BE IN 2026... The Victorian State Government led by Premier Daniel Andrews has announced that the 2026 Commonwealth Games to be held in Victoria has been cancelled. Initially estimated to cost $2.6B, the project cost has escalated to at least $6B-$7B with the Premier stating that he is unwilling to allocate such an exorbitant amount of money for a 12-day sporting event. The Premier subsequently announced that funding would be redirected towards housing and sporting infrastructure across the state.
