PUBLIC PLAZA DEVELOPMENT

Al Jafiliya area contains recreational, commercial and residential buildings. It is known to be highly active, bringing together a mix of tourists from the surrounding hotels, residents from the areas in the vicinity, and staff from the offices nearby. The landscape in this development is designed to serve the purpose of inviting more people into the development, and offering them a peaceful, social experience in a beautiful outdoor setting. The development is centered between a group of towers consisting of a Hotel, Offices, and residences. It has been divided into five zones: - Central zone – Connecting space in the project. - Active zone – Entrance to four commercial / residential towers. - Transition zone – Connecting pedestrians to the Metro Station. - Social zone – Hotel outdoor plaza offering views and recreation. - Slow zone – Views of Zabeel Park and Dubai Frame. Due to the large size of the development, the design fragmented into smaller space that are more human friendly, allowing visitors to find more private spaces to relax within. For pedestrians passing through, they’re offered green surroundings and a lively environment, bringing more enthusiasm to what otherwise could be a boring walk. My responsibility was the development of the Conceptual Design, CAD Drafting, 3D Modelling & Rendering, as well as Final Proposal Presentation.

The evening experience of the space is something that was given equal importance to the day experience, as evenings in public spaces in the UAE tend to be livelier. The central space of the development, emphasized by the lighter paving color and curved frame around it, had a distribution of thousands of ground lights. The lighting is gentle and not too bright as to irritate pedestrians’ eyes, and it brings life to the large space in a way that’s memorable. A series of hidden strip lights surround the green spaces found around the development, guiding pedestrians along the curved pathways and to their desired location. Streetlights of a modern, elegant design are scattered lightly around the space, to add the necessary lighting during the night.

ZAWAYA WALK

“Zawaya Walk” is a commercial center, the first of its kind in Sharjah, designed in the form of an open mall with various shops and restaurants centered by a beautiful 100 meter lake. In this project, I worked on various outdoor elements, including the design of landscapes, selection of plants, flooring materials, lighting, and distribution of outdoor seating areas. I had prepared the Conceptual Designs as well as supervised implementation on site. Additionally, I worked on the interior design of the public areas, such as the indoor walkways and the food court, as well as full list of drawings for some of the mall’s shop and restaurant tenants.

This is a Villa located in a Residential Complex in Al Khawaneej, Dubai. The main idea behind the project is to offer the Clients their own getaway, giving them experiences they always want to come back to. The landscaping space was divided into eight zones, each depicting a certain feeling when the Client enters each zone. These are positive feelings and meant to take the Client’s mind off their busy working lives, and include Peace, Joy, Warmth, Welcoming, Respite, Family, Wonder, and Motion. Each experience is designed differently with materials, natural elements, and features that emphasize the feeling we are creating. These elements including still water features to give a feeling of peace, seating areas for the family to gather, pathways for jogging and movement, and a miniature forest engulfed with trees.

The Landscaping Proposal prepared for this Villa in Abu Dhabi was designed according to the paving materials manufactured by the Company I was working for. I was responsible for understanding the Client’s requirements for the outdoor space, and then translating it into a design utilizing certain types of pavers. This necessitated product knowledge to understand the sizes, shapes, and colors of each paver in order to use them in a way that reduced cutting waste, but resulted in an attractive design. Darker tones are used near the Car entrance and driveway, to prevent discoloration and stains on the flooring. Near the Villa entrance, the flooring lightens and color and blends into the white colored marble steps. Two seating areas are proposed, one near the entrance for guests making a quick visit, and another in the back, meant to be the family’s private gathering space to enjoy the peace and nature of the outdoors next to the water feature. The night lighting is designed in a way as to guide movement of cars and pedestrians and illuminate the spaces, as well as add an aesthetic and pleasing night experience.

A lake, surrounded by rocks, in the middle of a field of lush grass. The pathway through the grass is made of natural stone, allowing the Client to walk through, cross the wooden bridge passing over the lake, and go into their glass seating room. The space is surrounded by a dense line of trees, creating a shaded enclosure and cooler wind movement within. This garden was created following the Client’s vision, giving them a space where they can hear the sound of water, the sound of the breeze through the trees and of birds.

Architecture Individual student graduation project. Expo City is a Convention and Exhibition center and future World Expo host designed to be in Bahrain, and a restaurant square. having a main theme of "Sustainability, Recycling and Green design”, because there is an increasing importance for this subject in the world and the Middle East is trying to catch up with this movement. For this reason, the aim is for this project to be among the first projects in Bahrain to gain the LEED international certification for environmental design, by applying many of LEED’s recommended strategies. The design concept used in Expo City is "Desert Architecture", inspired from it's context and desert surroundings. The design is going to be something extraordinary and unusual so it would have a stronger impact and the visitors from all over the world will be amazed by it. Its going to have a very fluid and organic design, following the natural beauty of the desert. The project is going to be visited by millions of tourists from all over the world especially during the World Expo, so it's important for Bahrain to represent an important part of it (the desert) for the world to remember. The project benefits the local society by improving businesses, the economy, as well as giving people a recreational center.

PRIVATE AIR CENTER

1

This project is for an existing Private Air Center in Bahrain, that will be demolished, re-designed and following that re-built. The purpose for starting this project is because the clients wanted a modern building that would be more fitting to represent Bahrain in a better image, as the existing one is very old. I worked on this project as part of my work experience at NJ Engineering. The exterior design followed was aiming to emphasize the entrance using the curved glass design with diamond-shaped divisions, as well as give a vast area of glass that would cover the interior lobby and lounge areas, in order to make the space as open, bright and inviting as possible. The interior design idea was to create a space that is memorable and has a strong impact on the visitor, as we want the user to always remember their experience in the short time they spend at this Air-Center. As a result, the interior design (pages 4-7) ended up being quite busy and full if it were used in other situations, but in this one it is perfectly fitting.

This Shopping Center will be placed on an important road in Bahrain that is full of restaurants and reatail shops. The project aim to stand out was fulfilled through the traditional design used, which is not common in the area as most buildings follow the modern approach. The design is inspired from traditional Bahraini Architecture. Some of the traditional features used are the wind towers or “Badgirs”, the extruded wooden beams or “Danchals”, as well as the patterned screens or “Mashrabiyas”, and the wooden pergolas and wooden railings on the terraces. Other details include gypsum moldings on all the glass shop windows, the niche designs in the walls, and the landscape of palm trees. The design also incorporates a roof garden, which is unique and rare to find in the area.

This project is for a large Oncology hospital currently under construction in Bahrain. The vision they are following in the design of the entire project is a modern, open and attractive approach, unlike other hospitals in the country, which are rather bland and unappealing. The clients wanted to use colors that would psychologically provide a form of healing. The area designed here is the central and biggest atrium in the hospital. This was one of the proposals for the interior design of the space. It followed a very natural, organic approach, using wooden strips behind the counter mixed with light and green plantations, which would be of a type that does not indirectly harm the patients or the hygiene requirements of the hospital. The central feature of the space is the large wooden strips hanging from a height of 4 floors, all the way down to the center, mixed with a number of light bulbs in different heights. This again emphasizes the organic and natural concept followed. The colors used on the wall are colors that are psychologically analyzed to be soothing, being close to the color of water, an attractive and calming element.
