Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI), it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Cineposium 2013 in Jecheon, South Korea. For almost four decades Cineposium has provided film commissioners the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the industry through our professional development programming, and the opportunity to network with the industry and their counterparts.

We are very proud that this year’s Cineposium is being held in the mesmerizing city of Jecheon with its surrounding breathtaking landscapes and the serenity of the Cheongpung Lake. For four days we will experience the fascinating culture and the gracious hospitality of Jecheon and its wonderful people.

Considering our location, it should come as no surprise that this year’s program is focused on providing knowledge and opportunities in East/West film collaborations. A wide variety of in-demand topics will be addressed at Cineposium 2013 including VFX incentives, new technologies, film tourism, and the role of the film commissioner in developing the film industry in their region.

Dear Friends, I extend my heartfelt welcome to all the worldwide film commissioners who have gathered at this year’s AFCI Cineposium 2013.

It is our tremendous honor to host Asia's first-ever AFCI Cineposium in the historic city of Jecheon, South Korea. With 2,000 years of time-honored tradition, Jecheon has long cemented its reputation as a transportation hub, and is well known for having the oldest reservoir in South Korea. Enclosed by picturesque mountains, fresh winds, and lakeside views, Jecheon is also known as a popular tourist destination. The Cheongpung Film Commission has so far tapped into the natural and geographical advantages of Jecheon as a location to make numerous films and TV dramas, thereby standing at the forefront of the local development of Korea’s film industry. Against this background, it now envisions another leap forward through the hosting of the AFCI Cineposium.

The AFCI Cineposium 2013 will take place under the theme of “East Meets West.” We hope this event will lead AFCI members, regardless of their international origins, to effective relationship building and an effective base in which to create a future of successful collaborative networking. To this end, we have worked to the best of our abilities over the past year. We hope you will feel satisfied with this year’s AFCI Cineposium program and leave our shores with fantastic memories and a new insight into Asia during your stay in Jecheon.

RECEPTION/PARTY INFORMATION Cineposium Opening Reception (September 30) The Cineposium Opening Reception will kick off the festivities as we celebrate the opening of the AFCI’s 38th Cineposium and its first ever foray into Asia. Given the interest in Cineposium and East West collaboration, local key film industry professionals will also be in attendance to meet our international guests.

Korean Film Night (October 1) Sponsored by the Korean Film Council, the Korea Film Night Party will bring together members of the film council with Cineposium guests.

The Korean Film Council is responsible for setting Korea’s film policy, as well as putting the future of Korea’s co-production strategies in motion. KEYNOTE PRESENTATION: EAST MEETS WEST WITH LEE, Chang dong (Lake Hotel, Convention Hall) It could prove a meaningless exercise to try to draw a line between the East and the West in the cultural context of films.

Even since the birth of cinema, filmic sensibilities, of both the East and West have flowed seamlessly between the hemispheres, and a good film has always been recognized regardless of its origin. From time to time, a film like Avatar (2009) would simultaneously open globally and people across the world would share its sensibilities together. Yet it could also be said that the film industries of the East and West, still do not know understand each other that well. There have been many attempts to remedy this, but the exchange of talent has often been blocked and with differences in market size and culture, the flow of funding has not always been there. In this session, we will hear from director and producer who have experienced both the Eastern and Western film industries, and will discuss the future and realistic and sustainable, cooperative way forward for our two hemispheres.

GENERAL SESSSION: FILM FUNDING IN ASIA (Lake Hotel, Convention Hall) This session will focus on the current funding trends, major investment types, features, and the investment environment in Asia’s biggest film industries – China, Japan and Korea. Although all these countries belong to the East Asian region, each country‘s film investment structure varies greatly. The Korean film investment market for instance, depends heavily on investment companies mainly led by conglomerates, whereas the Chinese government still exercises strong leverage over the Chinese film investment market. Japan, on the other hand, has a unique investment model known as “Production Committee”. Senior film industry representatives from each country will encapsulate the film investment environment and overall production systems providing the audience with the opportunity to engage with and learn about the biggest film industries that lie at the forefront of Asia.

KEYNOTE PRESENTATION: THE FUTURE OF FILM WITH MICHAEL USLAN (Lake Hotel, Convention Hall) Since the beginning of the motion picture industry, film has gone through many changes reflecting societal and cultural changes: from silent films to talkies, from black-and-white to color, from physical film stock to digital cinema. All of these transformations not only affected the aesthetic aspects of cinema, but also brought industrywise innovations. This ongoing revolution of film is not expected to slow down any time soon. The 3D film market is expanding day by day, and the demands for virtual studio filming is increasing as well. In this session, we invite key speakers from film and VFX fields, and discuss the future direction of the film industry.

