Highlights SALVADOR Salvador, capital of the state of Bahia, was the first major port and the capital of colonial Brazil. The city lies between green tropical hills and broad beaches along the bay of Todos os Santos. Many of the city's baroque churches, private homes, squares, have been preserved as part of Brazil's historic patrimony. One will find the African influence on the Brazillian culture from the gastronomy dishes, to the ceremonies of Candomblé which honor both African deities and Catholic holidays, to the Capoeira schools where an unique African form of ritualistic fighting is taught. RIO DE JANEIRO Rio de Janeiro is considered one of the world most beautiful and fascinating cities. Rio is squeezed in between the green mountains of the coastal rainforest and tropical beaches at the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. One should not miss out a stroll through the historical part of the city, Corcovado and Sugar Loaf. Colorful, loud and busy, the city displays colonial architecture in

Highlights BELEM Belem, like Manaus, is a jumping-off point for those seeking Amazon adventures, and also one of Brazil's busiest port. The river is the Para, part of the greater Amazon river system, and the city is built on a number of small islands intersected by channels and other rivers. Weather is hot and rainy with very high humidity. The wettest months are between January and May. At the famous Ver o Peso Market, you'll find plenty of fresh fruits, plants, and fish, and also medicinal herbs and potions, alligator and crocodile body parts, and anaconda snakes.

Highlights PANTANAL Deriving its name from the Portuguese for swamp, the immense 230,000 square kilometre Pantanal is subject to seasonal flooding on a grand scale. Highlights PARATY Paraty used to be a trade market city from where the mineral and gold were exported to Europe during the colonial times. The significance of the economic power during colonial times enriched Paraty’s architecture and made the charming and quaint town it is today. Paraty’s scenery is very exuberant set between hills and the sea, it is divided in two parts, the National Park of Serra da Bocaina, and the Bay of Paraty. This town was also declared a National Monument by the Brazilian Federal Government and “the most harmonious architectural complex” by UNESCO. Paraty’s streets and architecture are impregnated with mysticism. The Portuguese masons came to Brazil and installed here in Paraty. Some of the façades and buildings as well as the architectural plan of the city was conceived by the masons, that’s why most of the façades and buildings have white and blue symbols. The Masonic symbolism is also present in some of the carved stone pillars you find in this town. Paraty is also famous because of its bars, restau-

rants, shops and boutiques, and is also known for it’s delicious cuisine as well as being one of the principal Cachaça (sugar cane spirits) distiling regions in Brazil. Paraty is surrounded by beautful, rugged beaches, numerous islands off the coast, parks with bromeliad plantations and waterfalls. MINAS GERAIS – Historical Cities The colonization of Minas Gerais State by the Portuguese occurred soon after the discovery of Brazil, on the 16th and 17th centuries. The discovery of gold and precious stones on that region attracted many explorers, who transformed the State in a Brazilian economic center at that time. Today gold is no longer abundant, but there are other treasures left, such as the unforgettable landscapes, the historic buidings, mountains, woods, clean air, lakes, caves, stories and tales. The capital, the city of Belo Horizonte, is the fourth in the Country in terms of population. Because it is a planned city, and for the wealth of its architectural complexes, neoclassic and modern, Belo Horizonte also represents a landmark for

urban planning and architecture in the Country. Besides, it transformed itself in a kind of gateway to the various historic cities in the State, such as Ouro Preto (World Heritage site) and, Tiradentes, São João Del Rey, Mariana. The State of Minas Gerais is also known for its cuisine – good and hearty – famous for delicacies such as the cheese bread and typical dishes like tutu à mineira and chicken in dark sauce. BRASILIA Brasilia is a planned capital. Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, was inaugurated on April 22nd 1960. President Juscelino Kubitschek, who became President in 1956, invited the best Brazilian architects to present projects for the new capital. Oscar Niemeyer, today one of the most famous world’s architects, combined straight and rounded shapes to create innovative architectural masterpieces. Lucio Costa, reknowned Brazilian urbanist, devised a lay-out combining beautiness, simplicity and functionality. In 1987 UNESCO declared Brasilia a World Heritage site.

