Principal’s Message
G
uardian Angels Catholic Primary School provides a positive, vibrant and inspiring environment where students are valued and encouraged to succeed in becoming life-long learners. There are many choices and opportunities given to the students from academic, cultural, social, physical and spiritual. We feel privileged to support and nurture each child in our care, working alongside parents to watch each individual progress and grow. We are looking forward to sharing and celebrating many memorable moments in 2021. We value parent partnerships as we build a connected community. The Guardian Angels’ Business Directory is a great initiative launched in 2020 to allow our families access to key information to support the school year and a range of businesses within the school community. The businesses advertising in the directory are either families in the school or have a strong connection to Guardian Angels. Our hope is that all families are able to confidently use these businesses in the knowledge that they will be looked after. Thanks to all the families and businesses who have advertised in our very own publication. Assistant Principal’s Message
A
t Guardian Angels, families, school and parish work together as partners in the spiritual formation and education of our children. From the very beginnings, Guardian Angels has been steeped in a rich Catholic tradition that stems from the close connection we have with our Church community. Father Gerard McMorrow is the Parish Priest and together with Father Stephen Camiolo they have a strong and positive interest in our school community. Our students are encouraged to actively participate in the Parish through liturgies, class and family masses, Altar Serving and through the Parish-based Sacramental Program. Sacramental preparation, through the Parish Based Sacramental Program, is for students wishing to celebrate Baptism, Confirmation, First Eucharist and Reconciliation. Theme Our theme for this year is Destination GA? Walk this Way. When considering a theme that
might underpin 2021 for us as a school community, thoughts of what it means to be truly part of Guardian Angels Catholic Primary School, Ashmore were front and centre. We have key language and processes that help us travel the learning journey together.
Our GA Learning Powers are key learning and play dispositions that we want to develop within all students. When we get stuck with our
learning or have made progress, we know that our Learning Powers of resilience, persistence, independence, collaboration and creativity help us. We want all learners at GA to be capable and confident using these 21st century skills.

Our Qualities of Angels are an integral part of the learning at Guardian Angels. These were developed through a process of examining the Mercy values to facilitate concrete expressions of the school’s faith traditions and how this can be lived by the school community.

Assistant Principal’s Message Stay Connected at GA
C
ommunication between school and home is certainly an important factor in the day to day functioning of schools and homes. Knowing what is happening when and why helps households plan the week for uniforms or sporting days for example and teachers appreciate being advised of anything that may affect their students’ ability to learn. Our school is like a small town and there are always lots of things happening each week so your teacher will send a weekly email to their class parents giving an overview of the week ahead and reminders if required. Guardian Angels provides a newsletter each Tuesday which is emailed out to the number one contact on our system. This email really helps with keeping up to date with school events and general information from around the school. Guardian Angels has official Facebook and Instagram. Attendance
School attendance is a baseline factor in determining student success. The attendance rate is important because students are more likely to succeed in academics when they attend school consistently. It’s difficult for the teacher and the class to build their skills and progress if a large number of students are frequently absent. In addition, students
who are not at school on a regular basis may fall behind academically. Explicit Teaching
A
t Guardian Angels we believe that explicit teaching guides students through the learning process. We give clear statements about the purpose and the rationale for learning as well as clear expectations about what students need to know and do. All classrooms use Learning Intentions (We are learning to...) and Success Criteria (What I’m looking for...) as tools to encourage students to be more actively involved in their learning. These are used to explicitly highlight to the students what
they are being asked to do and what we hope they will learn in order to help them to make better decisions about how to tackle the set task. QUESTIONS PARENTS / CARERS CAN ASK TO DISCOVER ABOUT THEIR CHILD’S LEARNING: What are you learning? • How are you going? How are you Growing? • How can you improve? W
e want students to make progress in their learning every day as successful, creative and confident, active and informed learners empowered to enrich and shape our world. At Guardian Angels we follow the Australian Curriculum and the Brisbane Education Religious Education Curriculum. GA also offers an amazing Arts Program incorporating performing arts, visual art and music featuring our outstanding band program. GA enjoys an annual Book Week and Science Week celebration, Academic Competitions such as the Bebras Challenge Computational Thinking Challenge, Mick Beard Public Speaking Competition, Japanese competitions, eisteddfods, concerts and lots of opportunities to shine and show excitement about learning. Semester or yearly overviews of curriculum programs for classrooms and specialist lessons can be found on the Parent Portal under the Curriculum tab. Curriculum
Corner in our weekly Guardian newsletter has updated information each week. GA offers a huge variety of opportunities for children to showcase their skills and talents, specifically via the Angels Challenges Program, GA’s alternative to homework. Tuckshop & Process
The Tuckshop is a service provided by the school for the benefit of the school community. Only Flexischools ONLINE orders are accepted, children cannot order using a bag and cash. Orders will not be accepted after 8.40am. The school employs a Canteen Manager Mrs Rachel Nowlan, but your help is always requested to allow us to maintain a daily canteen service. Our menu has been developed with the Queensland Government Healthy Choices Strategy as our guide.

Uniform / Swim School The Uniform Shop
is a service provided by the school for the benefit of the school community. It stocks the entire school uniform, with the exception of school shoes. It is run by the school, with the profits from the sale of uniforms going to assist the running of the school.

Guardian Angels Swim School offers Learn to Swim classes and squad programs for all ages and levels every day before and after school.
