When the Pavilion has evening performance events, The WP transitions to a pre-show lounge with specialty cocktails and food to make your evening even more special.

If sweet treats are more your thing, you will want to head up to the second floor of the Kirby Science Discovery Center, where the former

concessions area has now transformed into Parlour House.

Last November, the Washington Pavilion acquired business operations of Parlour Ice Cream House, which was previously located across the street in Washington Square. Now, the same delicious ice cream is available in-house, along with other snacks – perfect for your visit to the museums or Wells Fargo CineDome & Sweetman Planetarium. Staff will keep you coming back for more, with rotating flavors each month, including options that are gluten- and dairy-free.

With the Washington Pavilion gearing up for its 25th Anniversary celebration this summer, now is the perfect time to plan a visit to their outstanding attractions – or simply stop by for lunch.

THROUGH THE LENS: MINNESOTA’S JIM BRANDENBURG

Raised on a farm northwest of Luverne MN, Jim Brandenburg developed an early love for nature. While in junior high, an amateur photographer and local businessman gave Jim his first camera. With that camera, he took his first picture of an animal…a fox on the prairie of Blue Mounds State Park, only a few miles from his home. That photograph and his one-on-one experience with animals led to his professional career in photography.

Brandenburg’s professional career began while majoring in studio art at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. During summers and breaks, he worked as a photographer for local newspapers. Following graduation, he went on to become picture editor of the acclaimed Daily Globe in Worthington MN. While at the Globe, he began freelancing for National Geographic and became a contract photographer in 1978. It was an unheard of accomplishment for someone with so little nature photography experience.

For the next three decades, Jim traveled the globe as a photographer with National Geographic magazine.

His career at NG resulted in 23 magazine stories, several television features and many NG books. Prestigious national and international magazines and papers such as The New York Times, Life, Time, Audubon, Smithsonian, Natural History, Airone, Modern Maturity, BBC Wildlife, National Wildlife and many others have featured his photographs and stories.

Jim was twice named “Magazine Photographer of the Year” by the National Press Photographer’s Association, “Kodak Wildlife Photographer of the Year” by the Natural History Museum – London and BBC Wildlife Magazine, and a Lifetime Achievement Award by the North American Nature Photographers Association. In March 2023, Jim was awarded the National Geographic Lifetime Achievement Award by The Photo Society, which was comprised of 200 of the magazine’s photographers spanning three generations. Jim’s was the fifth lifetime achievement award presented in National Geographic’s 136 year history.

His photographs have won a multitude of national and international awards with inclusion in Life Magazine’s Collector’s Edition – The World’s Best Photographs 1980-1990; “Photo District News – 20 Years of Great Images” and in April, 2010, four of Jim Brandenburg’s images were chosen for inclusion in a unique collection that represents the 40 most important nature photographs of all time by the International League of Conservation Photographers, a fellowship of the world’s top professional conservation photographers of the world.

William Allen was quoted as saying this story is: “the most photographs the magazine has every published in one feature in its entire history...and by the way, using the least amount of film.” A book and documentary based on the story became national and international best sellers. Jim continued this challenge in 2001 by shooting 90 days of summer with his first digital camera. The summer season was published in the June 2003 NG issue titled “Boundary Waters.” The book Looking for Summer followed.

In the spring of 2014, Jim shot “Awakening” using his latest digital cameras. Once again, NG published all 93 photographs in April 2016 in “93 Spring Days”. He broke his own 90 photo feature record with NGM. On March 21, 2018, Jim finished a milestone of making a photo of every day of Minnesota’s four seasons. After shooting winter, the entire year is now complete.

In 1999, Jim and Judy Brandenburg established the Brandenburg Prairie

In 1994, Jim stepped back from his work with NG to his home in Ely. He wanted to reconnect with nature. From the first day of autumn to the first day of winter, he challenged himself to take only one photograph each day. These photographs were featured in the November 1997 National Geographic magazine, “North Woods Journal.” NG Editor

Foundation. The work of this non-profit is dedicated to promote, preserve, and expand native Northern Tallgrass Prairie in Southwest Minnesota. Proceeds from the Brandenburg Gallery, opened that year, along with charitable donations are dedicated to support Touch the Sky Prairie. Today the Foundation has acquired over 1,000 acres of native prairie and is operated in partnership with US Fish & Wildlife Service for the public’s enjoyment. Touch the Sky is located 10 miles northwest of Luverne, only steps from Jim’s family home.