Highlights PORTO DE GALINHAS Located at 60 km form the city of Recife, in the town of Ipojuca, the district of Porto de Galinhas became one of the most sought destinations in Brazil. The paradisiacal landscapes of its ten beaches and the occurrence of sunshine three hundred and sixty-five days a year make the place the ideal destination for those who wants to relax or practice sports such as diving and surfing. The origin of the name is well known. Porto de Galinhas means “Port of Chickens” in Portuguese. In the second half of the 19th century, the Brazilian government imposed restrictions to the commerce of slaves, which were widely used as manpower in the sugarcane farms around Recife; to circumvent the prohibition, the “black ships” (which transported slaves from Africa to Brazil) looked for other places to harbor, far from Recife. One such place was in the bays around Suape and Ipojuca, about 60 km to the South of Recife. When a ship arrived in town, as it was prohibited to mention slavery, the word spread as “there are new chickens in the port”; hence the

place gained its name Porto de Galinhas. NORTHEAST BRAZIL Internationally known for its beautiful beaches and sand dunes, the Brazilian Northeast is a region with its own identity, that holds many strange secrets for the discerning tourist in its littleknown interior. Brazilians are a result of a mixture of many races and cultures ... a sincere smile, primitive fishing rafts, “forró” (For All) dancing, accordion music, leather goods, lace handicrafts, hammocks, and other goods which are characteristic of the region. Also, unique are the culinary delights made of flour, tapioca, brown sugar and coconut sweets, sun-dried beef, lobsters, crabs, coconuts, cashew nuts and regional fruits. Natal, located in the center of the Northeast coast, is the ideal starting point for those who want to get to know this region. Genipabu, Pipa, João Pessoa, Recife, Olinda and Fortaleza are all accessable from this city. The beaches of white and warm sands are synonymous with “carefree” and “recreation”.

MILITARY HISTORY The isles have been discovered (1592), conquered, abandoned, reconquered and envied in successive occupations by the French(1764), Spanish(1766), Argentinians (1820 and 1982) and English (1592,

1690, 1833 and 1892) up to the war of 1982. In 1833 the English navy threw out the Argentinians and took sovereignty of the isles. There was then a period of 150 years of peace apart from the two world wars in which the strategic value of the Isles was demonstrated. In December 1914 a squadron of the British navy based in Stanley fought the German navy and retook control of the South Atlantic. In December 1939, the battle of the River Plate was won by a group of Royal Navy cruisers and after the battle one of the ships docked at Stanley for repairs.On 2nd April 1982, Argentina took back possession of the Isles. This action was supported by the majority of Latin-American states in spite of their opposition to the regime of the Argentinian junta. The geography seemed to play a role in this. England, thanks to the determination of its government and the capacity of its armed forces, managed to reconquer the Isles in two months with the support of the United Nation Security Council. Highlights ATACAMA San Pedro de Atacama (pop. 2,800), an hour from Calama Airport, is an oasis located at 8,000 ft. altitude. Once a center of ancient cultures, the village today resembles a cross between a mining and frontier town with narrow streets, adobe houses and an eerie atmosphere. San Pedro is the perfect base for exploring the surrounding Atacama, the world’s driest desert. From here travelers can take fascinating excursions to archaeological sites, ancient villages, colonial towns, salt flats, geysers, oasis, and to the unique Valley of the Moon. Outings range from excursions in especially equipped vehicles to mountain biking, trekking, and horseback riding. The Oasis of San Pedro is simply an introduction. It is the last area where human life is possible; where a visitor can still be harbored. Once you leave San Pedro towards the altiplanos and the volcanoes, you can truly perceive remoteness, where one experiences an entirely different world, an untamed place far from civilization as we know it.

PURMAMARCA Located 65 kilometres from San Salvador de Jujuy, down Ruta Nacional Nº 9 National Route, and a small take off on Ruta Nacional Nº 52 National Route, you will find the Town of the Virgin Lands - "Pueblo de la Tierra Virgen", which is the literal translation of the Aymara mountain indian language word Purmamarca, a beautiful village cradled to the north by the Río Purmamarca River. This small village of 339 people is very attractive due to the imposing and majestic colourful mountains that surround it. Its buildings are from the XVIIth century, which gives an interesting vision of its pre Hispanic origin. The picturesque layout of its streets is centred on the main church, which was built in 1648. The same as with other villages in the region, the houses in Purmamarca are of adobe, earth, clay and straw mixed, a technology passed down through the generations, the original abodes of these peoples which lifestyle and customs still permeate these areas. Any modern layout is from the end of the XIXth century.

Day 11 – Friday – M/V Desafio After an early breakfast, excursion by boat to reach land. Walking tour in the forest. Return and lunch on board. Afternoon free. Dinner. Night canoe trip to listen to the night sounds of the forest. Overnight.

Day 12 – Saturday – M/V Desafio

Breakfast on board. Visit to typical village of the area where the locals manufacture manioc flour. Lunch on board as you sail the area of the famous Piranha fishing. Dinner on board. Night excursions by canoe to spot alligators with flashlights. Overnight.

