Since 1951, Dallas’ horticulture mecca North Haven Gardens has put the city on the map, designing lavish landscapes both big and small. Most notable is the famed DeGolyer Estate, where North Haven Gardens’ founder Ralph Pinkus worked to help establish the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden back in the day.

Sure, North Haven Gardens is widely known for incredible plant selection, plant education, workshops and garden coaching for newbies. But neighbors talk up North Haven Garden’s gift shop, a quiet mother-lode of finds for that special person all year long. With the holidays – or just a regular Tuesday – approaching, General Manager Cody Hoya says North Haven Garden’s gift shop items are anything but ho-ho-hum.

Hoya says North Haven Gardens’ third annual Holiday Art and Gift Market Saturday, Dec. 1, is a primo opportunity to score especially unique items. Nearly 40 local artisans will be onsite offering handmade items such as original ceramics, textiles, paper goods, wall art and quilts, for starters. The event, slated from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., features live music and samples from the Gardens’ Café.

SOY CANDLES

USA-made Flaire soy candles featuring garden-inspired fragrances bring the outdoors inside. Choose from rosemary mint, orange clove, fresh fig, citrus coriander, cactus & sea salt, or bamboo.

GARDEN AMULETS:

These traditional items include sacred wood beads, gem stones and found objects. Handcrafted by local artist Beverly Ann Moore, each one-of-a-kind treasure is inspired by nature.

A variety of handmade cards from local artists are available. Some are inspired by the Japanese tradition of wabi-sabi, the art of appreciating detail in found objects and honoring the beauty in every day. Other selections, also USA made, celebrate traditions and modern living.

CACHEPOTS:

Hoya says the French-inspired cachepots are a shopper favorite. A festive way to hide a plant’s inner growing pot, North Haven Gardens’ visitors can choose from a variety of these decorative containers, or shop pre-made arrangements.

These decorative tiles by local artist Linda Kingsley depict an assortment of botanical and abstract motifs. Hand-painted and whimsical, waterproof coasters add a splash to a poolside or patio table.
