Antigonish
Pjila’si. Weltasualuleg. Fáilte. Bienvenue. Welcome… to the beautiful Northumberland Shore of Nova Scotia. This region is the ancestral home of the Mi’kma’ki First Nations people, the traditional knowledge keepers, and is also rich in the history and traditions of Gaelic, Acadian and African Nova Scotians. Evidence of the love of all of these traditions beats strongly in the hearts of all who call this area home, and is sure to capture the love and attention of all who take in its beauty.
Visitors cannot help but be in awe of the beauty and character of the region. Dramatic cliffs and headlands punctuate hundreds of miles of pristine coastlines and the crystal-clear blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. A leisurely stroll along the seashore collecting sea glass and sand dollars will still the soul and awaken the senses to promises whispered on the gentle breezes.
A virtual vista of greens and browns and yellows of our forests, marshes,
and fields – originally home to indigenous people thousands of years ago – are breathtaking to behold. Combined with the riotous colour of flora and fauna that populate this area, visitors are sure to return here season after season to drink in the colour and charm that Mother Nature displays in Antigonish.
No matter where you travel in the areas of the Northumberland Shore, visitors are afforded an opportunity to experience the arts and culture that resonate in the hearts and homes of our people and revel in natural beauty – whether it is the pounding waves of the coastline that beat like the ancient drums of our First Nations people, or the soothing sounds of water gently moving in our rivers and lakes, or the stirring music heard from Mother Nature and local musicians.
Antigonish on Nova Scotia’s Northumberland Shore will call you back again, and again, and again.