Day 13 – Sunday – M/V Desafio / Manaus Early morning wake up to admire the sunrise in the forest. Return to the boat. Breakfast during navigation towards Manaus. Arrival at Manaus pier and transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Small enough for everyone to be on a first-name basis by the end of the first hours, our passengers feel at home in the heart of the Amazon. The cruises depart every Thursdays from Manaus , capital of the State of Amazonas, a city in the jungle that prospered during the rubber boom last century. There is a four days cruise visiting the Anavilhanas Archipelago, the larges river in the world, and it’s igarapés (permanent river channels) and igapós (non permanent river channels). Due to its acid waters, endemic mosquitoes are practically inexistent. The cruise also includes daily explorations and activities in small motorized boats into the jungle, as well as a rich Amazonian cuisine served in the panoramic restaurant.

On the third Saturday of each month you can disembark in Rio Gallegos. Main season runs from October to April with the shoulders being primarily for those visitors with a particular interest in fishing. November to February is prime-wildlife viewing time. 4 – Festivals in Latin America Latin America is known for its numerous festivals and carnivals. Every country has many festivals, including both religious and cultural festivals. Some of them are nationwide but many take place only in specific villages and towns. Please note that accommodation in the locality of the festivals tends to get booked up many months in advance and some sites and shops may remain closed. Carnival, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Witness the greatest show on earth, including the colorful processions, music, dancing and revelry. Takes place during 4 to 5 days, starting on a Friday and ending on a Wednesday (Ash Wednesday). Parades are on Sundays and Mondays. The other days you may enjoy street carnival. 5 – M/V DESAFIO – departures every Thursday around 2 pm. Passengers must arrive either on Wednesday afternoon, or Thursday before noon. The cruise reserves the right to vary itineraries in accordance with operating requirements and cancel departures without any previous notice. The Captain reserves the right to add or omit portions of the Cruise due to weather or technical or operational reasons without any previous advance notice to the passengers. Changes in the itinerary due to technical reasons does not entitle the passengers to any claims or refunds.

Terms and Conditions Adventure World from here on named as The Company: 1 – The Company acts as a co-ordinator for all persons taking the tour in the making of all arrangements for transportation, sightseeing and hotel accommodations. Adventure World does not own, manage, control or operate any transportation vehicle, any hotel or restaurant or any other supplier of services. All coupons receipts and tickets are issued subject to the terms and conditions specified by the suppliers and all services are subject to the laws of the country where the services are being provided. 2 – The Company only acts as an agent for the owners contractors and suppliers of transportation an/or other related travel services provided and assumes no responsibility for the loss or damage to baggage property or for injury illness or death or for any damages or claims whatsoever arising directly or indirectly from accidents loss or damage to person or property delays, transport failures, strikes, wars and uprisings or acts of God etc to over which we have no control of. Clients are strongly advised to insure adequately for the full duration of their travel arrangements in respect of illness injury, death, baggage and personal effects. 3 – While The Company will use its best endeavours to operate all tours as advertised, reasonable changes in the itinerary may be made without previous notice where deemed necessary or advisable by The Company. No refund will be made for any unused services which are included in the tour price. 4 – Rates for the itineraries herein will be provided upon request. Quote will be sent based on your request, however if you do not specify your options, rates will be based on SIB (regular) where possible and private for the cities where SIB services are not available. 5 – Optional tours are available in many of the destinations and are under the responsibility of third parties and guests decision. Under no circumstances our Company can be responsible for any loss, damage or injury occurred during the excursion. 6 – Payment Terms – A non-refundable deposit of 20% of total per person is required when booking is confirmed. The balance becomes due 60 days prior to your arrival at your destination. 7 – Cancellation Policy The following fees will be charged based on the date of receipt of written notification of cancellation of booking: If cancelled after confirmation of reservations but more than 60 days prior to arrival: deposit forfeited Between 30 – 60 days before arrival: 50% of cost of itinerary. Between 14 – 30 days before arrival: 75% of cost of itinerary. Between 0 -14 days before arrival: 100% of cost of itinerary.

8 – Insurance – We strongly recommend that at time of making your booking you supply yourself/your client with travel insurance to cover cancellation charges, luggage claim, medical expenses, accidents and others. Immigration policy in most countries requires that all visitors supply proof of medical insurance. Champions Parade, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil – A parade of all category winners from the Rio Carnival (happens a week later). Carnival, Salvador. Bahia, Brazil - This carnival is a street vase with vibrant Afro-Latino musico of the Bahia region. Normally goes through a week or so ending on Wednesday (Ash Wednesday). New Year, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil - Celebrate New Year on the Copacabana Beach, with shows and magnificent fireworks.