Over the last six years, Jim has focused his energy on video production. In 2019, Jim began working with the Bell Museum to produce a live action dome planetarium production called “Secrets from a Forest” which was released in late Fall 2023. With the cinematography team – led by Neil Lucas, award-winning director of many of Sir David Attenborough’s films – Jim wrote and produced this interwoven story of the relationship between nature and art through the exquisite and rare Stradivarius Violin. The story begins deeps in the Paneveggio Forest in the Dolomite Mountains of Northern Italy, where spruce trees grow over 200 feet tall in the crisp alpine air and are as “singing” spruce, the source of wood for this famous violin. It continues in the violin maker’s

studio, for an intimate and firsthand look at the creation of this exquisite instrument. The final minutes take place in a concert hall, to hear the violin – the thrilling and powerful result of this delicate dance between human beings and nature. The production brings Jim’s love for nature and music full circle. Jim continues to work with French film-makers on a film about his life, no release date has been announced.

In January 2015, Jim began a project with Laurent Joffrion called NATURE 365. The project features one-minute, daily web-based videos from January 1 to December 31. The project continues today with Jim and other videographers creating a natural and poetic vision of nature through wild biotopes. Visit https://www.nature365.tv/ to receive daily reminders.

Visit Luverne for the opportunity to see Jim’s work first-hand with a visit to the Brandenburg Gallery at 213 East Luverne Street (Rock County Courthouse Square). The Gallery features Jim’s awardwinning prints, posters, cards and postcards. Four videos run in the Gallery including: “Chased by the Light”, NG “Arctic Wolves”, “Courage and Light” and “Images of Home”. Open M-F: 8am to 5pm and Sat: 10am to 5pm.

CHARLES K. HOWARD: “If

it

were not for him ”

Although there are dozens of historical markers in Minnehaha County, all of which tell a story about an event or a person, we have yet to post a marker to commemorate the life of Charles Kent Howard, a man who made remarkable contributions to local and state history. Often referred to as “Charlie” or “C. K.” Howard, he carved out a life that established him as the quintessential Dakota frontiersman. He loved the frontier and believed in its promise and he did his best to instill that belief in others.

Howard was born in Delaware County New York, on May 7, 1839. Little is known about his early years, but by the mid-1850s, he was a resident of the struggling, promising town of Sioux City, Iowa. He earned some money in the real estate business, but he was wiped out by the national financial crisis known as the Panic of 1857, when investments in the west collapsed. The irrepressible Howard was undaunted, however, for he seemed to be destined to be a man of many talents. Among them was that of a steam-powered riverboat captain employed by the American Fur Company based at Fort Pierre on the Missouri River.

One of the steamships he piloted was the Lewis Burnes, and in November of 1861, the sturdy little steamer hauled a load of corn from Sioux City to Fort Randall in Dakota Territory. It was rough going for captain and crew but Howard was considered a “first rate fellow” and an experienced boatman. Risking high winds and low water the boat

arrived at the fort in time for Howard to spend the winter there.

When spring finally arrived, the ice began to melt and the Lewis Burnes broke away from its moorings and drifted downstream several miles until it got stuck on a sandbar. After a herculean effort by a team of men, the boat broke away from the mud and with Howard at the helm the steamer rode the wild, spring current all the way to St. Helena, Nebraska.

Charley Howard parted company with the Lewis Burnes, but was not done with piloting steamboats. He owned and operated a ferry boat named Jane Ritchey. The gallant Howard was apparently not content with simply ferrying people and goods from one shore to the other, for in 1862, he bid farewell to the Jane Ritchey and set out for the wilds of the upper Missouri River to engage in trade with the Indians at Fort Pierre.

At some point in time, Howard owned and operated the “Sutlers” store located in the “Old Barracks” at Fort Dakota, a military installation built near the falls of the Big Sioux River. A “Sutlers” store was more or less a general store, and although settlers were not permitted to claim land within the bounds of the military reservation of Fort Dakota, they often visited the fort to buy supplies and food. He didn’t know it, but Howard had just begun his long sojourn in Dakota Territory.

When Fort Dakota was vacated in 1869, Howard was among the many squatters who were ready to engage in town building — once the federal government ordered the land within the military reservation

sold to the public. Others who joined Howard with enthusiasm included R. F. Pettigrew, Nyrum Phillips and Dr. Josiah L. Phillips.

