fotex@fotec.ch

The FOTECHEM Screen Adhesive has excellent solvent resistance and dries in 15-20 minutes to reach enough mechanical strength to remove the frame from the tensioning device. The time depends on the number of the mesh, the ambient temperature (20°C) and the relative humidity (65% RH). The drying time is approx. 2-3 hours and the complete hardening is achieved after 24 hours according to the ambient conditions. Usage at temperature below 17°C should be avoided. The FOTECHEM Screen Adhesive is extremely appropriated for high module mesh and can be used in automatic wash-out and reclaiming devices. FOTECHEM 2330 is clear, FOTECHEM 2335 transparent; once mixed together the final product has a colourless, transparent colour. The FOTECHEM Screen Adhesive, once mixed, can be reduced with up to 10% FOTECHEM 2327 Reducer if applied on fine mesh numbers. FOTECHEM 2330/2335 has a high viscosity and is suitable for coarse meshes. Furthermore it has a high humidity resistance. For the cleaning of brushes and cans ethyl acetate is appropriate. 2. mixing ratio 5 parts by weight of 2330 to 1 part by weight of 2335. The mixing of the 2 components must be done accurately. It is of highest importance that this rule is maintained at all times 3. pot life 50 - 60 minutes at room temperature of max. 25°C and relative humidity of 65%. The stocking time for unopened cans is approx. 12 months for FOTE-CHEM 2330 and 6 months for FOTECHEM 2335. It can no longer be regenerated by adding reducer in case the pot-life is extended. 5. use Apply the FOTECHEM Screen Adhesive with a brush not too soft, through the stretched mesh on to the degreased and clean frame. If a product of the opposition has been used before, the old adhesive residues must be removed. The FOTECHEM Screen Adhesive can gel at temperatures below 5°C (conditions during transportation or storing) and reaches at room temperature again its normal liquidity; this effect has no influence on the quality of the adhesion

FOTECHEM 2004

Screen Process Stencil Remover Liquid

1. Description FOTECHEM 2004 is a ready-to-use liquid that can be used as a stencil remover. 2. directions for use

info.fotec@saati.com

Apply from both sides of the cleaned stencil with a stiff, metal free, brush. Use this liquid to decoat (reclaim) screen emulsions and polymer films. It does not work on gelatine films. Clean stencil from ink. Then brush on the liquid from both sides. Let stand for the necessary time. Hose off with a hard cold water spray. Better is the use of a power spray after the chemical has been rinsed off with a soft spray.

3. application To remove stencil emulsions, direct/indirect films and capillary films from all meshes. After printing the stencil must firstly be cleaned from all ink residues before they dry in. To speed up the removal, it is recommended to apply a degreaser and rinse with water before the remover liquid is applied. Do not let dry the remover liquid on the stencil. Water resistant emulsions need a longer reaction time for decoating than solvent resistant emulsions. Underexposed stencils become considerably more difficult to remove. If the wrong ink or an inadequate cleaning agent is used (in relation to the type of emulsion or film), the removal can become difficult. Chemically hardened emulsions cannot be decoated. The use of an inadequate light source in relation to the type of emulsion can cause removal difficulties. 4. health & safety Caution: For industrial use only. Store separately, away from heat. Keep away from children. Protective gloves are recommended. In case of contact with eyes or skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice if eyes are involved.

FOTECHEM 2005

Screen Process Stencil Remover Paste

1. Description FOTECHEM 2005 is a thick paste, ready to use, for the decoating of most stencil materials. 2. directions for use

info.fotec@saati.com

Brush FOTECHEM 2005 onto both sides of the cleaned stencil with a stiff, metal free brush. FOTECHEM 2005 paste allows to remove all screen emulsions and photopolymer films. The paste is however not effective for the removal of gelatine films (indirect photo films). Always clean stencil from ink residues after printing. Then only apply the paste. Let stand or continue to brush. Then spray out with water. Recommended is the use of a high pressure device; important is to rinse the chemical off with the soft water spray before the high jet gun is operated.

