Businessman Bobby Haas is selling his neighborhood mansion for $27.5 million

One of Preston Hollow’s most prominent businessmen is selling his mansion on Jourdan Way.

Bobby Haas’ French Renaissance estate was built in 1999 on a private lake. The 18,691-square-foot home — which has seven bedrooms, 14 fireplaces and an elevator — now is listed for $27.5 million.

Lamplighter and Alcuin launch new facilities

The Lamplighter School launched its roughly 10,000-squarefoot Innovation Lab, designed by architect Marlon Blackwell, to encourage hands-on activities for students. A teaching kitchen, environmental science area, robotics lab and woodworking classroom are located inside the lab.

Alcuin School recently opened its new world languages and fine arts building. The multi-level facility features foreign language classrooms, art studios, music education spaces and a patio balcony.

It’s official: Houndstooth is coming to The Hill

Rumors that Houndstooth Coffee was opening at The Hill circulated for months, but the beloved coffee shop kept its lips sealed about the expansion.

Houndstooth finally confirmed that it will serve coffee there this fall. It will be located on property that belongs to TreeHouse, an eco-friendly home improvement store that opened in June.

The café won’t quite be the same as other Houndstooth locations. Powered by solar energy, it will be stationed inside tiny porch houses along 9730 N. Central Expressway.

neighborhood billionaire plays the game his own way Q & A
WAITING FOR CUBAN This
Interview by ELISSA CHUDWIN / Photo courtesy of ABC

UP FRONT

Mark Cuban just might be our busiest neighbor. Sure, countless CEOs, sports stars and a former president call Preston Hollow home. But Cuban juggles TV appearances, “Shark Tank,” the Dallas Mavericks, endless business ventures and sharply crafted tweets ripping President Donald Trump — not to mention that he’s married and raising three children. He’s still generous, too, and often assists local organizations in need. (He donated school supplies and Mavericks tickets to every Dallas ISD student earlier this fall.)

Since the only thing Cuban doesn’t have much of is time, he agreed to let us interview him but only via email. We felt like we were in good company. Even fellow neighbor and Texas Monthly hotshot Skip Hollandsworth couldn’t snag facetime with the elusive Cuban.

“He’d be happy to talk to me, as long as he did it by email,” Hollandsworth says. “I kept thinking at some point he’s going to come around. He’s going to be charmed by my questions. He’s going to say, ‘Just drive over. We’ll shoot baskets, and we’ll talk.’ Never. He stayed completely aloof. To this day, I have yet to speak to him.”

We wanted to know Cuban’s opinion on artificial intelligence (he often says the world’s first trillionaire will be an A.I. expert). We hinted at #MarkCuban2020 to see if his Oval Office aspirations had any foundation. We even asked him if he still rollerblades through his house, like he once told The New York Times. But, like any billionaire, Cuban does what he pleases. We reached out on three separate occasions, but he only responded to the questions that matter — to him.

Although Cuban never satisfied our curiosity about his political plans or rolling through his 24,000-square-foot Deloache Avenue mansion, he agreed to talk Preston Hollow, especially the properties he purchased in 2014 on Averill and Jourdan Way.

Cuban, at the very least, has time for the neighborhood.

What is your favorite neighborhood hangout spot? We like to eat at R+D, Flying Fish and work out at Speedflex, so we are around Preston Center a lot.

If you could change anything about Preston Hollow, what would it be? Why?

I obviously have an interest in what happens across Northwest Highway from Preston Center. The parking situation for the Starbucks part of the center and for the businesses facing Northwest Highway is horrible. It has to be fixed.

On top of that, the traffic on Northwest Highway in that corridor is going to get

progressively worse as the area grows and the street becomes an ever-important thoroughfare connecting east and west.

There have been a lot of plans and proposals driven by a few neighbors trying to protect their own interests, ignoring the needs of the community.

What are your plans for the properties you purchased in 2014 on Averill and Jourdan Way? Have they changed since then?

I’m in no rush to do anything with my property, but we need better planning. Forcing residential housing across from Preston Center is going to negatively impact the experience for everyone.

The highway can’t grow. Residential units against Northwest Highway will be a less-than-optimal experience, and the commercial and worship destinations on both sides will be limited in their ability to expand.

In 2014, there was some backlash from the neighbors about your plans for the property. Councilwoman Jennifer Gates even asked you to “maintain a neighborhood feel.” Has that lessened since then?

