ARTIST VAISHALI RAJAPURKAR

“A germ of an idea grows within me, consumes me and when it has matured the outcome is seen on my canvas in all its myriad colours and forms. My inspiration comes from all things around me and my life experiences. For me the journey of creation is an emotional experience and can be cathartic as well as meditativesays Vaishali Rajapurkar After having completing her Diploma in fine art, the actual learning began under the guidance of some of the most talented artists, where she learnt to handle different mediums and techniques. She considers herself an eternal student of art. In search of new mediums and techniques or reviving the age old ones. One such technique is the addictive fluid acrylics with cells ,the guilding on boards is another one, these are just a couple of the umpteen number of techniques still to be explored and so she continues the journey 26

During these times of isolation one has been stripped of all the extraneous trappings and left with the bare minimum.A paradigm shift one can say in our daily life! Each ones coping mechanism has been tested , each one of us has come out differently, positively or otherwise. The nudes in her series depict the vulnerability of our situation and the reaction to it.

30

ARTIST PRAKASH AMBEGAONKAR

He believes in the premise that a painting is a “form” created by an artist on a two-dimensional surface.

After a meritorious Architectural career in USA, Prakash has chosen to paint. Architectural practice and Aesthetics training have given him the insights of composition, form, space and their intra relationships. His passion for painting led him to travel and study worldwide art movements. This background has given him the mature dexterity which forms the backbone of his work. Now settled in India he devotes his full time to painting. 38

While explaining his work ethics he says, “I strive to satisfy the seeing eye as well as the feeling eye,” quoting from Paul Klee’s famous expression “One eye sees while the other eye feels.” He terms his work as, “Casper’s of the Mind.” A subtle tone of humour and a deep concern about quality of life is seen in many of his works. The effects of urbanisation, lack of human interactions, value of true friendships, meaningful deep relationships as well as metaphorical imagery becomes source of inspiration for this artist. The forms provide the impression of infinity, abstraction, and purity. He gives the viewer an opportunity for deep thought and reflection that eventually everything will fit at the end. Although he has more than 120 paintings done in a span of 4 years to his credit, presented are a few of his recent creations hand painted on digital canvas

The emotive charges displayed in his abstract work justify his expressionist adherence. His abstract parlance is not limited to the derivational, but his forms are created through a baffling coercion of soul searches and insights from the depth of subconscious. He engages you by invoking interest of your mental as well as cerebral receptors and then takes you on journey of myriads of possibilities. He uses vibrant colours and hues, objective and non-objective forms, transparencies, luminescence and light, all blended in a harmonious visual whole.

ARTIST KAPPARI KISHAN The journey of Kappari Kishan as an artist started when he was appreciated by his teacher in school for a flawless drawing, which was done as a part of the studies. The attention and applause that he received inspired him to pursue drawing and painting consistently and devotedly. His strong hold on the brush was soon apparent to his friends and they started requesting him to write political messages on the walls, he graciously accepted such work. Gradually, he got engaged in painting temple walls with images of Gods and Goddesses and also rendered a few portraits on commission basis.

A versatile artist, he works in varied media, like handmade paper, canvas, wood and executes murals in varied materials and sizes. While one section of his body of work concentrates upon the traditionally attired, dusky damsels of Telangana the other works are based on recreating the spiritual and meditative strengths of Buddha, the enlightened one. Both series of works are rendered in stark, clear linear quality and a flamboyant colour palette. The popular festival of Bathukamma from Telangana region often gets portrayed in his works along with the ritual in which the women carry a huge mound of iridescent flowers to present to the Goddess. Some of the recent works amalgamate the two kinds of compositions together. A serene image of Buddha is composed along with the village women as worshippers. The rustic ethos is blended along with the divine radiance of the God. The long, plaited hairs of the damsels are rendered in details while the faces of the figures are unseen and initiate a sense of inquisitiveness in the viewers.

44

“In my paintings spiritual maeditative strengths are narrative in back ground of paintings .and sometimes I have done specially buddha works as per my mood and situation I feel vey happywhen am doing buddha and by reading knowing about buddha I gain more knowledge and peace . The knowledge gained I want to communicate to the world. And u can observe jataka tales in my works in back ground of my paintings Kappari Kishan

At first, she was an actress, then a textile designer and then the last 28 years as a fine art painter, working by different mediums such as watercolor, oil, pastel, ink, airbrush and last but not least, her favorite medium “encaustic”.She had several exhibitions in Europe, and her works are in different private collections. She held painting classes for thousands of children in Austria, and also for adults, in watercolor, and in encaustic media. She offers classes in the USA as well. She now moved from Wisconsin to Arizona and stays here teaching watercolor recently.