GENERAL SESSSION: FILM TOURISM THE NEXT STEP (Lake Hotel, Convention Hall) Film tourism continues to be an exciting proposition to those film commissions looking to increase revenue in their region. However, many are struck in a quandary - to attract private and public investment you have to quantify perceived film tourist numbers and where their tourist dollar might be spent. This engaging case study will look at a number of organizations who have been able to statistically isolate film tourist numbers in order to create specific targeted products, increase tourist numbers and encourage more investment.

Producer Show is a unique event that fits in perfectly with the Cineposium in Jecheon and the following Busan International Film Festival. Like a location show in reverse, the Producer Show invites proven producers and their projects, ready and waiting to shoot in overseas locations. Each producer, whose project is selected for the show, will present a 5 minute pitch about their project to a wide variety of international film commissioners and Asian investors who are significant players in their home markets. Producers will then get to have subsequent 1 on 1 meetings to discuss potential investment and location shooting opportunities. In addition, a specialized world wide incentive seminar will also inform producers of the perfect location and incentive scheme that is right for their project and budget.

KEIKO HAGIHARA BANG

JOSEPH D. CHIANESE

Keiko Bang has spent more than 20 year s cr e a t in g an d p r o du cin g high - en d a w ar dwinning factual productions from Asia for the international marketplace. She is responsible for producing more than 100 hours of blue chip programming which have aired in more than 150 countries around the world. More than 40 percent of these acclaimed films were large-budget co-productions with foreign broadcasters, many of them working with an Asian indie for the first time. She has also played a role in the nurturing of Asia’s budding documentar y marketplace by producing the Asian Side of the Doc (ASD), Asia’s only factual programming forum. Over the past 12 years she has served major corporations and government agencies across Asia, building partnerships between media companies and generating deals for branded, cross-platform and entertainment-related content.

She is also the President and founder of Bang Productions Ltd based in Singapore and South Korea.

Joe Chianese is the Executive Vice President, EP Financial Solutions, a division of Entertainment Partners. Joe provides production & legislative consulting, financial, tax and administrative services for both domestic and international production incentives for film & television.

His almost 30 years of accounting, tax and production experience include positions at Sony Pictures Entertainment, The Walt Disney Company, the ABC Television Network, Paramount Pictures and Ernst & Young. Collectively, throughout Joe’s career he has been responsible for the tax and finance structuring for film and television productions in excess of $5 billion, and for over 3,000 film and television projects. Joe is a Certified Public Accountant, earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Connecticut, and his MBT and MBA from Fordham University.

Gisella Carr joined Film New Zealand as its Chief Executive in 2010 and has most recently organised the visit of the New Zealand Prime Minister to Los Angeles. Danielle Dajani is the Senior Vice President of Production Operations at Raleigh Entertainment responsible for the creation and management of production and business related opportunities for Raleigh’s domestic and international operations. Danielle has a successful 19 year history in physical production and production finance with specialized international expertise in developed and emerging markets. Prior to Raleigh, Danielle was VP of International Physical Production and Production Finance for Walt Disney Pictures based in Los Angeles. As part of her role she oversaw productions in China, India, Russia and the Middle East. Danielle also served as Head of Worldwide Production for London based Aramid Capital Partners and also established Moonlit Entertainment in 2004, a specialized consultancy providing budgeting and production planning for film and television productions. Danielle’s career began at Village Roadshow Pictures in Australia where she rose to become General Manager of the Production Management services division overseeing over half a billion dollars worth of film and TV productions in Australia and New Zealand.

Jerry Day has spent the past 10 years as film commissioner of Tuolumne County, a rural mountain region of Northern California. He was a founding member and chairman of the California film commission organization called FLICS, and now serves on the AFCI Board of Directors. He spent the previous 10 years in television where he produced daily programming for CBS, Yahoo! and TechTV. He is an avid traveller, particularly to Asia, and is currently studying cross-cultural communication at the University of California at Berkeley.

GEORGE DAVID

YU, DONG

George David is currently the General Manager of the Royal Film Commission Jordon - (RFC) and is also the President of the Board of Directors of the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI). Following a brief theater career, his work on film in Jordan began in 1996. He then located to Los Angeles where he pursued a film degree and then continued on to work as a production manager and producer in Hollywood. Over the years he also has had numerous experiences working on a host of film and television projects as well as working in entertainment public relations. At the Royal Film Commission, David has played a key role in attracting and supporting major film productions. These include the The Hurt Locker (2008), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) and others. He also pioneered the Film Train and the Educational Feature Film Program (EFFP) where he undertook the role of Executive Producer on five feature films to date. In 2011 David was instrumental in setting up and administering the newly established RFC Jordan Film Fund.