I love Preston Hollow, but our politicians are putting the interests of probably fewer than five people above all their constituents and the community.

Interview edited for clarity.

Helping in Harvey’s aftermath

When Hurricane Harvey flooded Houston and evacuees poured into Dallas, Preston Hollow Presbyterian teamed up with Temple Emanu-El, NorthPark Presbyterian, Saint Michael, All Angels Episcopal and other neighborhood organizations to help. More than 700 volunteers packaged 240,000 meals or created clean-up kits that were distributed to the coast.

This list is not for amateurs; they know their customers aren’t looking for Two Buck Chuck.

WHERE THE WINOS GO

DISH IS A DARLING OF WINE SPECTATOR

WINERIES across America are bustling with activity from August through November, as vineyards race to pull the grapes from the vine at the peak of ripeness for each varietal. Here in Preston Hollow, you can sample the fruits of that labor at many places, but DISH is one of only a precious few with a wine list that received the stamp of approval from Wine Spectator, making its list of “Where to Drink Well” earlier this year.

DISH’s list is robust, hitting all the classics from the buttery chardonnays and bright sauvignon blancs to the more tannic malbecs and merlots. This list is not for amateurs; they know their customers aren’t looking for Two Buck Chuck.

“These guests are very well traveled; they’re very well educated; they know what they want,” says Jerry McInerney, general manager of DISH. After a stint in Sonoma’s Wine Country, he should know. “Our guests know the winemakers. They’ve been to the wineries in Napa.”

The wine list, created by NL Restaurant Group sommelier Brandon Smoot, relies heavily on California brands that are recognizable to the average consumer.

“It’s a comfort thing,” McInerney says, explain-

ing that many customers want to see brands they know they like, so they’re confident they’ll enjoy the glass. If you want the most well-known brands like Schramsberg, J Vineyards or Duckhorn, you can find it for sure. But for the more discerning and adventurous, there’s the Captain’s List.

“We have some hidden gems in each varietal that some people might not be familiar with,” McInerney says of the 20-25 bottle list that is updated seasonally.

The same can be said of the regular wine menu, which has some favorite staples that are flushed with a fleet of rosés in the spring, and then replaced by heartier red blends in the fall.

“Some we have to keep,” McInerney says. “We have a woman who comes every week, because we have Rombauer chardonnay.”

If you’re looking to splurge, the floral notes of Kathryn Hall’s 2011 cabernet can’t be beat, albeit with a $255 price tag.

Don’t expect DISH staff to try and up-sell you, though; they have been directed to find out “what excites a person and build a recommendation from there.”

Pro tip: Go on Wednesdays when bottles of all wines sold by the glass are half off.

30 YEARS OF BBQ

CRAIG COLLINS GAVE HIS EATERIES NEW LIFE, EVEN WHEN NEARBY BUSINESSES SANK

CRAIG COLLINS is the only business owner who didn’t vacate The Hill, even when the shopping center was wrought with neglect.

The short tenure of high-profile businesses like Kroger didn’t deter the success of his two restaurants, Red Hot & Blue and Nazca Kitchen. The barbecue franchise and South American eatery became staples of the barren development at Walnut Hill Lane and U.S. 75.

“We have managed to weather the storm thus far,” Collins says.

After a 20-year decline, the shopping center is receiving an approximately $90-million makeover, complete with updated storefronts and amenities. Since the upgrades coincided with the barbecue joint’s 30th birthday,

Collins revamped the entire space.

“There’s not a single 2-by-4 left in that restaurant,” he says. “We gutted the entire thing. It’s completely different. There’s not a toilet seat that was there before.”

Now called RHBQ, the outdoor patio and bar features biweekly events like football watch parties and beer tastings. Collins hired a barbecue consultant to tweak its menu, and, because it’s Dallas, brunch offerings are on the horizon. Local musicians take the restaurant’s outdoor stage every Friday to perform, whether it’s blues or electronic tunes.

“I was in a band in my teens,” he says. “I wasn’t going to make it as a rock star. I have a soft spot for starving artists and giving people a

chance to get some exposure.”

Collins was a lawyer, not a restaurateur, when he introduced Red Hot & Blue to Texas. His former college roommate founded the concept in Washington D.C. Collins couldn’t get enough, so he brought it to Dallas.

“When we opened in 1994, it was the only place in the city you could get pulled pork.”

