Candidate for Masters in Architecture

IOA University of Applied Arts Vienna

A collection of selected works as an attempt to formalize the ideas I have been developing. Excerpts of ideas on material and immaterial formation but more so the processes behind their conception. While certain chains of thought are are more evident throughout the body of workrepetitions and derivatives, much of my notions remain abstract. Still refining and continuously redefining. the origins in first the technicalities and theories of the visual arts and the understanding of limitations of tool-sets and material properties for creation. as it is with my interest in music, grounded in classical training the methods and logic of music theory is only the foundation for the creation of art. there is the written piece and the act of reassembling it. my preoccupations and studies in architecture developed from haptic methods, thoughts and explorations in first person then to a scale of spacial and the structural. i am preoccupied with the methods of collage making. the actions of collage in two dimensions, three dimensions, and four dimensions. the actions of collage on an introspective scale, microscopic scale, and macroscopic scale. the discoveries by re-formation, the accidentals of juxtaposition and the intricacies of layering. my intention is to explore the paradox of the physicality of digital space, contradiction of strict definitions yielding abstractions, and visualizations of the unimaginable. to refine the processes i began and redefine it within the ioa. hybrid methodology: haptic processes and digital thinking. to use evolving digital as brush on canvas.

Design Studio: School for the Arts

It begins with reading a story about a man searching for someone lost within a printed world, his means of finding answers and discovering this man is by deciphering clues left within a series of art works he encounters. this literary narrative forms groundwork for the architectures development. its textual pieces remixed to form an argument that is developed into the institutions program. a visual narrative for the spacial in-habitation of the school is constructed via the technique of collage making using only the images of art works found within the literary narrative. through manipulation of the image and distortions through modes of reproduction the resulting prints form a catalog of visual components.

The proposal is for a Culinary Arts Institute with a total of 5,300 sq-ft of programming. The core components include: educational facilities, four housing units for visiting chefs and a public restaurant. The proposal attempts to facilitate such mixed use to satisfy the requirements unique to each component while creating moments for interaction, collaboration and privacy. The gesture is 'consuming', The biological processing of food-energy as a model of knowledge dissemination and as formal gesture and analogy for building organization.

6 The objects men created reclaimed and buried beneath the sea, washing ashore the unrecognizable debris of their once powerful machines. The objects men created destroyed by the hands of men, driven ashore and ripped here. Unnatural decompositions and rusted carcasses of their once powerful machines. Adaptive Reuse. The conversion reuses the objects scavenged from our landscapes and adopts the structural logic of shipbuilding and compartmentalization of the hull as retail space. The reconstruction of the wreck is housed within the steel frame of the Aberdeen Pavilionwreck-site. Over time its construction breaches its plated harbor and construction continues beyond the site perimeter. A structual hull is constructed as framework for the insertion of future shopping compartments.

The tower is to be a city node for the creation and dissemination of art at the moment cultural centers face extinction and restructuring. the tower is to be a collection of cultural icons and institutions embraced by a flexible infrastructure. the soft body of the outer shell forms a veil masking the raw skeleton which at one instance breaches and tears the body. this body extends from a twisting base intertwined and connected with the cities heavy infrastructure. the tower is to be a point of connection and distribution of movement within the city both physically and ideologically.