Yu Dong is the founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bona Film Group Ltd, one of the most competitive non-state owned film companies in China. In the past decade, films produced by Yu Dong and Bona Film Group have broken numerous industry records, achieved significant success at the box office and among critics and judges at award ceremonies. Prior to establishing Bona Film Group, Yu Dong held executive positions at Beijing Film Studio and China Film Group Corporation, focusing on domestic film marketing and distribution for films such as blockbusters Infernal Affairs 3 (2002) and Bodyguards and Assassins (2009), solidifying his position as a leading film marketer. In China, Yu Dong was responsible for the first nationwide midnight premiere, the first Asia-wide synchronized release and the first integration of a distributor's logo in the opening of tis films. Yu Dong introduced the strategy of a “fully integrated value chain” to China and is committed to promoting the industrialization process of domestic films. In 2010, Yu Dong successfully brought Bona Film Group to the U.S. Capital markets, generating proceeds of approximately $100 million.

HONG, Sung won

Harvey was London’s first full-time council Film Officer (Greenwich) - a role he initially developed in 1988 and which is now a common feature of all 33 London boroughs.

In 1998 he joined Film London and in that time assisted over half those boroughs including Westminster and the City of London.

He has facilitated hundreds of productions including Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) (the Thames boat chase), 102 Dalmatians (2000), TV series Spooks (2002), Enigma (2001) and The Mummy Returns (2001).

Harvey has also run the UK’s historic places protection agency the National Trust's filming unit since 2003 raising £7 million and project managed Pride and Prejudice (2005), the largest scale production in the Trust's history. He has also arranged the filming for The Duchess (2008), the Harry Potter series of films, Alice in Wonderland (2010), Jane Eyre (2011), Miss Potter (2006) and Robin Hood (2010) on on Trust property as well as countless TV factual shows and dramas such as The Mill (2013), Downton Abbey (2010 – until present), Cranford (2007) and Parades End (2012).

In January 1997, HONG, Sung won started his career in the film industry by joining the Screen Quota Watchdog Organization in South Korea as head of the statistical survey team.

At the same time, he also held the position of the assistant to the managing director of the Korean Film Producers’ Association. From 1998 till 1999, he worked at the Filmmakers Emergency Committee to Defend the Screen Quota as head of international policy team. At that time HONG, Sung won was at the forefront of Korean film industry’s struggle to keep the screen quota. In 2000, he joined the Coalition for Cultural Diversity in Moving Images as director of the policy team.

During that time he participated in the negotiations between the film industry and the Seoul Metropolitan Government to set up and shape a film commission in the city that resulted in the foundation of Seoul Film Commission in November 2001. Since that time, he has worked as the managing director of the film commission. Under his guidance, in 2007, the Seoul Film Commission was the first to introduce and incentive scheme to attract international productions. From August 2011 till April 2012, he additionally held the position of the secretary general of Film Korea (the national film commission of South Korea). His support of the Korean film industry became manifested in the establishment of the Filmmaker’s Creative Zone, an incubator that is nurturing a new generation of more than 200 writers, directors and producers who use this service every day.

Joe hagg Joe Hagg, Stereo Executive at 20th Century Fox is responsible for one of the greatest movements in cinema of recent years – the 3D phenomena. Whether 3D conversion or filmed in 3D, whether gimmick or a viable film theatre going experience here to stay, it has certainly made an impact over the last decade. Conversions themselves like Lion King (1994) and the recent Titanic (1997), which raked in audiences in China, are testaments to its popularity. In terms of films shot in 3D, Joe Hagg has been involved with the biggest such as James Cameron’s Avatar (2009), Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) and the Academy Award winning Life of Pi (2012).

JE, Sang weon has worked for over 20 years at the Korea Tourism Organization spearheading and taking responsibility for many of its global initiatives.

After studying communication at Seoul National University, Je quickly rose up the ranks of KTO taking care of its Chicago and Hong Kong operations. In 2010 he was placed in charge of the Global Contents Team and now heads their Korean Wave Team. In this position he has quickly forged relationships with Korea's regional film commissions and the Korea Film Council to promote Korea not only as a important film shooting destination but given the interest of the Korean Wave, a destination for film, drama and other forms of content driven tourism.