A spontaneous trip to South America spurred Nazca Kitchen’s creation, with a second location that recently opened in West Village.

Collins still practices law occasionally for charity work, but his priority is keeping his restaurants, especially RHBQ, relevant.

“We had the opportunity to update it and make it something for this generation.”

Craig Collins mastered serving crowdpleasing barbecue and South American cuisine over the years and continues to tweak his restaurant’s offerings.

DWAYNE SPENCER never imagined his job would include retrieving a goat stuck on a roof or chasing an escaped pig throughout The Lamplighter School.

“It was like forever trying to catch that pig,” he says.

The facilities manager was tasked with caring for Lamplighter’s farm animals 38 years ago. He thought apprehending the four-legged escape artist was as crazy as it gets, until he saved a goat who clambered up a tree onto the barn’s roof. Spencer bribed the animal with food to get him back to the ground.

“Funny things happen. Goofy things

happen,” says longtime teacher Kathey Beddow. “It’s a time to be joyous of nature and learning.”

Since Lamplighter opened in 1953, the barn — which was rebuilt in 2016 — is the center of many student lessons. Kindergarteners learn about the voting process by casting their ballots to name the school’s chickens, pigs, calves and goats. Fourth-graders not only collect eggs to sell in the carpool line but also create business plans and marketing materials.

The yearlong project teaches the young entrepreneurs responsibility and teamwork.

“We have to make sure we’re not doing things haphazardly,” Beddow says.

JEFF KITNER: Trailblazer

THE NEIGHBOR TAKING STEPS TO CONNECT DALLAS’ PATHS

OUR CITY may never be as pedestrian friendly as Chicago or New York, but that hasn’t stopped Jeff Kitner from encouraging Dallasites to get out of their cars and onto the trails. The neighborhood native was recently appointed to Dallas’ Park and Recreation Board. He’s also president of the Friends of Northaven Trail, a volunteer organization that supports the trail through events and beautification. Lately the trail has expanded, with plans for a pedestrian bridge to navigate across Central Expressway and into the White Rock Lake system, thanks in part to the dedicated work of the Friends.

Why is the Northaven Trail so important to you?

I like to be outdoors. I like to be on my bike when there’s time, and it’s not raining. It’s health. It’s connecting with your community. It’s more fun.

What upgrades to the trail are you looking forward to the most?

I’m excited that eventually you will be able to get on Northaven Trail and get to almost anywhere in the city. You can get to a park, get to a rec center, get to a restaurant. It’s an exciting time for trails and transportation connectivity in the city.

If you were in charge of Preston Hollow, what’s the first thing you would do?

I’d ask all the drivers to slow down, especially where you’re supposed to be sharing space with bicyclists. I’d have more bikes, more pedestrian-friendly areas, locate a site for a dog park and add a Tacodeli and Freebirds to the neighborhood.

What are a few things that surprise people about you? I have a Corgi, who we rescued from a shelter. I’ve always been fascinated by geography, directions, maps. I feel like in a challenge, I could identify zip codes and streets up there with anybody. I love to travel.

WHY RECYCLING MATTERS

COLIN ALLRED

What he’s up to now:

After working for the Obama administration in the Department of Housing and Urban Development, this former NFL player is diving into politics himself. The Tennessee Titanturned-civil rights attorney is campaigning for Texas’ 32nd congressional district. Allred is one of five Democratic candidates looking to challenge incumbent Pete Sessions in the 2018 midterm election.

Three things to know:

1

Allred was a backup linebacker and special teams player in the NFL for four seasons. He misses his teammates’ nonstop jokes, but being a professional athlete wasn’t all that glamourous. “Especially if you are walking next to the quarterback, you realize quickly people are more interested in him than you,” he says.

2 The self-proclaimed nerd launched a computer repair business at Baylor. “For me, doing computer stuff was a good way to calm down after a busy day at football,” he says.

Allred’s love of superheroes, especially Spiderman, never faded. He still sees Marvel and DC movies the night that they premiere and is a religious reader of comic books.

HELPING WITH HEART

As parents, Preston Hollow’s Lilly Neubauer and East Dallas’ Tiana Svendsen are dedicated to helping refugees, so much so that they established the artist collective Bold Strokes to support displaced families. Its first event, a silent art auction at Northaven United Methodist Church in September, raised $7,500 for Heart House. The Vickery Meadow organization provides academic and social-emotional programs to children who fled their home country.

