The Short History Of Skateboarding.
This booklet is an
introduction and a brief insight to the short history of skateboarding and will aime to help improve your basic understanding of related terms and provide an overview to the world of the skater.
Any skater would
say that skateboarding is the best sport in the world.

disagree and brand them as an undesirable part of society and a social devient.

In the beginning skating
was popular in backyard pools and transition as this type of environment was similar to the waves that the surfers were used to and would surf when the water allowed them to. Because of this, early decks were often shaped to look like or similar to the surf boards the the surfers would use in the water.

It was this transition from pool and park, onto the streets that formed the modern day sport that we know today. The stereotypical skater seen around parking lots and other urban landscapes tearing up barriers and objects that weren’t intended to be skated.

Skating has seen a
tremendous rise in popularity over the years with an approximate of 6.35 million skateboarders in the US during 2013. However, statistics show that skating is aging with only 71% of skaters in 2008 aged between 12 and 17 but more primarily made up of younger males between the ages of 8 and 22.
skateboarding has emerged, it has bought a negeative stigma alongside with skaters often being branded as rebels, social devients, or just simply different. Local councils see them as a nuisance and ban them from public areas through the use of by laws and erect sign posts around towns and cities citing that the use of a skateboard in that area is prohibited. This has given the sport a bad image in the media with parents not allowing their children to express themselves through a sport that they see best suits them.
Skating is versatile
as the sport has no mandotory rules that participants must follow and allows them to create their own rules which makes the sport more creative and personal to the skater.

is made up from the deck, trucks, bearings, bushings, wheels, and bolts. It is estimated that the average pro skateboard setup would cost the rider around £160 to purchase, with maintenence needed thereafter.

Park skating consists
of of a concrete area where the rider is required to perform tricks on a set of selected obsticles that are unique to that park. These obsitcles often consist of banks, ledges, drops, stairs, and rails and are often paired with transitionable objects such as quarter pipes and mini ramps. These challenge the rider and make the sport a challenge for the rider while giving them the freedom to perform tricks in any given direction that they wish to skate the park.