Michael Lake has over 40 years experience in production and management within both the Australian and International Film and Television Industries. During his career he has held senior executive positions at The Grundy Organization, Crawford Productions, Warner Roadshow Studios, Village Roadshow Pictures and WWE Films Inc. During 2010 he worked as a Film Production consultant and served as Supervising Producer on Bait 3D (2012) the first official co-production between Australian and Singapore. During his career he has worked as an executive producer or producer on many feature films, direct to DVD features, television movies and television series. In December 2010 he was appointed CEO of Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios. Currently he also sits on the Advisory Board of AFCNet and held a similar role with the AFCI.

JONATHAN HYONG JOON KIM

LEE, Byung hun

With a career in the Korean film industry that span over two decades, veteran producer Jonathan Hyong joon KIM has produced over 20 motion picture films. He has recently concluded his appointment as an executive-level film consultancy role at South Korean entertainment conglomerate CJ E&M and set up his own multinational production company Hanmac Culture Corporation. Kim is responsible for one of Korea’s biggest blockbusters Silmido (2004) which sold 11 million tickets and he was awarded Korea’s Daejong Award for Best Executive Producer, the Korean equivalent of the Oscars. He is also credited with helping a 1990s reorganization of the theatrical distribution system in Korea, the establishment of an internet box-office reporting system, was an international advisor to the Hong Kong Asian Financing Forum (HAF) and and has also been an advocate of intraAsian co-productions. In addition, he has also served two times as the Chairman of the Korean Film Producer's Association.

Actor LEE, Byung hun is recognized as one of the originators of the Korean Wave in television and film. He solidified his position as one of Asia's biggest stars and became known as one of the ‘Four Kings’ in Japan. Additionally, he is the only actor ever to sell out the Tokyo Dome attracting 45,000 excited fans.

Lee started his acting career in 1991 with a starring role in Korean TV drama Asphalt, My Hometown (1991). Additional TV projects included Tomorrow Love (1992), Police (1993), Son of Wind (1995), Happy Together (1998), Beautiful Days (2001), All In (2003), and Iris in 2009.

Although much of his early success came from television dramas, Lee’s real passion is in films. His breakout performance came in 2000 with a starring role in PARK Chan Wook's, JSA . He then followed with KIM Jee Woon's A Bittersweet Life which was an official selection at the Cannes Film Festival in 2005. The Good, the Bad, and the Weird and I Come with the Rain premiered in 2008. Lee's critically acclaimed I Saw the Devil premiered in 2011 at the Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews.

Lee's first foray in to Hollywood films came with a starring role in Gi Joe: Rise of Cobra (2009). Following the global success of that film, he signed on for Gi Joe 2: Retaliation , which was released in March 2013. His first period piece feature, Masquerade was released in late 2012, and was met with stellar reviews from both audiences and critics, and has become the highest grossing period piece in Korean history.

Lee's latest Hollywood role was in Red 2 starring opposite Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, and Anthony Hopkins. Red 2 premiered in Korea on July 18, 2013 and has become the second highest grossing market for the film behind the US. Lee is currently filming a Korean feature, Memories of the Sword. In spring 2014, he will reprise his role of Storm Shadow in Gi Joe 3.

In 2012, he was one of the first two Korean actors ever to be honored with a hand and foot print ceremony at Grauman’s Chinese Theater.

LEE, Chang dong

CHARLES LEI Charles Lei is the founder and CEO of Chinese media communications company Thunder Communications International (TCI), an Executive Producer of Chinese feature films and TV programming and is also a Board Member of the Red Carp Digital Cinema Circuit and Zhong Huan Times Theaters. Lei has also successfully structured, negotiated and executed business strategies in the greater China region for several US Fortune 500 companies. Prior to TCI, Lei was the Senior Vice President of greater China for CNBC and has held senior positions with Disney since 1996 promoting their TV interests in the region. Before Disney, Lei ran his own information technology consultancy in Los Angeles. Lei was also a China corporate advisory committee member for the Special Olympics, is a visiting professor of media at Tsinghua University in Beijing and has been honored with membership in the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

LEE, Chang dong is a Korean film director, screenwriter and novelist who has become a defining figure in the Korean independent film movement. In 1997 his directorial debut Green Fish (1997) won favorable criticism and won the Dragons and Tigers Award at the Vancouver International Film Festival. His second feature film Peppermint Candy (1999) won the Special Jury Prize at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2000. Social realist drama Oasis earned him Best Director at the Venice Film Festival 2002 and Poetry received the Best Screenplay award at Cannes 2010 as well as significant international critical acclaim.

