The session will give attendees great insight into what being a Councillor might look like, including time commitments, responsibilities and general requirements under the Local Government Act 2020, as we approach the 2024 Council elections. Attendees can expect to leave the session with a greater understanding of the role of a Councillor and hopefully an increased desire to consider running next year.
Local Government is a proud leader in gender equality. At the 2020 local government elections, Victoria set a new national record for female representation with women making up 43.8 percent of elected councillors, helping advance towards the goal of gender equality by 2025.
“Council is an inclusive and safe space, and Greater Shepparton Councillors represent the bold, multicultural community which our region is known for. Everyone is welcome to attend the Information Session, with women from the Greater Shepparton community encouraged to come along,” CEO, Peter Harriott said.
“Attendees will also hear from Bendigo City Council Mayor, Cr Andrea Metcalf, who will be sharing her journey to Council and her personal experience in the role as a Councillor.”
Residents interested in attending the Candidate Information Session are encouraged to RSVP before Friday 14 July via this link shepp.city/candidateinfo. Event details below.