“I want to express myself, my love, my dreams, my life-experience through all of my works and showing something positive to the viewer...I think there is enough trouble and “dark things” in everybody’s life; the duty of an artist to lead the viewer away from all of them, giving some hope...but trying not to be too “sweet”! I try to keep my very strong, critical view towards my own works, too. In my 32 years of painting experience, I went through all different learning phases. I’m always trying to develop my own style without joining any “isms”… I’m painting always a bit differently, leading by the medium and the theme. Though in every way, I try to show something warm, human and positive…”Maria Varga Hansen

I am blessed with the gift of digital art. I have done over 9,000 images experimenting with the programs. Most of them are from scratch, blank screen and improvised as I go along the way. I have done manias too, using published files off the internet or using a scanner. I am however starting to slow myself down and try be more intense in my image making”. ARTIST JANE BOYD Eminent Artist Jane Boyd is Canadian born and raised in Montreal, Quebec and is currently living in Ontario dividing her time between the urban city of Toronto, Ontario, the quiet of the Muskoka Lake Region of Ontario, and the warmth of the Florida Gulf Coast. Her fondness for design, art, and fashion led her to a twenty-year career of managing and purchasing the merchandise for a downtown Toronto showroom exclusively for Interior Designers.

After her retirement, she took up palette knife painting and her medium of choice is oil and cold wax. Jane’s unique style is a result of watching, absorbing, experimenting and adapting. When she feels what she sees, she paints what she feels. Her landscapes and seascapes, though recognizable, are more about Jane’s impressions of these natural spaces and how she felt while being there rather than a description of these geographical places. Her goal is not to mirror the subject, but rather to explore it with paint and happily getting lost in the moment.A suggestion of the subject, a buildup of paint and exciting strokes with her favorite palette knife. Jane likes moody and unpredictable colours. She enjoys mixing her own, maybe starting with a tube colour then tweaking it to her liking. She enjoys the discovery of a “new shade” and her colour choices seem to set her work apart.

ARTIST PRIYA YABALURI

“Being an artist for more than 25 yrs. and choosing it as a profession in spite of my varied background, I could find back the space within me which I had hidden for some time since my childhood to explore and create. The great thing about being an artist is that you are your own resident expert on your work, you know and study more about your technique, background, or subject matter and your perspectives over the period of time. This makes it possible to experience the ideas and thoughts of social‐political relevance and visions of thefuture of art. It gives me a fascinating insight into my own thinking, my vision and then its practice. I love to experiment with the space and the simple objects and subjects often adapted from the nature. The result being or becoming inspired and creative like some of the most important artists of our time in the form of poetry, writing, and works of art. Traditionally, science is not seen as a creative field and often uses facts to verify the information often unearthed through research. Perhaps my background in science (BSC)DAV college and later Interior designing (PGDID)JNAFAU from Hyderabad makes me think on the whole and different perspective. It adds up to my experience, the logic and the illusion to become my painting. Nature being the primary resource to my creativity. Initially as a child I would sketch and paint everything I felt was beautiful. I was always drawn towards fine arts. I also love to write poetry and compose music. In the last 20 years I have participated in over 35 group and solo Art shows in India and Abroad. I have exhibited in UK, Germany, Petersburg, Moscow, France, London, Paris, Dubai abroad and Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Pune in India. I still need to explore more geographically and learn more about art and culture globally. Art is 104 evergreen. Art sets you free.”Priya Yabaluri

Priya Yabaluri loves to explore various subjects .Her paintings are colorful combination of shapes and forms and the subject often relates to the preservation of nature.

She worked as an Art Teacher in Indian Language School, Nigeria for 10 years and also taught art at home to very diverse age groups .She has participated in various National and International Art shows.

“Art can mean many things to people but to me, art is everything - a means of expressing ourselves when words fall short or leaving a piece of us on canvas for others to see and critique, a mode of venting bottled up emotions. It is vital to know that each one of us is born an artist.Take a look around you. The golden rays of the sun, the grey rain pouring down and the myriad rainbow found. These day to day occurrences are but a manifestation of art on the canvas called life. From dawn to dusk life is bursting with an array of colours. Art is where I find peace and joy. We often fail to understand the effect that art around us has on our mood, emotions and in many ways, how we perceive life. While art is my happy place, it is also a way for me to spread happiness and positivity to everyone around me. I find immense joy in inviting others to experience my art and I am driven by the hope that my art will impact someone’s life one day.”Jiji Paul