In 2009, Lee was appointed as a jury member of the international competition at the Cannes Film Festival and served as the head of the jury for the International Critics Week in Cannes Film Festival again in 2011. Also, notably, Lee served as South Korea's Minister of Culture and Tourism from 2003 to 2004. Subsequently he was awarded the Chevalier (Knight) order of the Legion d'Honneur (Legion of Honor) by the French government for ‘his contribution in maintaining the screen quota to promote cultural diversity’.

Currently, he is working as a producer on production company Pine House’s film Doheeya slated for release in 2014.

Yin Li is the current Vice Chairman of the China Film Association, member of the China Film Corporation and member of the CPPCC National Committee. Yin is also a nationally recognized film director picking up numerous domestic prizes at the Golden Rooster Awards, The Hundred Flowers Awards, the Beijing Student Film Festival, the Shanghai Film Festival including the Shanghai Film Critics Awards and the Huabiao Film Awards. Yin's The Story of Xinghua (1994) was selected to screen at several international film festivals, including the Cannes International Film Festival, Montreal International Film Festival, Brussels International Independent Film Festival, Belgrade Film Festival and many others. It was also shown in over thirty countries across the world and was widely acclaimed by critics.

James Liu has been working in the film industry for more than 25 years. He was a film director and writer before starting up JOINT ENTERTAINMENT in 2005, which puts distribution, production and sales under one roof and collaborates with mainly independent filmmakers. Liu has produced For More Sun (2006), the Deauville Asian Film Festival nominated Keeping Watch (2007) and Sumimase Love (2008).

The Land of Hope (2012) by Japanese director Sion Sono marked his first international co-production effort. He has also played a role in consulting the central and local government on film policy. Currently, he is serving as one of the executive directors of the Taipei Film Trade Association and is a board member of The National Film Fund Committee.

NA, Un joo is an attorney and producer residing in New York City. She serves on the National Board of the Producers Guild of America New Media Council and has been developing interactive new media entertainment content with Emmy winning producers. Acting as a trans-pacific connector by bridging the gap between Asia and the United States, she also advises multi-national corporations on intellectual property matters and their business strategies. She is also developing a screenplay of her personal blog, NYDreamer.com, into a feature film.

JOAN MILLER

KULTHEP NARULA

Joan Miller began her career in 1993 working as a community liaison for the feature film The Scarlett Letter (1995). In 2001 she accepted the position of Regional Film Commissioner and became an active member of the AFCI. For the past seven years Joan has been the Chairperson for the AFCI's International Cineposium's and is presently the 1st Vice President on the AFCI Board of Directors. While the majority of the crew and infrastructure is based in Vancouver, Joan and her staff have worked diligently and have successfully attracted productions to their unique locations. Recent films include the Twilight Series, GI Joe Retaliation (2013) Superman, Man of Steel (2013), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) and Godzilla (2014).

Recognizing the integration of VFX, CG and Motion Capture happening on set during location filming and to keep abreast of how best to serve this dynamic community, Joan joined the Vancouver SIGGRAPH Chapter and is now on the organizing committee of SPARK CG Society.

Born to a Thai Indian family and trained in Thailand, India and the United States, Kulthep Narula is currently leading Thailand’s international cinematic advances. Initially exploiting the proliferation of the internet in 1996, Kulthep and his partners were responsible for Southeast Asia’s first internet café and were one of the pioneers of the Internet Management and consultant industry. After an accidental brush with a Bollywood producer and actor, he and his brother created Benetone Films in 2002. Since this relatively recent year, Benetone Films has since become one of Thailand’s leading Production services company producing over 550 commercials and 75 feature films. More recently, Kulthep and his company decided to start looking towards Hollywood to spread its business base. The first venture was a feature film titled A Stranger in Paradise which was shot in Bangkok in 2011. Having successfully completed the project, Benetone Films went on to establish Hollywood based Benetone Hillin Entertainment. Currently the company is co-producing Killing Winston Jones, a dark comedy starring Richard Dryfuss, Danny Glover and Danny Masterson. The company has also green lit a horror project which is in development and is to be shot in Thailand.

OH, Seok Guen Oh currently serves as the Director of the Busan Film Commission and President of AFCnet. His focus is on establishing a solid foundation for a pan-Asian production network system. As a part of this project, he founded film company Balcon Corporation in 2007, which discovers promising Asian filmmakers and offers distribution opportunities for the independent films. Oh produced the omnibus film Camellia (2010) with Korean, Japanese, and Thai directors. The film was selected as the closing film at the Busan International Film Festival in 2010. Oh was also the first general manager of the Busan International Film Festival which quickly rose to be the most prominent in Asia. Prior to this he worked as an assistant director and made his feature film debut with As You Please (1991) produced by the Film Factory Seoul.