3. application FOTECHEM 2005 paste can be used for the removal of all screen emulsions, direct/indirect and capillary films on all types of meshes. Important is that the ink residues are removed completely after printing and before they dry in. Use the adequate solvent. To speed up the removal action degrease the stencil after cleaning with a commercial degreaser, then rinse before applying the FOTECHEM 2005. This paste should not dry in on the mesh. Water resistant screen emulsions need a longer reaction time than solvent resistant emulsions. Under exposed stencils are always more difficult to be decoated. It is important that the correct cleaning agent is used after printing to remove the ink, otherwise the cleaning agent can render the stencil removal much more difficult. Chemically hardened screen emulsions cannot be decoated. The use of an inadequate light source in connection with the stencil material can cause removal difficulties. 4. health & safety This product is for industrial use only. Store separated from ink and protect against heat. Keep away from children. Wear gloves. If contact with the eyes or the skin occurs rinse immediately with plenty of water; in case of contact with the eyes consult a physician.

info.fotec@saati.com

2. directions for use Dissolve 100 grams of FOTECHEM 2044 in 10-20 litres of water. For stubborn stencils less water can be added to make the product more efficient and to avoid the use of the power spray. Use minimum of 5 litres of water to 100 gr of FOTECHEM 2044 to avoid crystallization. 3. application To remove stencil emulsions, direct/indirect films and capillary films from all meshes. After printing the stencil must firstly be cleaned from all ink residues before they dry in. To speed up the removal, it is recommended to apply a degreaser and rinse with water before the remover liquid is applied. Do not let dry the remover liquid on the stencil. Water resistant emulsions need a higher concentration of the remover liquid. Use 5-10 liters of water only to 100 grams of powder. This is a strong oxidant. It yields explosive mixtures with organic materials and metal powder. Store separately, away from heat. Keep away from children. Protective gloves are recommended. 3. hints

info.fotec@saati.com

FOTECHEM 2003 has a ph-value of 10-12. It is not recommended for machine degreasing FOTECHEM 2033 should not be used as a concentrate because residues could form after rinsing with water and would cause loss of stencil adhesion FOTECHEM 2023 roughens slightly the mesh; therefore it should be used mainly on new polyester or nylon mesh and not on multifilament synthetic fabrics The ready-to-use degreaser 2003 (or the diluted 2033) is recommended to be used after cleaning the stencil from ink residues and prior to the application of stencil removers to speed up the following decoating action FOTECHEM 2023 can also be used after stencil removal to help eliminate emulsion and ink residues. But each application increases the roughness of synthetic monofilament fabrics FOTECHEM 2023 is ideal as a new synthetic monofilament mesh pre-treatment to improve the adhesion of all capillary films. It helps to build up very uniform water film on new or used screens. On new fabrics the use of FOTECHEM 2023 abrader/degreaser is a must for adhering capillary films on new monofilament synthetic mesh For machine application use only FOTECHEM 2033 S, low foam 4. health & safety These products may be irritating if they come in contact with the skin or the eyes. FOTECHEM 2025

Screen Process All Mesh Preparation Gel for Capillary Films

1. Description FOTECHEM 2025 is a brownish gel, ready-to-use. It helps to create a water film on the degreased mesh to allow a pin-hole free, uniform adhesion for all FOTECAP capillary films, as long as the mesh number and the dry film thickness of the capillary film correspond (see separate table). FOTECHEM 2025 promotes water retention and uniform wetting of the screen surface.

info.fotec@saati.com

2. directions for use Degrease all meshes thoroughly, or Use on new mesh a combined abrader/ degreaser (FOTECHEM 2023) Rinse carefully with a soft water spray Brush on to the wet screen FOTECHEM 2025 gel from both sides Let stand 1 - 2 minutes Rinse thoroughly, including the frame edges, from both sides with a soft water spray Keep the still wet screen in upright position Then use a very soft water spray from the squeegee side (to avoid dust/dirt particles on the film side!) to form a water film by rewetting the print side with a soft flow-down of the water Adhere the FOTECAP capillary film immediately to the wet screen by using any of the adhesion methods (see illustrated-how-use sheet for FOTECAP) Apply a single, light squeegee stroke on the squeegee side and remove excess water with paper towels from the frame edges, the backing sheet (carrier) and the open mesh area 3. hints The use of FOTECHEM 2025 improves the adhesion of all FOTECAP capillary films. To reach a perfect print result with capillary films, the following remarks should be considered: The coarser the mesh the more difficult it becomes to build up a continuous water film on the screen. Consequence: the coarser the mesh the more important it is to use FOTECHEM 2025. As a general rule, for all meshes below 120-34, FOTECHEM 2025 is needed. The finer the mesh the less water can be maintained in the open area of the screen. Consequence: on fine mesh the screen must be thoroughly and uniformly wet on the print side to ensure a pin-hole free adhesion. As a general rule, for all meshes over 12034, a sufficient quantity of water must be applied by using a soft flow-down. To avoid saw-teeth or insufficient adhesion, the dry film thickness of the FOTECAP must correspond with the mesh number and mesh type. Stencil thickness is directly related to mesh count and thread diameter of the mesh. 4. health & safety No special measures are required. The usual precautionary measures should be adhered to general rules for handling chemicals. For eye protection use safety glasses.