Howard continued to do business buying pelts from Native Americans, while maintaining trading posts at both Sioux Falls and Flandreau, the latter located on the Big Sioux River about 40 miles north of Sioux Falls. During one particularly good season, he bought over 75,000 muskrat pelts in addition to many other furbearing animals. Throughout the 1870s, Howard maintained a mercantile business from a wooden frame building until he constructed a two-story brick building at the northwest corner of 10th Street and Phillips Avenue in Sioux Falls. The building that once housed a Newberry dime store still stands. It is the second brick structure to be constructed in Sioux Falls.

Howard’s business interests grew along with the increase in the population in and around Sioux Falls. One could buy almost anything at his store, but often at exorbitant prices. As time went on, he owned and operated a stage and freight line, a furniture store and a brewery. But Charley wasn’t all business, and could be counted on to be a royal entertainer and give speeches at social and political gatherings.

Times were tough and made even worse by the calamitous grasshopper invasion in the mid-1870s. Clouds of the swarming insects attacked fields, eating the crops down to the dirt before flying off to devour more greenery. The hardship experienced by sodbusters and their families was heart breaking and was the cause of many families to pack up and leave Dakota.

With desolation and defeat in nearly all parts of the territory, ordinary prayers seemed insufficient; Dakota needed a savior. Answering the call, Charley Howard stepped up and took charge, lending a hand here and there, extending credit to families who were broke and in desperate

need of money to feed their children. He encouraged people to stay on their farms because as he said: “Someday your farm will make you rich.”

At one time during the grasshopper crisis, a man stopped at his store with two cows tied to his wagon. He told Charley that he was pulling up stakes and was leaving Dakota; he offered to leave the cows to pay his bill to the pioneer merchant. Howard angrily told the man: “you take those blankety-blank animals and go back to your claim! Go back and stay there and as long as I have anything left you can have credit for what you need.” The farmer stayed as ordered and went on to become a wealthy and prosperous landowner.

The gruff and salty Charley Howard also stayed. He became the first president of the village of Sioux Falls and later served eleven years as the Minnehaha County treasurer. Although he was a Democrat during a time when Republicans ruled politics, Howard was well-respected because of his unselfish character. In 1877, Howard’s bravery was on display when he stopped a mob from lynching a murder suspect.

After many years in and around Sioux Falls, Howard moved to the far western part of Dakota and was convinced to by a large herd of Texas cattle from a con-man. The cattle were unable to withstand the cold and snow of a Dakota winter, and most of them perished during a blizzard. Howard was crushed and broke and he returned to Sioux Falls to live with his sister.

On November 4, 1918, Howard died penniless, but owing to his popularity among his contemporaries, he was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery beneath a stately 30 foot monument, the cost of which was borne by his many friends. Charley Howard was truly one of a kind and his exceptional life kept old-timers talking about him until there were no old-timers left to talk.

Hey Kristy From Farmhouse Market. I have always loved taking “junk” and turning it into something beautiful. I grew up with not having much. So I think just seeing what people were throwing out I thought wow, I can do something with that. I started to redo things for my home after work. It was a great outlet to be creative. I spent my days working full time side by side with my dad as a small engine mechanic. Yes! I can tear down a small engine and put it all back together! It was something i didn’t want to do forever though, so became Farmhouse Market.

I started Farmhouse Market in 2015 doing shows/ flea markets in Mn, Iowa, Sd, and Nebraska. In 2016 I started doing monthly shows at my house in my shed, I also had a booth at I-29 Antiques. In 2017 I was able to hire my husband, Phil, full time. We had started to redo a lot more furniture for shows and for customs so I needed someone to help keep up. We then added a few more booths, did monthly shows at our home and traveled doing shows around. In 2018 we opened a brick and mortar in Edgerton, Mn. We cut down to one booth and only did a couple of shows a year. In August of 2023 we moved our store to Sioux Falls, Sd. You can now find us every Wednesday-Sunday at 121 S. Franklin Ave. We have loved every minute of our new Sioux Falls store and are actually expanding another 2500sq ft. The new part should be open the beginning of March.

Whena vintage car collector was looking to create a unique office space, the designers at Houndstooth House were more than happy to collaborate.