He then went on to direct The 101st Proposition (1993). After a 10 year hiatus Oh directed Love is a Crazy Thing (2005) which screened at the Udine Far East Film Festival, the Gothenburg Film Festival, the Bangkok International Film Festival and the Tokyo International Film Festival.

RINO PICCOLO Rino Piccolo has had a dynamic career switching between roles as film commissioner, writer and film producer. He started of his career as part of the Actor's Studio in 1994 working with such moderators as Sidney Pollack. In 1998 he was one of the first to establish a film commission in Italy (Campania Film Commission) and supported international film productions such as Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999), The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) and Mission: Impossible III (2006), just to name a few. In 2001 Piccolo was appointed as the Italian Film Commission's and National Cinema delegate, founded the first Association of Italian Film Commissions and held the title of director of the AFCI. During this time he conducted seminars on 'film induced economy/tourism' and organized international film trade shows. In 2007 he was appointed as General Director of the provincial Latina Film Commission, worked to establish special film funds, liaised with film festivals and co produced successful feature film Razzabastarda (2012) directed by Alessandro Gassman. He currently serves as President and General Director of a southern Film Commission in the Italian region of Lazio.

DAVID SHEPPARD

Since 2005, Franck Priot has been the Chief Operating Officer of Film France, the French Film Commission. His areas of responsibility include creating relationships with foreign producers, and especially overseeing the tax rebate for international productions. He is currently spearheading Film France’s efforts to increase relationships with China. On the Western front, he is working with all the Hollywood majors . Prior to this, he worked for five years for the French weekly trade paper Ecran Total, covering French movie production and international markets, after several years as a film critic, producing and hosting a weekly TV show. In 2005, he published books on the financing of French productions, and synergies between the film and tourism sectors. For Film France, he is the key writer of its yearly guide, France: The Incentives Guide, and he is considered as an expert about the movie financing landscape, frequently quoted in the French media.

David is CEO of Open House Films in the UK and a founding partner of Film Commission Associates, a consultancy partnership specializing in forming and developing film commissions and media development agencies currently working on consultancy projects across the world. David has been a film commissioner for over twelve years in various cities. Most recently he launched the Abu Dhabi Film Commission and served as its first director. Prior to this, David held the position as Head of Inward Investment and Locations at South West Screen, a regional partner of the UK Film Council. He has also held positions as Chief Executive of Eastern Screen, launched Screen East and established the Bristol Film Office. David has worked in commercial TV production, live music and theatre production and also as an Arts and Culture Development Manager within UK Government Agencies. He’s currently Executive Producer of various film and TV projects for broadcast and theatrical release including setting up funding mechanisms and international co-production structures. David is also a Creative Industries Inward Investment specialist currently delivering growth strategy projects for the Creative Economy in different cities.

SASISUPA SUNGVARIBUD

Born in Tokyo, Japan 1943, Iseki Satoru is one of Japan's most prolific international producers.

Originally taken on in a publicity role at the international division of Nippon Herald Co. Ltd in 1965, with the establishment of Herald Ace in 1989 he was appointed as the Director and Vice President. During this time he established Nippon Film Development and Finance, and Hark & Co. in 2001, which handles development, planning and finance for young Asian talent. His credits include Howards End (1992), the David Cronenberg directed Naked Lunch (1993) Chen Kaige's Emperor and Assassin (1998), The World’s Fastest Indian (2005), Australian U.S co production Newcastle (2008) and U.S co production Rain Fall (2009). He was also production manager of Akira Kurosawa's Ran (1985) and producer of Wayne Wang's Smoke (1995) about the making of The 8 th Samurai feature in Tokyo.

A stalwart in the Thai film industry, Sasisupa Sungvaribud is the President of the Thai Producers Association and is the founder and is affiliated with the National Audio-visual Board and Foreign Film Production Services Association. She is also responsible for producing and line producing many successful overseas productions in Thailand that have helped boost the country as a tourist destination such as Japanese film Sayonara Itsuka (2010), Korean film Sunny (2008) and Rob Cohen directed Hollywood film Stealth (2005).

She has also provided professional production support on and acted as a producer on a variety of other TV dramas, commercials, documentaries, music videos, TV reality shows and other audiovisual related projects over the years since 2007. Prior to this she produced both domestic and international commercial films from 1990 to 1996 and has produced several TV dramas for Channel 3. Her continuing aim as President of the Thai Producers Association is to internationalize the Thai film production industry and contribute to the professionalism of all locations services in the kingdom.