“When I think about mothers and children getting through crisis, I both know and can’t fathom their pain,” Neubauer says. “No matter what side of the fence — religiously, politically — you’re on, I just think there’s no such thing as somebody else’s children. That’s what got us fired up again.”

MODIT ABOUT

Four years of coveting led to this couple’s mid-century modern fantasy home

advocatemag.com 21

Dayna and Alex Mendonsa are living in the past, albeit a highly stylized, individually curated past of their own design. They’re new to Preston Hollow, having moved in February, but they’ve spent years fantasizing about the Asian-inspired mid-century modern abode on Royal Lane.

“Alex fell in love with [the house] the moment he saw it,” Dayna says. “That was four years ago.”

They moved to Dallas after a stint in Vegas where he ran nightclubs for the likes of Caesars Palace and The House of Blues, and she worked as an esthetician and pin-up model. Today he’s one of the forces behind Gas Monkey while she is full-time mama

to sons Brixton, 8, and Gunnar, 6. But as soon as they arrived in the city, they started collecting pieces for their mid-century dream home, without ever owning it.

They look for quality, not kitsch. Their collection includes a teal Joy Bird couch and original Eames chair; a Selig dining room table they had lovingly restored; and plenty of Sputnik lights and starburst clocks. With a moneymaking booth inside Top Drawer Antiques, they have a professional reason to fuel their collecting frenzy.

“He has a serious problem,” Dayna laughs. “Some people have drinking problems, some people have porn addictions — my husband buys stuff.”

22 advocatemag.com

Sometimes that stuff makes its way into the Mendonsas’ house, where it hangs around until something else the couple can’t live without comes along to replace it.

“There’s a constant search for just the right item,” Alex says.

Except for those items from which they will never part. Like the apple green Adrian Pearsall couch that sits on a wooden plank complete with a built-in planter full of succulents. Or Dayna’s signed David Bowie book.

“I have his DNA in this book — he touched it,” she beams.

Kismet clearly follows this couple because the day they decided to leave their Lakewood home, they went on-

line and there it was: The circa 1960 house they had long-coveted was listed for sale.

It’s been under construction since before they even moved in, after a leak destroyed most of the floors, which they replaced with a sleek white epoxy. Shag carpeting and mahogany wood paneling from Design District store Toshmahal added an authentic feel to the living room.

The Mendonsas are still working on the kitchen, bathrooms and even an enclosed Tiki bar, although their house is already filling up with vintage surf boards, tribal carvings and totems.

“We just got the puffer-fish lights,” Alex says.

The Mendonsas home will be featured on the Modern-Mile Home Tour along with a selection of other unique properties.

STORIES OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD

NorthPark Center exposes the masses to fine art

advocatemag.com 25

The art aficionados wait at the base of Mark di Suvero’s towering “Ad Astra,” the fiery red two-story hallmark of NorthPark Center’s NorthCourt, situated midway between Macy’s and Nordstrom. As Nancy Nasher walks over, they share wide-eyed glances and release audible gasps as they realize the owner of NorthPark is about to lead them on a tour of her family’s collection of sculptures and art, which adorn the shopping center’s walkways.

A few minutes later, they stand in front of a large, amoebic-looking fiberglass piece by Tony Cragg, a striking but temporary replacement for a wooden sculpture by Joel Shapiro that has been damaged by overzealous shoppers, not just once but twice. NorthPark added a barrier of landscaped cactus after the first injury to Shapiro’s sculpture, but not even that dissuaded the curious.

There’s “great risk” in placing millions of dollars worth of fine art in a shopping mall, Nasher acknowledges. But both she and the artists whose work are exhibited in its aisles are more than willing to take that risk. Shapiro, 76, is making repairs to his piece so that it can be showcased once again, right outside the Apple store at the foot of the Nordstrom escalator.

Shapiro’s reasoning, Nasher tells her tour goers, is: “Where am I ever going to have 26 million people a year see my work?”

Her audience has come to NorthPark for the opening reception of the 2017 Dallas Art Fair. The fact that this is the festival’s only event at a retail venue underscores the uniqueness of the shopping mall. Nasher calls it a “shopping museum,” telling the art fair attendees that among NorthPark’s impressive stats — more than 230 stores and restaurants that do more than $1.2 billion in sales annually, making it the fifth-highest grossing shopping center in the United States — it is also “the only shopping center in the United States, if not the world, to have worldclass pieces of art by world-class artists.”