First, designers Denise Cotter and Michelle Marino went to the large garage space where the client housed a variety of classic cars. There, they heard about his vision, which was to go back in time and create an office within the garage that replicated a 1930s storefront.

Taking a corner of the space, they created a little building within a building, complete with brick walls, large windows, decorative crown molding and period-appropriate exterior lights. A rare green and yellow Polly Gas pump stands outside the door next to a 1930s-era bicycle.

The client already had the old steamer trunk desk, which gave the designers a cool,

vintage aesthetic to design around. True to the client’s love for classic cars, a framed print of vintage Porsche cars hangs behind the desk. It was a print he purchased during the pandemic that took a year to finally arrive.

The Houndstooth House designers added a dark luxury vinyl tile floor that looks great but is also durable since the office is located within a garage. The hair-on-hide rug has a subway tile pattern look to it, giving more visual interest to the space.

Wanting to create a contrast to the stark white walls of the garage, Marino and Cotter

chose textured wallpaper and wood beams to add more warmth to the office.

In addition to the two leather side chairs, they also added a high-top table and two stools for additional seating.

The lesson learned for both the client and the designers is that you can take any available space and, with a little imagination and elements that speak to your passions, create something that is as functional as it is attractive. Irish for Just One Day

Letme start by saying I am not Irish. Mostly Welsh and German, and like most American mutts, I’m sure there are several other nationalities sprinkled in my family tree. But to the best of my knowledge, there’s no Irish. However, like many Americans, for one day in March, I put on a green sweater and celebrate my faux-Irish heritage. On Saint Patrick’s Day we can all be Irish, regardless of our DNA.

In my younger and wilder days, I would gather with a group of friends in the morning for eggs and corned beef hash, before heading downtown for the parade. There we would crowd into bars, drink too much unnaturallygreen beer and regret our actions on the

morning of March 18. Now I’m more likely to raise a glass of Guinness in the comfort of my own home. For some reason, the idea of drinking a gallon of beer laced with food coloring no longer holds any appeal to me. Perhaps it’s the memory of those pain-filled mornings after.

Forgive me for focusing on beverages, but St. Patrick’s Day is often cited as one of the top drinking days of the year, so it seems natural. And since we’re talking about drinking, let’s look at whiskey. The whiskeys from the Emerald Isle are not nearly as celebrated as those from Scotland, but they should not be overlooked. After all, it is believed the word whiskey has its origins in Ireland. The Gaelic

phrase “uisge beatha” literally means “water of life.” Then the Scots borrowed the phrase and changed it to “usquebaugh,” before the English shortened that to “whiskey.”

A discussion of Irish whiskey generally leads to the two big names; Jameson and Bushmills. Now if you’re a good Irish lad or lass, this is an easy choice determined not by taste, but by religion. You see Jameson is from Dublin, and if the roots of your family tree are in Dublin, chances are you are Catholic. But Bushmills, while it is a fine whiskey, is distilled in Northern Ireland and that means Protestant. Put another way, Irish Catholics often say that whiskeys from the North “are filtered through the wrong bible.” Order the wrong brand in a stubbornly patriotic Irish bar and you might end up in fight. Who knew ordering a drink could cause such a ruckus?

I don’t want to start any battles, so I’ll just call it Irish whiskey and let you decide which brand (and church) will make yours. Thanks to my Dear Old Dad, I developed a taste for whiskey on the rocks. I will occasionally drink it neat (that is to say straight up) but I find an ice cube or two will tame the even the harshest whiskey. However, I have learned from my beloved to enjoy Irish whiskey with ginger ale. I’ve seen it called a Big Ginger, a Phlump, a Classy Irishman, or simply a Jameson and Ginger. Call it what you like, it’s a simple cocktail to make and a great alternative to a boring rum and Coke. As a nice upgrade from Canada Dry, give Q Brand ginger ale a try, it’s got a nice bright ginger taste without being too sweet. I like to add a dash of Angostura Bitters for an extra dimension.