Emulsion Hardeners FOTECHEM 2100, 2110, 2111 and 2113

1. Description The chemical hardening (curing, catalyzing) of ready-toprint stencils results in permanent, no longer reclaimable screens. The stencil becomes more water resistant too Depending on the type of emulsion and the type of FOTECHEM Hardener the durability of the screen is more or less completed Basically water resistant screens (for textile printing) are thoroughly and completely hardened after the treatment Solvent resistant screens become water resistant Dual-cure (polymer) screens can undergo a negative effect by becoming brittle unless water based inks are used FOTECHEM 2111 is a concentrate

info.fotec@saati.com

2. directions for use Only dual-cure screen emulsions with a content of acrylates can be post-exposed. This increases the ink suitability; the removal however does not become distinc-tively more difficult. 3. three types of chemical hardeners FOTECHEM 2100: Color: red FOTECHEM 2110 and 2111: Color: yellowish-brownish These two hardeners contain a small amount of solids. To avoid clogging of the mesh use air pressure or blot from both sides with absorbing paper. FOTECHEM 2113: Colorless

Economic; most suitable for water resistant (textile) emulsions. After application the curing needs 60°C during 1 hour or 24 hours at room temperature. The drying oven can be used. More expensive but suitable for most screen emulsions. They do not need heat curing. Hardening becomes more effective. 2110 is ready-to use; with possibility for partial removal depending on type of emulsion when further reduced with 1 part water; would need pressure spray above 50 bar for removal. 2111 is concentrated and most effective but can be used as readyto-use solution. A stronger chemical hardening takes place. When reducing 2111 1:1 with water it becomes identical to 2110. Ready-to-use water based formulation. Apply to both sides of the dry stencil by a sponge. Let dry. The stencil is ready to print.

4. processing FOTECHEM 2110, 2111 and 2113 must only be used on polyester and steel mesh. Only FOTECHEM 2100 is suitable for nylon mesh Before the treatment the stencil must be thoroughly exposed, washed out and completely dry. Apply the hardener from both sides with a soft brush, sponge or rags. Never rub. Protect skin with gloves, wear goggles FOTECHEM 2100 After the application cure during 1 hour at 60°C or 24 hours at room temperature FOTECHEM 2110/2111 After application wait for 5 minutes. Then use newspaper to blot the screen from both sides. Afterwards it is recommended to blow the stencil openings with pressure air. Then let dry thoroughly. Heat is not necessary for curing. As soon as the stencil is dry it is ready for printing FOTECHEM 2113 Let dry after the application of the hardener. Then the stencil is ready to print. To prevent clogging any residue of the hardener should be washed out with water

FOTECHEM 2154

Liquid Light

This is an entirely new concept of a stencil making chemical. It helps to reduce the negative effects of underexposure and can be used with all FOTECOAT emulsions.

info.fotec@saati.com

1. Description Colourless, hazard-free liquid, ready-to-use It reacts with all screen emulsions by “completing” the underexposure It is applied after the wash-out on both sides and prevents to a large degree pinholes and loss of mechanical resistance The reclaiming (decoating) is not affected Technically it permits to produce good stencils with underexposure by weak or multiple light sources on all meshes (including metal mesh) when printing fine dots or lines on white or dyed mesh It is not a chemical hardener (catalyst) like FOTECHEM 2100, 2110, 2130 etc. 2. directions for use Washout as usual until the image area appears open, then stop washing Now apply immediately FOTECHEM 2154 first from the squeegee side by letting it flow out and avoiding friction. A sponge or a soft brush can be used; spraying is also possible Do the same on the print side of the stencil; both sides on the still wet screen Let stand to react for maximum 30 seconds Then rinse again both sides with plenty of water; the emulsion has hardened meanwhile and does no longer wash away. This prevents scumming Dry stencil and make ready for printing as usual 3. hints The reaction of FOTECHEM 2154 with the emulsion is irreversible, therefore the wash-out before the application of LIQUID LIGHT must be properly done to avoid scum. The stencil becomes scratch-resistant Stencil making services can produce harder and more resistant stencils 4. health & safety Avoid contact with eyes and skin. In case of contact wash with plenty of water Keep away from children FOTECOAT 2154 is for industrial use only