It’s an aesthetic legacy Nasher inherited from her late parents, Raymond and Patsy, the developers of NorthPark Center. When it opened in 1965, her parents didn’t have much of a collection. Because of NorthPark’s success, Nasher says, they bought their first sculpture in 1967 — “Torso with Buds,” a bronze piece by Jean Arp. As they amassed their collection in the ’70s and ’80s, “they brought more and more pieces to NorthPark — the pieces that couldn’t fit at home,” Nasher says.

Barry Flanagan’s “Large Leaping Hare” and Roy Lichtenstein’s “Double Glass,” which now reside near H&M and Hanna Andersson, originally adorned the Nasher home. The Henry Moore piece “Reclining Figure: Angles,” currently sitting outside of Banana Republic, “was in front of our home my whole life,” Nasher says. Her parents, she says, “were very good friends with Henry Moore and acquired many pieces from him over time … so NorthPark gave them an opportunity.”

Their collection of postwar and contemporary sculpture, with some prints and paintings, was, in the beginning, a matter of approachability. Sculptures were more

DISCOVER NORTHPARK’S COLLECTION FOR YOURSELF. HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL FIND THIS MONTH:

Walk with intention

TUESDAY, OCT. 24, 6:30-7:30 P.M.

Guided tours of NorthPark’s artwork take place monthly, thanks to a partnership with the Dallas Art Fair. Meet at Greenhouse Market on level two behind the AMC ticket booth, and a local art expert will lead you in viewing and discussing the collection. This month’s tour guide is Lucia Simek, the Nasher Scupture Center’s manager of communications and international programs.

Take the kids

ARTROCKS! SATURDAY, OCT. 21, 1-4 P.M.

The goal of ArtROCKS! is to foster children’s understanding of the arts through hands-on projects inspired by some of the world’s most famous artists. This month’s focus is Roy

Lichtenstein, an American artist whose comic book-inspired work helped define the pop art movement of the 1960s. His painted bronze piece “Double Glass” sits outside of H&M. Step into the gallery

NorthPark has converted the hallway between Burberry and Louis Vuitton into gallery space for rotating exhibits.

THROUGH OCT. 12: “ART FOR ADVOCACY” PRESENTED BY DALLAS

CHILDREN’S ADVOCACY CENTER

These 24 works highlight the unique role that art therapy plays in bringing healing to the child abuse victims that DCAC serves. Works are all donated by Dallas’ top galleries, such as Barry Whistler Gallery, Goss Michael Foundation and Talley Dunn Gallery.

OCT. 16–NOV. 20: “BAZAAR ART: THE WOMEN” PRESENTED BY HARPER’S BAZAAR

The list of artists who’ve collaborated with Bazaar is a who’s who of 20th century masters, from Alfred Steiglitz’s haunting portrait of Georgia O’Keefe’s hands (August 1947), to Andy Warhol’s early fashion illustrations (September 1951), to Cindy Sherman’s March 2016 portfolio of street style-inspired self-portraits.

Examine local history

OCT. 16–30: “FORTY YEARS FORWARD: A RETROSPECTIVE OF DALLAS BLACK DANCE THEATRE”

Photographs of Patti Labelle and Harry Belafonte, a letter from President Barack Obama, and costumes with original conception drawings are among the historical memorabilia on display between Macy’s and Dillard’s. The exhibit was curated from the Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s archives, spanning the four decades it has enriched the City of Dallas’ cultural fabric.

It is also “the only shopping center in the United States, if not the world, to have world-class pieces of art by world-class artists.”

through in terms of what you see in the mall,” Nancy Nasher explains — the art, of course, but also the museum quality benches, the custom designed planters, and the precisely 12-foot-high brick “frames” around each storefront, with each retailer inset “like a painting,” she says.

“The architecture is very quiet but strong, and it lets the stores shine,” Nasher says. “Very few shopping centers pay as much attention to the design of the stores as we do.”

Nasher says her parents believed, “if you put in beautiful landscaping, if you put art in the shopping center, as people go to a movie or a restaurant or go to buy a pair of jeans, that by osmosis, either they will see it, or they won’t see it, they’ll like it, or they won’t like it, but over time, little by little, they’ll begin to look at it and look at art differently and feel comfortable with art.”

