Plant Health Planner To help growers plan ahead and optimise plant health on their nurseries year-round, ICL has developed a ground-breaking new Plant Health Planner. Ground-breaking Plant Health Planner
New era
A digital web-based tool has been designed to both simplify and optimise plant health programmes on UK nurseries.
We have entered a new era for plant health. With an ever-diminishing range of available chemicals, growers are adopting a different mindset and a more sustainable IPM approach to keeping their crops healthy.
In line with the Sustainable Use Directive, our Plant Health Planner also helps growers reduce their reliance on chemical crop protection products.
Mobile Friendly
Cultural control is growing in importance again, as the first line of defence, followed by a programmed biological approach to boost plant health and control target pests and diseases. As a last resort, growers still have a small range of chemical products to fall back on.
Planned approach To be successful, it is key to have a planned approach! At the outset, we recommend growers meet their ICL Technical Area Sales Manager (TASM) to pinpoint the particular plant health problem areas on the nursery; likely time of year; crops impacted; geographical location of the nursery and products currently used to address the issues.
Plant health planner features Vine weevil – full season recommendations
Plant protection products
• Vine weevil control products - Vine Weevil Seeka - Vine Weevil Seeka CT – Cold tolerant - Pitcher GR

User friendly • Growers are able to access rates for products • Provides instant access to product labels and safety data sheets • User guides for products also available for download
More products will come online as the ICL portfolio grows and potential to be integrated with third party products to help growers create a one stop shop planner which can be used effectively on nursery.

Plant Health Planner
Armed with this information, ICL’s TASMs can identify and discuss any cultural improvements that could be made and develop an accompanying Plant Health Plan. Depending on the plant health issues identified, this plan might be for a limited period – say 12 weeks - or a year or more.

Liquid plant biostimulant
Hicure® is a liquid plant biostimulant (PFC 6) based on amino acids and peptides. Hicure® supports natural processes in the plant enhancing plant performance in general and especially under abiotic stress conditions.
ICL, in partnership with Syngenta Ornamentals, is delighted to introduce Hicure®, a revolutionary biostimulant designed to improve the shelf life and quality of ornamental plants. Hicure® can mitigate stress in plants resulting in a healthier and more vigorous crop, particularly towards the end of the on nursery life cycle. By increasing plant quality in this stage of a plant’s life cycle ensures plants arrive with the retailer in the best possible condition for sale.
Built from Amino Acids Amino acids are building blocks for proteins which play an essential role in the life of a plant. Under optimal growing conditions, plants synthesise their own amino acids through thousands of chemical reactions. Under periods of abiotic stress, plants decrease their production of amino acids and can even break down structural proteins to ‘recycle’ the required amino acids. A source of ‘ready to use’ amino acids means the plant won’t have to invest energy making them from scratch and the need to break down proteins is reduced.
Hicure® is a natural product which provides growers with a number of benefits when applied during the plant’s life cycle: • High level of safety • Stress reduction • Good compatibility with other plant protection products • Improved shelf life increasing return on investments
Hicure® can be recommended in to a plant health programme by your ICL Technical Area Sales manager.

Nursery trial Hardy Nursery Stock Trial ICL commissioned trials at Stockbridge Technology Centre in order to prove the efficacy of these products and their effect on plant health within Hardy Nursery Stock. Conclusion
The purpose of the trials is to build confidence in these new products and help advisers and growers to understand how these can be used to reduce their reliance on traditional chemistry which is in decline. ICL wanted to establish the effectiveness of Vitalnova Nursery products in activating and upscaling the plants on defences against disease pressure.
• Plants established well • Infection levels on untreated plants was significantly higher than other treatments • Chemical control programme provided best level of control • Both biostimulant products helped strengthen the plant in order for it to show signs of good fortification against incoming disease
The Treatments Treatments were applied as a foliar spray at a water rate of 500L/ha, via a single nozzle (01 80 VS Teejet). The spray applications were carried out using a Precision gas operated sprayer to maintain a 2 Bar pressure.
• Chemical control programme impacted on plant vigour • Biostimulants worked within an IDM plan to reduce chemical inputs and to increase plant health in disease situations • These products are not intended to replace plant protection products. Vitalnova Nursery products are there to compliment existing products in the market and increase plant health.
