n 100 WOMEN OF LAKE HIGHLANDS n VICKERY MEADOW PRINCIPAL

DONATED BIG TO WILDCAT BAND: The neighborhood charity, founded in 2016, asks each member to write a $100 check to a charity their members vote on, and their choice this quarter was the Lake Highlands Area Band Club. Despite their name, 100 Women of Lake Highlands is 311 members strong, so they presented $31,100.

WINS NATIONAL AWARD: Dallas ISD n NETWORK AIDED 100 RISD STUDENTS WHO LOST ALL IN NEIGHBORHOOD: The recent tornado hit Preston Hollow and Lake Highlands, then turned northeast toward Richardson, where it devastated homes, businesses and schools. More than 100 RISD students and their families walked out of their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs. They lost everything, including clothing, food, medication and school supplies. RISD is working with Network of Community Ministries to provide a full range of services, including a mobile food pantry and trauma counseling. They also need volunteers. Principal Sandra Barrios is being honored as one of the nation’s best school leaders. Barrios serves at Jack Lowe Sr. Elementary and was among 10 principals selected from across the country to receive the Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership from U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.