The family also has a namesake museum, the Nasher Sculpture Center in the Dallas Arts District, which opened in 2003 and houses much of Raymond and Patsy Nasher’s collection. Though hundreds of thousands of people tour the modern and contemporary pieces annually, that’s still only a fraction of NorthPark’s visitors.

The shopping center that begat the art collection that nourishes the shopping center is a continual symbiotic relationship. Today, Nancy Nasher describes NorthPark not only as a “shopping museum” but also as a “cultural center.” One of its valuable retail spaces acts as a public library, drawing more than 200,000 children each year to read books and engage in programming. The entire Dallas Symphony Orchestra has performed free concerts in NorthPark’s center garden; the Dallas Opera sends ensembles to sing near “Ad Astra,” their voices floating to the food court diners above.

Shopping malls across the country, many of them similarly birthed in the ’60s, are dropping like flies. Brick-and-mortar retailers are feeling the heat in the current era of online shopping. These days, customers who make the effort to physically visit a store are looking for an “experience.”

Fortuitously, experience is exactly what Ray Nasher had in mind when he designed NorthPark. His and his daughter’s careful curation over the last five decades poised the mall to be the future of shopping while its peers simultaneously find themselves mired in the past. The kiosks in most malls, manned by overeager salespeople chasing after shoppers with flying drone toys or magic hair straighteners, don’t have to be hurriedly avoided in NorthPark. The Nasher family has banned carts and kiosks, and replaced them with sculptures, inviting shoppers to stop and reflect rather than run and hide.

Perhaps it’s not surprising, then, that NorthPark Centeris one of the top tourist attractions in Dallas. People are 35 times more likely to view fine art while strolling past the Gap as they are to visit another of the city’s art museums. It’s a badge of honor for the mall, and Nasher, like her father before her, believes it comes with a modicum of responsibility.

“My father would say, ‘Maybe 90 percent of people will never go to a museum but maybe they’ll be inspired to learn more about art and study art, just by coming here.’ ”

TOUR NORTHPARK CENTER’S SCULPTURE COLLECTION WITH NANCY NASHER

In her own words, Nancy Nasher describes the stories behind some of the pieces that she and her parents have collected over the years. Read more and listen to audio excerpts from the Dallas Art Fair tour at NorthPark Center at prestonhollow.advocatemag.com.

KAWS (Bryan Donnelly), “CLEAN SLATE” (p. 27)

“I was walking through the Fort Worth Modern Museum with my daughter, and she loved the Bryan Donnelly painting. … And so in the [children’s] court we have a new piece of his character with two twins, and I had twins, so I related to that.”

Mark di Suvero, “Ad Astra” (p. 24)

“He was in this space before the expansion and he placed, by hand, every bolt and erected this sculpture. This affords us the ability for people to walk through it and around it and to see it from every level from the second you enter any entrance.”

Iván Navarro, “This Land Is Your Land” (p. 26)

“This is the word ‘me,’ but in the mirrors, it reverses to ‘we,’ so it’s ‘mewe-me-we,’ the individual and the collective. And also water towers gave immigrants work when they first came to the United States.”

Andy Warhol, “Ads” (above)

“My mother was a good friend of Warhol’s. We all had our portraits done by him. I think they look great here.”

Jonathan Borofsky, “Hammering Man” (p. 26)

“Jonathan Borofsky placed these in exactly these spots. Everyone relates to those pieces — it’s universal. It’s the working man, the working woman, the importance of work.”

Summer has said adieu so it’s time to break out the foliage and celebrate fall with a few easy design touches:

• Extend a warm welcome — the fall holidays bring guests. Make the entry way inviting — a leafy wreath is a good start.

• Layer up — Keep it cozy by layering rooms with pillows and blankets.

• Floral finds — A vase with flowers will liven up any room. Chinese lanterns and fall branches are perfect for the season.

• Warm tones — Autumn is much more than just orange.

• Fire it up. Nothing says fall like a roaring fire.

• Grab a pumpkin-spice beverage and enjoy.

From ocean to table

Our quest for cover art took us to Lovers Seafood and Market, where marine life is even celebrated in the decor. Celebrity restaurateurs Lynae Fearing and Tracy Rathbun launched the quaint restaurant in early 2017 to give patrons a taste of seafood across the globe. Suggest your favorite Preston Hollow spot for our next cover.

Is there an iconic Preston Hollow place that you want to see on the cover? Email Elissa Chudwin at echudwin@advocatemag.com with your ideas.
