Barbara Bush Wedding
Former president and Preston Hollow neighbor
George W. Bush’s daughter Barbara got married. Bush walked his daughter, who attended Hockaday, down the aisle at the family’s Walker Point home in Maine. The bride’s grandfather, former President George H.W. Bush, also attended. “Barbara is named for a unique and strong woman — and rightly so, because she is unique and strong,” CBS quoted Bush speaking of his late mother, former First Lady Barbara Bush, who died in April. Barbara Bush, 36, is the co-founder of the public health nonprofit, Global Health Corps. The groom, Craig Coyne, 37, is the screenwriter behind the 2005 film “Jarhead,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
Mail For The Mailman
Neighbors gushed about our story on postman Johnny Brown, the “tender-loving carrier.” He is beloved for his extra attention, including checking on elderly residents when he hasn’t seen them for two to three days. Among the comments:
Angela Kapelski McKee: “Thanks, Johnny. I wish you were my mailman! Also, you look good in shorts.”
Gabe Hirsch Sorrells: “Best mail carrier ever and a great friend.”
Ron Smith: “He’s not very good looking, but I think he does a very good job delivering the mail. Keep your shorts pulled up.”

Bacon, Please
Slater’s 50/50, a West Coast chain, is opening at Preston and Forest. The burger joint’s claim to fame is its halfbeef, half-bacon patty and creative toppings like grilled pineapple and Fritos. Options include the enchilada burger and the p.b. & jellousy, with thick-cut bacon, peanut butter and strawberry jelly on a honey wheat bun.
A few weeks after Snooze, an A.M. Eatery and Civil Pour started serving customers at The Hill, four more restaurants announced they would join the shopping center’s lineup. The mixed-use development at Walnut Hill Lane and Central Expressway has undergone a $90-million makeover. Dallas-based owner Capref Manager LLC incorporated green space, revamped each storefront facade and added about 19 tenants. Here are the four new restaurants slated to open in 2019:
Empire Baking Co., a Dallas-based artisan bakery; Pokeworks, which serves Hawaiianstyle poke; Sauce Pizza and Wine, a pizzeria that also serves pasta, salads, wine and beer; Sushi de Handroll, a fast-casual joint that serves sushi and tempura.