Kenneth Tan is currently Assistant Chief Executive (Assessment) at the Media Development Authority, where he is responsible for the quality and performance of all content funded and facilitated by Singapore’s government agency for both regulation and promotion of the media industry. Chairman of the Singapore Film Society since 1984 as well as past President of the Association of Broadcasters (Singapore) and founding Board Member of the Singapore Film Commission, Kenneth previously helmed Village Roadshow’s Singapore joint venture companies (Golden Village Multiplex and Golden Village Pictures) as Managing Director, and led national broadcaster MediaCorp as Chief Operating Officer, TV / Chief Executive Officer, Radio. He has over 30 years of industry experience, and his frequent public speaking and panel moderating engagements have brought him all over the world.

Shogo Tomiyama is a stalwart producer in the Japanese film industry responsible for the Godzilla film franchise since 1989 and the release of Godzilla vs. Biollante . Starting his career at Toho in 1975, Tomiyama has promoted over 30 films such as Kagemusha (1980) directed by the legendary Akira Kurosawa.

In 1983, he became a producer in Toho Pictures, which is the studio production division of Toho and from 2004 to 2010 was the company’s president. He has produced 30 films including all 12 in the Godzilla series, Young Girls in Love (1986), Abduction (1997) and Red Moon (2004) which won numerous Japan Academy awards. In addition, he is currently the Secretary General of the Japan Academy Prize Association.

MAKO TANAKA

Born in Osaka, Japan in 1955, Mako Tanaka studied communications at UCLA in the US and ICU (International Christian University) in Japan. After 22 years of experience in television and radio production in Tokyo, Mako moved to Kobe in 2000 to establish the Kobe Film Office, which was the first Japanese film commission to become a full member of the AFCI. Mako became the first Asian film commissioner to be on the AFCI Board of Directors from 2001-2003, and became the founding board member and Vice President of AFCNet in 2004. She is currently the Director of Kobe Film Office, Chairman of Hyogo Location Network, and Vice Chairperson of Japan Film Commission, which is the national film commission of Japan with over 100 regional film commissions and governments as its members.

When Michael Uslan Executive Producer bought the rights to the first Batman film in his twenties, every company in Hollywood turned him down. He has now been with the franchise since the very first Batman In 1989 and accumulated a true, rags to riches story along the way. His work contributed to the birth of The Dark Night Trilogy Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Night (2008), which garnered 8 Oscar nominations and The Dark Night Rises (2012), all in all one of the most successful franchises of all time. He is also EP for the up and coming Batman VS Superman (2015). Michael Uslan is also responsible for writing numerous stories for the Batman comic book series as a writer for DC Comics, and has also published a memoir titled The Boy Who Loved Batman in 2011. Uslan is also a very sought after speaker and has appeared at seventy-five university since the franchise begin, the United Nations, and the Smithsonian Institution.

Teddy Zee is a film producer, technology executive and media consultant with 30 years experience in Hollywood. Zee's films have grossed over $2 billion at the box office. ZHANG, Yibai Zhang Yibai is one of the most significant filmmakers to have come out of China of late. Rather than sticking to the mould, he has worked as a producer, cinematographer and feature film, TV series, music video and advertising director. He has also acted in many films including Stephen Chow’s Kung Fu Hustle in 2004. His directorial works include Eternal Moment (2011), Lost Indulgence (2008), Curiosity Kills the Cat (2006), The Longest Night in Shanghai (2007) and Spring Subway (2002). He is the producer of Go Lala Go (2010) and he also holds the title of Senior Vice President at Beijing Galloping Horse Media Co., Ltd, which is a diversified Chinese media conglomerate involved in TV, film, advertising, cinema operation, animation, talent management and other related fields.

Conference & Accommodation Resources

Cheongpung Resort Cheongpung Resort is the official venue for AFCI Cineposium 2013, and is located between the picturesque Cheongpung Lake and the Wolak Mountain ridgeline. The resort is comprised of two hotels (Lake Hotel and Hill Hotel), and offers a variety of facilities and services.

UPON ARRIVAL IN KOREA The first stop for guests flying into South Korea will be Incheon International Airport. The airport is located 48 km (30 mi) west of the capital city of Seoul, and is connected to Seoul by subway lines.

Jecheon City is approximately 3 hours away from the airport by bus.

Once you retrieve your baggage and exit the arrival gate, our event volunteers will be waiting to take you to our airport information desk.

