he recent upgrade of Christine Avenue and Robina Town Centre Drive is already paying dividends with locals saying the new dedicated turns have boosted safety for all.

Nearby, work will soon commence on the signalisation of the intersection at Laver Drive and Robina Town Centre Drive (The Rocket), which carries over 28,000 vehicles per day.

That project includes new signalised pedestrian crossings to support the hundreds who make their way between work, the hospitals and school every day. And funding has been secured to design a new signalised crossing at Scottsdale Drive and Robina Town Centre Drive to manage traffic and improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Tackling congestion must include making active travel a realistic option for locals – and that means making shared paths safe and complete. Over 1 kilometre of new footpaths will be constructed before the end of the financial year around the Robina Town Centre filling in missing links and addressing accessibility issues. The “Thorngate Drive” footpath project, one of the largest, completes the Active Towns project by connecting Robina Woods to Robina Town Centre. And a new footpath from Cheltenham Drive to ‘the Promenade’ will improve accessibility to Lake Lido. One of three new signalised pedestrian crossings have already been completed, with two more set for construction over Cheltenham Drive and Laver Drive.