screen fillers (blockout) FOTECHEM 2060, 2066, 2070, 2010

1. Description The above screen fillers are non-flammable, self drying and solvent resistant and can be decoated with water. They are ready-to-use and distinguishable by color and viscosity. They can be used for touch-ups when thinned with water. FOTECHEM 2060 blue, medium viscosity. FOTECHEM 2066 light green, medium viscosity. FOTECHEM 2070 red, higher viscosity. FOTECHEM 2010 green, high viscosity for coarser synthetic meshes and all steel meshes for coverage with a single coat. FOTOCHEM 2010 BLUE: just like 2010, but blue.

info.fotec@saati.com

2. directions for use Apply by brush, doctor blade, coating through, piece of cardboard or plastic onto the open area of the washed-out and dry stencil, mostly on the print side of the screen. Scrape it evenly into the mesh. If necessary - and to reinforce it - apply a second coat from the opposite of the screen. For indirect film stencil apply the screen filler, when stencil carrier and fabric are dry, onto the open mesh area and over the carrier of the film, but before the gelatine film is dried. Then let the stencil dry completely before the carrier is peeled off. This helps to maintain good register. Decoating: after ink removal, but before stencil removal, rinse with warm water. Don’t use remover products before the screen filler is washed off. 3. health & safety These products may be irritating if they come in contact with the skin or the eyes. Flush immediately with water and contact a physician. These are industrial products. Keep away from children. 4. storage & handling No special measures are required. The usual precautionary measures should be adhered to general rules for handling chemicals. For eye protection use safety glasses.

FOTECHEM 2076

Screen Fillers (Blockout)

1. Description This is a water resistant screen filler (for example in ceramic and textile printing) with self-drying characteristics and low viscosity. It can be used in combination with water based inks or adhesives and water resistant screen emulsions.

info.fotec@saati.com

2. directions for use Apply by brush, doctor blade, coating trough, piece of cardboard or plastic onto the open area of the washed-out and dry stencil, mostly on the print side of the stencil. Scrape it evenly into the mesh. If necessary - and to reinforce it - apply a second coat from the opposite of the screen. Cure for 3 hours at room temperature or for 30 minutes at 40-50°C (104-122°F). Water resistance can be further increased with FOTECHEM 2119. FOTECHEM 2076 WR is difficult to decoat: use decoating chemicals such as FOTECHEM 2004, 2005, 2044 or 2048 and a high pressure washer. No chemicals should be used for the decoating step. For solvent based or water/solvent based inks standard screen fillers like FOTECHEM 2060, 2066, 2070 or 2010 must be applied. Water only or mineral spirits can be used for the screen washing/cleaning but no solvents as long as the FOTECHEM 2076 WR is not removed. 3. storage FOTECHEM 2076 WR can be stored at room temperature for one year. 4. health & safety This is an industrial product. Keep away from children. FOTECHEM 2076 WR is not hazardous. Safety sheets (MSDS) are available on request. 5. handling No special measures are required. The usual precautionary steps for the handling of chemicals should be followed.

This is not a must but a most valuable help. • Removal: Use standard commercial decoaters or better the FOTECHEM Remover in paste (FOTECHEM 2005) or liquid form (FOTECHEM 2004). For machine decoating use FOTECHEM liquid concentrate 1:30 (FOTECHEM 2048). For stubborn ink and stencil residues: • Brush FOTECHEM Regenerator 2085 from both sides onto the mesh. FOTECOAT brushes are ideal. • Let stand a few minutes. The longer the better. However never more than 30 min. The mixture of FOTECHEM 2085 and FOTECHEM 2080 must not dry in on the mesh for less stubborn ink and stencil residues: • Apply FOTECHEM 2080 with a brush from both sides and let stand maximum 30 minutes. The paste must not dry in on the mesh. Finish • By rinsing both sides with a soft water spray (do not start with high pressure water for safety and health precaution). • Followed by a thorough high pressure spray from both sides. Only the mechanical action of the water pressure removes the softened stubborn stains. • Repeat action if necessary.
