“Each morning when I awake, I experience again a supreme pleasure. That of being Salvador Dalí” — Salvador Dalí
S A LVA D O R DA L I Born in 1904 in Figueres, Spain, Salvador Dalí was an iconic 20th century surrealist best known for his unique and extraordinary ability to transform his dreams into artistic works. Recognized for his striking and bizarre imagery, Dalí possessed an elevated imagination exploring the subconscious. Dalí’s artistic repertoire included sculpture, painting, photography, multimedia work and surrealist films. Exploring different styles spanning from impressionism to Renaissance works, his artistic style exhibited his profound respect for tradition and embrace of the pure, boundless creativity of the modern avant-garde. Credited with the innovation of the artistic philosophical concept known as “Paranoiac-Critical Method,” he believed in the “irrational understanding based on the interpretive critical association of delirious phenomena.” Dalí’s raw creativity, eccentricity and technical virtuosity shocked the world, making him one of the most controversial and paradoxical artists of his time. Fascinated with Sigmund Freud and the significance of the subconscious, he developed his hyper-realistic style gaining artistic inspiration by accessing his subconscious and making his dreams a reality. He sought to release the creative potential of the subconscious as inspiration for his dream-like fantastical compositions for which he is revered today. Renowned for his flamboyant personality and grandiose manner in both his personal and professional career, Salvador Dalí challenged and broke conventions. Even decades after his death, his ingenious work never fails to awe.
