There’s no time to rest on It was not many years ago when Sundays were set aside for going to church and very little else. But as Bob Dylan said way back in 1964, “The times, they are a-changing”. In this era of modern communications, you have more processing power in your tiny hand-held phone than the super computers that guided the Apollo missions to the moon and beat world champion chess player Garry Kasparov in 1997. And customers no longer need to wait for Monday morning for the office to open. You can call helplines 24-7, text, email, tweet, post on Facebook or on Internet forums, and PM (private message) on a variety of different devices to almost anybody, anywhere, anytime. Business owners have had to adapt to this rapidly changing environment. Customers want service NOW. And so too has the real estate market changed. Social media, electronic database marketing, customer relationship management software have all been added to the real estate agent’s tool box.
Things have changed, including social norms. Where once Saturdays were the big days to hold property auctions, Sundays have now taken its place on the Gold Coast. Don’t just take my word for it. Apollo Auctions’ Justin Nickerson, a four-time winner of the REIQ Auctioneer of Year award, has been tracking the statistics. In the past 12 months the clearance rates for auctions held on the Gold Coast on Saturdays was 36.8 per cent and on Sundays it was 51.4 per cent. That is an enormous difference. Attendance figures are also higher on Sunday. At a Saturday auction on the Gold Coast the average was 26 people, while on Sunday it was sitting at 34 people. This also makes sense. On Sundays, people spend less time working, less time at junior sport and there are more visitors in the city on day trips. So, if you are planning on selling your house via auction, I would recommend you pencil in a Sunday.

PLANNING YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS Spend 20 mins today, planning for your tomorrow. Do you seem to always start your day with little bit of chaos and a lack of direction around what to do? Maybe you’ve got a general idea of the day’s game plan, but if you haven’t taken the time to write it down in advance, odds are, you’ll be less likely to achieve your goals, and spend most of your morning trying. To remember the things you thought of the day before. Disciplined people make daily planning a habit because they know this keystone habit can trigger a multitude of benefits. For starters, planning ahead for tomorrow reduces stress—it’s a proactive approach for controlling your schedule versus allowing it to control you. It also gives you a chance to build daily structure. You can prioritize your activities to align with and support your Vital Factors, or those key measures of your business’s health. Finally, just writing down the plan matters. Research shows that when you get it down in black and white, the odds of completing those to-dos goes up. Here’s how to make planning for tomorrow a success—today: Schedule your planning. Block out 20 minutes every afternoon to do this exercise. Particularly if you think you’ll struggle with remembering to do it, put it down in your calendar and set a reminder to do this at 4:40 p.m. every day. Others options would be to do it right before you go to bed at night. Keep sticky notes and a pen right next to your bed as a visual reminder to make your list before you turn off the light. Or keep a running list all day and then finalise that list before you relax for the evening What I find is that when I do this, it’s easier for me to relax and fall asleep.
Next morning, when I wake up, I can immediately see what the day’s priorities are. The key is to remember to grab that schedule planner and take it with you. Easiest way to do this is use the to do list planner on your phone or download a few different types till your happy with the layout style and notification settings. Now so what do we focus on? What’s really important and meaningful that will be of benefit to you. Focus on what’s vital. Don’t create a long laundry list of items. Focus on a shorter hit list say five to seven items. Of those, identify the top three that will deliver the greatest impact. If everything seems equally important, single out what most closely aligns with your vital goals, circling the ones that are the most time-sensitive. These should be your top three priorities for the day, or where your focus should be. Another tip is to ask yourself, “What can I delegate?” Is there anything on that list that could be assigned to someone else first thing in the morning? If so, do it!

Identify time-wasters, everything from too much hanging around the water-cooler to reading emails every couple of minutes that they come in. Something as simple as turning off your email notifications so the visual or audible cues aren’t pulling you away from a priority project can help.