But I digress, St. Patrick’s Day isn’t all about drinking, it is also the time when everyone makes corned beef and cabbage, just exactly the way their Irish forbearers didn’t. That’s right; the corned beef we all associate with this distinctly Irish holiday isn’t a big deal in Ireland. Back in the motherland, they probably would have eaten bacon and cabbage and their pork in the dish would have been more like what we call Canadian bacon. Confused? When the Irish immigrants got

30 nest | MAN IN THE KITCHEN

to this side of the pond, they simple couldn’t afford the more expensive pork, so they substituted cheaper salted and cured cuts of beef. And the tradition was born, not out of heritage, but necessity. So where would Irish Americans get their corned beef? From a good Jewish delicatessen, of course, because

that culture has been kosher curing beef brisket for centuries.

While corned beef and cabbage get all the glory this time of year, it’s not the only meal with Gaelic roots. A rich shepherd’s pie is just about the perfect comfort food and if you want to make it special for the holiday, throw

a little Guinness in the gravy. Add a couple of slices of soda bread with caraway seeds and currants and you have a bona fide Irish feast.

This year, we may head down to watch the parade, but if the weather is iffy, we’ll skip it. And regardless of weather, when the young (and young and heart) move inside for a green-tinted Miller Lite, we’ll be at home and away from the fray. We may pick up a few pints of dark, rich extra stout beer to go with a savory lamb stew. After dinner, we’ll tip back a wee bit of Irish whiskey, (mine on the rocks, hers with ginger ale) and remember that underneath our green sweaters, we’re just a Welsh boy married to a Scandinavian girl. And we’ll pretend we’re Irish for just one day.

Do yourself a favor, eat something good today.

Thrifting

FLORA AND FAUNA

Well,

Midwesterners, it looks like we made it. By March, pretty much all of us are living with an ailment known as spring in our brains. We thrifters are no different, I suppose. Pretty much every week I go out looking for signs of spring when I thrift. Recently I found this cute little mug that encapsulates everything about my current mood! Because the coming season means I’m looking everywhere for signs of things I love most: plants and animals. To be honest, my house is already quite populated with both, but you can never get enough of the things you love, right?

So, I’ve got the mug to remind me that spring is on the way. But if I start to look around, I can see a LOT of other spring-like signs. And 99% of them are thrifted! Because I live in an older home, it feels like a cottage core vibe is perfect for my décor. And thankfully I’ve always also been a plant lady. Some of my earliest memories are in the garden with my grandma (and my mom) tending to all the gardens we kept. As an adult, I spent many years in rented apartments, and mostly tended to my work life instead of plants. But as a freelancer who works from her own home, the number of houseplants I try to keep alive today is roughly equivalent to the number of years I am in age (don’t even try to guess)!

Here’s an example. In my office, I have a standing desk that I never stand at for work. I do stand and look at my collection of plant babies, however. Everything in this picture is thrifted, from all the planters and decorative doodads to the Scrabble title that I proudly gave myself awhile back. If you’re into gardening and plants, there are generally quite a few goodies you can thrift easily. Smaller plants look good in coffee mugs or really any kind of unique vessel. Last year, I even thrifted a bag full of live bulbs that grew into gorgeous flowers for my patio.

Pro tip: If you happen to travel to one of our local antique malls, you can often find huge displays of outdoor gardening décor before you even hit the front door. It’s my go to option for spring shopping first, way before the big box stores or Amazon get my attention.

And what goes better with plants than…animals? NOTHING, I tell you! I have a quirky collection of thrifted vintage critters that I’ve obsessed over for the past several years. Deer, dogs, birds, cats, whatever your pleasure, you can often find these cuties for a very low cost when thrifting. Most of the collectible figurines I’ve found come from Japan, and you can also find almost any specific animal you’re looking for online. A lot of people ask what I do with all these trinkets that sometimes can make your décor look cluttered? Truthfully, sometimes tiny décor can be tricky. I’m not one to put my figurines in a curio cabinet to collect dust, so often I scatter them in amongst books and art for a whimsical feel and a nod to the natural world. But if you think outside the box, you can use little items like this as small gifts to animal-loving friends, or seasonal décor that add a cute accent to larger statement pieces.

One note of caution to everyone interested in thrifting in 2024:

34 nest | THRIFTING HOME

vintage and thrift shopping is BIG this year, especially with younger populations. When I’m out thrifting, I often see people in their 20s or even younger looking for quirky vintage pieces, either clothing or décor. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a younger person buying things from the past. Not only are we keeping these treasures from a lifetime in the landfill, but we’re also enjoying the artistry and personality of these older pieces for very little budget. Spring is the perfect time to examine your consumer habits, and curate a pre-loved collection of things that reflect your own style and interests. Maybe I’ll see you out and about this spring!

