After securing private donations and building permits, the Museum of Biblical Art, located just west of NorthPark Center at 7500 Park Lane, recently broke ground on the Via Dolorosa sculpture garden. The garden will adorn the front of the museum, featuring life-size bronze sculptures, by renowned artist Gib Singleton, that represent the 14 Stations of the Cross.
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit open at Timber Creek shopping center
Though it cannot be expected to possess the character and charm of the original location at Henderson and 75, opened in 1941 by Roland Dickey, great effort has been made to make the new Dickey’s — at Skillman and Northwest Highway, inside the Timber Creek shopping center look vintage, notes Advocate contributor Carol Toler in an Advocate online (advocatemag.com) article. “Corrugated tin and distressed wood deck the walls, red and white tiles line the floor, and vintage photos recall Dickey’s history. With crepe myrtles at the front door, Johnny Cash playing in the background and crunchy fried okra ready in less than two minutes,
In a statement released by their new publicist, Lyle Burgin and Richard Kopf have suspended their efforts to build a restaurant on White Rock Lake’s Boy Scout Hill. “We both firmly believe that the concept would be an excellent amenity for all of the citizens of Dallas, but the present time is not the right time. We thank all of the individuals and groups that have voiced their support. And we will see you at the lake,” they said. The announcement came on the heels of a public meeting attended by some 500, most of them vociferously opposed to the proposed venue.
Pilates-and-more studio opening in Park Lane center
Studio 6, a pilates/ballet barre/yoga studio, will open a studio in the Shops at Park Lane sometime “mid-summer … on the plaza level where Whole Foods is,” according to Michelle Davis, marketing director for the Park Lane complex. The new Studio 6 will be the second location for the concept, founded two years ago by Elizabeth Lindberg in Preston Hollow. Originally named PilatesBarre, it re-launched as Studio 6 last summer, adding yoga and ballet barre classes to its pilates-based repertoire. Relatedly, original plans for The Shops at Park Lane included space for a 90,000-square-foot fitness center. Since then, developers reportedly have revamped the existing vacant fitness center and plan to lease it as office space once current expansion efforts are complete.

UP, DOWN, AND GONE.

The crime just seemed like a real annoyance. Jeff Marek’s 2008 Toyota pickup was parked in the driveway that night just like any other.
Sometime that night, a thief approached the vehicle, lifted the handle on the tailgate, and detached it — a crime that literally takes only seconds, but can bring on hours of hassle for the owner. Newer trucks often include backup cameras that add to the replacement costs.
The Victim: Jeff Marek
The Crime: Auto accessory theft
Date: Thursday, April 10
Time: Between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Location: 10500 block of Chesterton
Marek says an exact replacement from the dealership would cost around $3,200, and a used tailgate would run at least $1,100 — so no option is cheap. Marek is trying not to get too down about the situation, and trying to move on.
“I wish they’d have broken into my house that night when I was at home; it would have been a different outcome,” he says with a laugh.
Dallas Police Sgt. Keitric Jones of the Northeast Patrol Division says tailgate locks are a good option to make this kind of crime more difficult for thieves. He also recommends keeping the vehicle where others can see it easily when you’re away from home.
“Park your vehicle in a high-traffic area so that if a thief attempts to take your property, someone may see the offense and report the theft.”