The airport information desks can be found right before you reach the airport exit, and are all individually numbered. You will be guided to desk #73, which is located near arrival gate F. Once you check in at the information desk, the volunteers will give you further instructions about your transportation to Jecheon.

Transportation will be provided to all guests for the 3 hour journey to Jecheon City. An official schedule will be announced closer to the actual event dates. You may have to wait approximately 1-2 hours to catch the next available vehicle. While you wait, you may want to check out the array of stores and restaurants at the airport. It is also a good idea to exchange your currency or look into renting a mobile phone while waiting at the airport.

Resom Forest Resort Guests electing to stay at the Resom Forest Resort are sure to have an unforgettable experience, nestled in the mountains surrounding the resort. Registration

Medical Services

Our registration Desk will be located on the second floor of the Cheongpung Resort Lake Hotel. The desk will be operated by volunteers, and will be the location where you can pick up registration materials and name badges.

There are a number of hospitals near the main venue, and there will also be a medical professional stationed at the hotel. We encourage you to bring any medication (prescription or over the counter) you might need, as pharmacies can be difficult to get to from Cheongpung Resort and Resom Forest Resort.

Guest Lounge A guest lounge will be made available during break times between sessions, with complimentary coffee and snacks. The lounge will be conveniently located in the hallways outside of the Conventional Hall of the Cheongpung Resort Lake Hotel (where all sessions will be taking place).

Internet Access/Business Centers

Currency and Credit Cards The Korean Won (KRW) is the standard currency in South Korea.

Although most establishments do accept major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard) in Korea, there may be times when you need to have cash on hand. As global ATMs and currency exchange services are very limited in Jecheon City, it is recommended that you exchange your currency before coming to Korea, or at Incheon International Airport.

Both Cheongpung Resort and Resom Forest Resort offer complimentary WiFi services in common areas. If you plan on using the internet or doing business while in Korea, it is recommended that you bring your own tablet PC or laptop. There is currently no business center at Resom Forest Resort, and the business center services at Cheongpung Resort are quite limited.

Cell Phone Rentals

Tipping

Mobile phone rental counters can be found on the arrivals floor (1st floor) of the airport. Rentals are available from different telecommunications companies. The rental fee is 3,000 won (about $3.00 USD) for the phone and 100 won (about $0.10 USD) for every 10 seconds for domestic calls.

International call rates are more expensive. The phones can be returned to the rental counter when you return to the airport to depart from Korea.

Tipping is typically not practiced in Korea. Although some employees at establishments frequented by westerners do not reject tips, you will not be expected to tip.

Volunteer Policy Cineposium 2013 volunteers will be stationed at the airport, on the shuttles, and throughout the conference hotel. The volunteers will be available to assist you during your stay in Jecheon. Volunteers will not be available to follow guests on any excursions outside of the conference grounds, and should not receive requests to do so. In addition, although our volunteers are committed to assisting you in any way they can, not all of them will be able to speak English to a degree that you might need.

Smoking Policy Smoking is prohibited inside the Cheongpung Resort hotels. Smoking indoors is still permitted in some public establishments in the country such as bars and some restaurants. However, an increasing number of restaurants and public buildings in Korea have been adopting a nonsmoking policy.

Water Water from the tap is safe to drink in Korea, but the majority of residents prefer to purchase water or drink from a water purifier. There are water purifiers placed on every floor of the Cheongpung Resort for your convenience.

Weather/Cineposium Dress Code The AFCI Cineposium falls in the middle of autumn which is the ideal time to visit Korea. At this time though, please be warned that although it can get quite warm throughout the day, it can also get quite cold at night. We suggest you bring a light jacket especially when we have outdoor events. In general, most parties will require only casual clothing. As for the opening reception, business casual would be sufficient.

AFTER THE CINEPOSIUM

Incheon International Airport For guests wanting to return home immediately after the conclusion of the Cineposium, shuttles heading to the airport will be provided.

Busan International Film Festival (BIFF)/ Busan International Film Commissions and Industry Showcase (BIFCOM) Transportation will also be provided for guests who wish to head to Busan after the Cineposium. Guests will check out of their hotel at 11:00 am on October 3rd to board shuttles for Busan. The drive will take approximately 5-6 hours. All guests will be dropped off at one of two locations – at a predetermined location at Haeundae Beach or Centum City.

Once arriving in Busan, any ground transportation, accommodations, and meals are the sole responsibility of the guests.

The festivities in Busan that surround the film festival draw a huge crowd every year, making it essential to reserve accommodations beforehand. If you are planning to check out Busan after the Cineposium, it is advisable that you reserve rooms prior to your stay.