And the Oscar Goes to… Wine!

Although this year’s Oscar-nominated movies have many merits, oenophiles are bitter that there were few good wine scenes among them. That’s because like some of Hollywood’s most versatile actors, wine has long been cast in both good guy and bad guy roles: either it is a mark of sophistication or of evil. Perhaps that’s because we view wine as a drink loaded with our own insecurities.

Remember Michael Caine, who plays an aristocratic snob hired to teach the tomboy undercover cop Sandra Bullock how to act

like a lady in Miss Congeniality (2000) In a restaurant, he sips on his red wine while she chugs her beer. Caine says to the sommelier, “Garcon, I’ll have another Cabernet Sauvignon.” He looks at Bullock and asks, “And another keg for you?”

Of course, James Bond was one of the first action heroes to make wine seem masculine and sexy. In Die Another Day, 007 is freed after fourteen months in a North Korean prison. The first thing he wants? A shave and a bottle of 1961 Bollinger. In GoldenEye (1995), a

female psychiatrist asks him what he does to relax. Bond presses a button on the dashboard of his Aston Martin, revealing a refrigerated compartment with a bottle of 1988 Bollinger Grande Année and two flute glasses.

Even in combat, Bond can’t resist showing off his connoisseurship: Using a bottle as a weapon in Dr. No (1962), 007 pauses when the villain points out: “It’s a Dom Perignon ‘55. It would be a pity to break it.” Bond snaps back, “I prefer the ‘53 myself,” and gives him a good thump on the head. In Goldfinger

36 nest | VINO

(1964), in bed with his latest lover, Bond reaches over to feel a bottle of 1953 Dom Perignon, and observes, “Oh, it’s lost its chill.” He explains, “My dear girl, there are some things that just aren’t done, such as drinking Dom Perignon ‘53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s just as bad as listening to the Beatles without earmuffs.” Bending over to put the champagne in the fridge to chill, he doesn’t see the killer.

Many films use the sophistication and pretension of wine as humor. In Sleepless in Seattle (1993), Meg Ryan’s boyfriend tries to impress her in a restaurant by ordering a bottle of Dom DeLuise. In Batman Forever (1995), the beautiful Dr. Chase Meridian says to Batman, “I’ll bring the wine, you bring your scarred psyche.” And in The Jerk (1979), the nouveau riche Steve Martin takes his fiancée to a fancy French restaurant. In his opinion, it’s a disaster: First there are snails on the plates, and then they’re served old wine. Martin insists on a bottle of their freshestand reminds the waiter not to forget to put umbrellas in the glasses this time.

Wine has also made hundreds of

appearances in Hollywood thrillers. In Disclosure (1994) Demi Moore uses wine to instigate some nefarious action of her own. In her executive penthouse office late one night, Moore tries to seduce her new manager, a married man, played by Michael Douglas. She tells him to pour each of them a glass of wine. Picking up the bottle, a rare Californian cult cabernet, Douglas asks, “Pahlmeyer ‘91 — how did you know I’ve been looking for that?” “Well,” she says, “I want all the boys under me to be happy.”

Of course, those were the days of innocence, before wineries and other consumer products began paying tens of thousands of dollars for such a mention. Word has it that Disclosure ’s production manager phoned Jayson Pahlmeyer and asked for a free case of his wine to use in the movie. Pahlmeyer told him that it cost $25 a bottle and hung up. But then Pahlmeyer recalled that the bottle of champagne that Tom Cruise drank in Top Gun had garnered Taittinger $150,000 in free publicity. So, he called the production manager back. When Disclosure was finally released, Pahlmeyer’s phone rang constantly,

for weeks; and it rang some more after the European release and the television rerun. Had he made four times the amount of wine actually produced, he could have sold it all.

I hope you, my fellow wine lovers, are watching the Oscars this month with a good glass of wine in hand, reminding yourself of the irritating way that many actors hold their wine glass — by the bowl rather than the stem, warming the wine and leaving unsightly fingerprints. Directors consult all sorts of experts, from set designers to makeup artists; isn’t it time that they include a sommelier on the team? If nothing else, he/she could choose the wine when the cast dines out at those ritzy Hollywood restaurants. Martin Scorcese are you listening? Carpe Vino!