DR VIMMIE MANOJ As a self-taught contemporary artist, she had no formal education in fine arts, mainly because she never ceased to be an artist and due to her well-read research interests. Art for her is a mode of expression that helps in seeking the unraveled truths. Expression finds its way through the various forms of creative practices. Her initial exposure to an Art enriched environment began as a child with self-taught drawing, painting inspired by the museum visits and Bharatanatyam classical dance training for six years. Further a graduation in Science from Pune University had imbibed her logical reasoning. After her marriage to an Indian Forest Officer her keen interest to the surroundings propelled her inclination to literature, sculpture, and art activism. The Doctorate study in English Literature coupled with passion to express, and the opportunity to be close to nature had made a potent artistic mix. Her creativity finds its own medium, at times in colors, in wood, in paper Mache, at times in words or even in a mix of all. Eventually, in this process of the creative journey, the interplay of conflict and harmony between the real and the virtual impart an ethereal angle to her works. Her attempt to portray the abstract reality that exists beyond our perceptions presents an introspective as well as an analytical view in the artworks. The interactions with the local and regional habitats due to her widespread travels and stay in Forest as well as the urban lands, has undoubtedly added experiences to her personal and creative journey. The Indian tribal wood-art inspired her driftwood creations, the Archeological remains, Tribal Bagh prints or the prehistoric rock paintings have shaped her art journey. Her artworks are fused with symbols that reflect the cacophonous and the content state of mind. She has participated in over 55 National & International Group Shows (London, Germany, Hungary, South Korea, Turkey, Russia, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Baroda, Indore, Gurgaon etc.), Residency Programs, Art Projects, Art Camps, conducted Workshops, Lectures and have held 7 Solo Shows. Her research Articles have been published in Books and International Journals. She has been working on Sustainable and Recycled Art for over three decades. In the current scenario, Art has the power to bridge the isolated individual minds and open unbound avenues leading to a utopian existence. 128

I aspire to create my realm through passionate pursue of art through, Installations, Paintings, Driftwood Sculpture, and my Poetic Self (Ekphrasis/ Art and Poetry). My close association with the tribal lands has moderated my Arts to sustainably work and recycle various mediums like Driftwood, Paper, Jute, Cloth, Threads, Used Brushes etc. I refuse to follow the conventional theories innovated by men instead prefer to experiment with the expressionism giving it a new visual language. The forms and motifs create new metaphors of expression. The lockdown has given me an opportunity to experiment intensively and add newer words to my art vocabulary. “says Artist Dr Vmmie Manoj.

ARTIST HIMANI PATWA

Since childhood Well known Artist Himani Patwa always tried to beautify anything that she could get her hands on from paper, clay, earthen pots and random objects. After acquiring a Diploma in Fine Arts from Sheth C.N. Fine Arts Collage in Ahmedabad she explored various aspects of Art. It’s been 20 years since she started to work as an artist.

“During my journey of becoming abstract artists; I have experimented with a lot of forms. However; whatever I paint out of my imagination of the world; I end up painting the buildings, homes which depicts the values of the family and friends and their connection of the great souls residing in these houses. I believe; bonding between the members of the family and friends is of prime value for the success & the culturally rich life. I love architecture forms and designs. I take inspirations from Indian architecture form. I love to convert architecture forms in to paintings. Art enriches my life& the creation process is an extension of my experiences and emotions. When it comes to making art FUN is the most important part. Art got me bowed on to the life’s various vibrant forms. This brought me closer to the window of life where in we have drawn the beauty of the world and paint it on canvas. Art for me is prayer and expression of life. ”Himani Patwa

“ I am fascinated, not so much by the technical of a raga. but more with what kind of aural or visual depiction the raga actually conveys to me. I tend to unwittingly colour code the ragas, as they appear to me. At other times, it is the equivalent of a particular type of everyday experience that a specific raga can convey. Here I attempt, for the first time, to put down such experiences which are normally visceral. It’s a bit of a challenge, but one I felt was worth taking on. A caveat. This is a purely personal take on the subject, and I do not expect readers to readily weigh in with my flights of fancy. So here’s a selection of ragas, chosen subjectively.”Pradnya Shah

ARTIST RAJNI TAYAL Artist Rajni Tayal started painting since last 8 yrs. The journey since then had been downwards into the depths of the ocean wherein each time she came up with soaring spirits and a painting as a trophy. This is what painting or any Art form does to your life. At the age of 50 when she started painting, she did not know that her interest would persist for so long. But with time her interest changed into obsession, obsession into passion and now passion into meditation.

“One thing I learnt while painting that during the process you put yourself at a distance to observe your work, miraculously the faults you are not able to see from close begin to show when you put yourself at a distance. This practice gave me an insight towards life in general. I began observing things keeping myself at a distance. The whole perspective changed to see things. This is what painting or any Art Form does to your life. When you are lost into oblivion while painting you don’t know yourself when you go and touch the Devine power and come back to the mortal earth. Each time you have a painting in your hands proof of your time spent with divinity. No need to say that deeper you go more focused, more mature you become and wish that I spend the rest of my life the same way.” She says!

She prefers to work on emerging issues on culture, politics, and ecology and safeguarding human values as well as life through painting and trash art. Her dream is to make people aware of human values through artwork.

Through these mixed media artworks she tried to convey the message by making use of naturally available trash building material in the form of mix media, the ecological imbalance due to man’s deleterious activities damaging the food chain of ecosystem The disturbed ecosystem has resulted in shrinking of lands, pollution of the environment, shortage of clean water and spread of serious diseases in all ecological zones of the world. Horses which are symbol of power, trust, strength, love, and affection are so badly affected that they are also leaving their ecological habitats in search of green vegetation and healthy life. “As an artist expression of an artist is the most convincing way to the audience is an ultimate satisfaction. Trash art can be one of the most demanding depictions of an artistic act to bring the people together to enjoy the thrown away natural resources “ Salika Rizvi
