Another Take On Tithing
Your article on tithing in the recent Advocate was of interest to me (“Opening Remarks”, January Advocate). The question has been amply answered in the Bible in Malachi 3:912, II Corinthians 9:6-15, and etc. The basic question is not gross or net income. What is really being asked is “How little can I give without making God mad at me?” We should also ask the question, “What formula do I want God to use in answering prayers, granting protection, blessings, etc. Do I want him to deduct for mistakes, failure, blunders, disobedience, etc.?” The tithe is only the floor. “He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,” reads II Cor. 9:6. For 63 years, we have practiced this. We were examined by the IRS five straight years. They finally flagged our account as “exceptional charity giving”. Ha! We have been abundantly blessed, but that is not the goal. I am not interested in what will put a smile on my face. When I stand before GodI want to see a smile on his face, and to hear Him say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

YIPEE!
AnHEB could make my head explode (“HEB to Dallas: Sooner rather than later?” Advocate Back Talk Blog). We live very close to that area, currently shop at Kroger for meats and proteins; Central Market for produce and wine; Super Target for pantry, sodas, and everything else; and occasionally end up at the Tom Thumb when we need a single ingredient for something since it’s the closest.

As a transplant from San Antonio, the one weekly thing I have missed is my visit to the HEB produce area.
