HE CHALLENGE for this project was to produce a design for the Krakow Oxygen
House, a community center for the people of Krakow, Poland with lung diseases. The key function of the building was to provide a comfortable and supportive environment to the patients, as well as their friends and families.
In my design process, some conditions I considered of key importance were daylight
hours and sun paths, methods of air scrubbing, climate, wind direction, vegetation, and pedestrian circulation through the park. Other factors I have considered are ways Polish families handle illness of relatives, as well as the traditions of Polish families from generation to generation. This is an important factor to consider because family traditions differer greatly between cultures, especially when a family member is sick, and can have a great impact on the design of a project such as this.
Methods of air scrubbing was another key design aspect. Patients at the Oxygen House
should have access to the cleanest air possible, escaping the pollution of the city. Along with taking advantage of the natural air cleaning properties of the sites vegetation, I explored technologies to clean the air within the building. One process that I researched was the method that the capillaries in fish gills use to maximize oxygen conversion, and applying these findings to the design of the buildings skin to eliminate pollution before it enters the building.

isions for the Tulsa West River Bank
Perspective Rendering- Southern View
The mission of this project was to change the perception of Tulsa’s Arkansas River West Bank from an old industrial site to a potential destination for Tulsans and tourists. This was an interdisciplinary team project, and our team’s goal was to develop an Olympic caliber bike park at the foot of Turkey Mountain, as well to design a dense, European style commercial and residential area. The heart of this design is the promenade that connects a BMX track in the north to a velodrome in the south. This axis is the location of the new urban district, providing a dynamic, bicycle-friendly space for outdoor activites and events.

Architectural Structures THE PROJECT
The purpose of this project was to design the steel structure of a three-story office building. The vertical loads for the roof and each floor were calculated in order to appropriately size each memeber of the builidng, including: -Joists, using Vulcraft open-web joists -Primary and secondary beams -Columns -Bracing system -Bolt connection design Shear, moment, and deflection were calculated for each member, and I used Revit to draw a 3-D model to show the structural system. Materials were applied to surfaces on the first floor for perspective renderings that correlated to prominent spaces. A physical model was also constructed at 1/8 scale.
