Teenage Dream! Meet Annalisa Page 24

Ask Socratess To Be Thirsty Thirsty? Steps ToOr GetNot Your Be Dream Crush HELP! Hi Socratess, There is this guy who I have liked for a really long time and he has just recently noticed me. I saw him a couple of times at my friends’ parties this summer and our relationship hasn’t grown the way I wish it would; we are still in the “Hi” and “Bye” stages. Whenever I see him I really want to make my move and make it a little more clear that I am interested or at least show him that I have more words in my vocabulary other than “Hi” and “Bye,” but then I psyche myself out. I get to thinking that maybe he will think I am being desperate by walking over to him and initiating a conversation. Every time I think of doing something I immediately start debating with myself about how doing it would be thirsty! I am just really struggling with how to go about approaching/getting this guy. I would appreciate your input! Thanks, Katie.

Dear, Katie All hope is not lost, yet. But the way you are going, you are eventually going to sabotage yourself. You are going to talk yourself out of talking to him, seeing him and you will eventually convince yourself you are no longer interested just to pacify your fear of looking “thirsty.” At this stage of the relationship you barely have with this guy you are worried about the wrong things!

Email Questions: iamsocratess@gmail.com Instagram:iamsocratress Youtube: S0cratess Twitter:Iamsocratess Tumblr:iamsocratess.tumblr. com

Go For It!

When it comes to going after someone you want, it is extremely important to leave it up everyone to define what is thirsty and what isn’t, they will anyway. You don’t want to battle yourself over everything trying to decide if it is too much or too little. I do not mean run and ask everyone if what you are planning on doing is thirsty or not, because trust me, to everyone, every thing is thirsty. Smiling with your teeth open is considered thirsty by some. That’s how ridiculous that thought is especially when you barely know the person you want and when that person barely knows you. Don’t waste your time fretting over what is thirsty and what isn’t.

Don’t Wait By the time you get to your final decision, if you get to it, it will be too late, or you’’ll just talk yourself out of it or someone else would’ve stepped in. My advice to you is when you get the idea to walk over to him and start a conversation, or send him a text or a Facebook message, be nike to the bull and just do it! As long as whatever you say or do feels natural to you, it is not thirsty! Nervousness and fear will try to talk you out of doing things you want or know you have to do. In this case, you have all the reason and leeway to get to know this guy. He has already noticed you, you have already shared words. You want to say more than “Hi” and “Bye” to him? The only way to do that is to say more than “Hi” and “Bye” to him.

Flirt!

Talk To Them! As far as approaching him, you need to be more concerned about the difference in seduction and attraction. These are the two ways you can “get” someone. When choosing between which of the two to use in the beginning stages of getting to know someone, it is important to understand what your goal is. Do you want him to like you for who you are? Do you want him just because homecoming season is around the corner and you need a date? Do you want him to fall in love with you, the real you? Do you just want to make out with him? Once you get a handle on what it is you want then you can better decide what route to take.

Seduction, often involves doing research on your subject, plotting, and scheming the best way to get whatever it is you want from someone. Essentially, with seduction you are constantly finding ways to manipulate and take away the choice of someone from saying no, or doing what they want to do in good consciousness. It is the glue gun to all problems. But not everything can be fixed with a glue gun, at some point you are going to have to keep re-gluing whatever it is that is broken or opt to just really get to he root of the problem, fix it and if you can’t, get a new one (and repeat the cycle). If seduction is your only foundation, then essentially you are working with a base that can malfunction at any point in time. At some point you will get tired of constantly having to mask your true self and when that happens, the hurt and rejection you feared in the beginning are right around the corner waiting to finally be experienced, only this time with greater a vengeance. On the other hand, attraction, is simply about “doing you” and letting what comes around you be around you. In a way Katie, this guy is already attracted to you in the sense that he consistently notices and acknowledges you when he sees you. You did not have to do anything extra in order to get to that. By doing what is natural to you and being your best self, you give this guy the choice into wanting to get to know you, wanting to spend

time with you, wanting to stay with you and even wanting to be in a romantic relationship with you. With attraction you are an advocate for yourself, yet you do not rid the other person of their advocacy in wanting to choose you and stay with you. It is about putting your true self out there and allowing people the opportunity and choice to take the bait.

C hrissy remembers a time she onced battled Anorexia and Bulmia, but she

has overcame it, and now is a recording artist that has a EP out called, “Prosper Proficient”. Tweet her @CHRISSYVSQZ How did it all begin?

Saddest moment?

I always been overweight since elementary school to middle school until the end of eighth grade. People used to make fun of me and bully me. I hated school so much. I could always come to school with a fake smile, do my work and leave. When I came home, it was just hell. I hated every single thing in my life. I thought of sucide once or twice, maybe more. I just didn’t care for anything at all.

I came from the doctors one time, and my hair was falling out. I went downstairs to my mom, and I told her. I thought that she would care, but she told me that it was my fault, she told me that’s what you get. That moment made me sad because I never expected her to say that, I thought that she would actually care but she didn’t, She didn’t understand that what I was going through was in my mind. It was set in my mind that I was fat.

What was your daily routine? It started with working out for thirty minutes every single day. It slowly went into an hour everyday, then two hours, then four hours. I did eat alot when I first decided to eat, but then I slowly started cutting out things. Then I went into eating five hundred calories a day. Breakfast, lunch, dinner it was a piece of bread and fruit, then it kind of went into barely eating.I worked out alot. I dropped ten pounds a month just by doing that. How did you feel? I got obsessed with losing weight. I wasn’t happy at all. When I looked in the mirror I still saw fat not thin. I could go on the scale and I would cry. My life literally reflected on what I saw in the miror. Once during eighth grade.I was so hungy,I got sent to the nurse’s office. I was crying in my seat. She gave me some crackers and I threw them away. I went five days without eating. That’s when I discovered Bulimia, and when I did eat, it wasn’t much. I ended up throwing it up by the end of the day. I wanted to eat badly. I wasn’t happy. I was empty inside. I hated myself.

“ It was set in my mind that I was fat. ”

I was 110 pounds here.

Most teens have reported that they have been emotionally hurt by Social Neworks

My Life Is So Boring!

It’s a Friday night, and you are scrolling down your instagram timeline. You scroll

then stop. You suddenly see a picture of your friend at a party that you didn’t even know was even happening, and your heart drops. Suddenly you realize your life is less than fun. All of us have been there, we been through it. Social networks are a big part of our daily lives, most of us wake up in the morning check Instagram or Twitter and go back to sleep. We are addicted and sometimes we grow so emotionally connected to it. We have “twatched” someone or Instagram stalked and gotten our feelings hurt from it. If it were possible to see who viewed your profile we would all pretty much be out of luck, and very humilated. Affinity For Life takes you into the world of, “Emotionally Connected”

Emotionally Connected

Welcome To My Life

Instagram gives us this illusion that everyone has a perfect life (except those people who like to broadcast their stuggles.) Someone postes a picture of the new iPhone their parents got them, and you feel a ping of jealously. You think to yourself wow, my paren’ts would never get me that. That’s the problem, people pick and choose what they want the world to see. They rather you see them in their happiest rather than saddest. You have to realize that’s just the half of it.

Crushed

We all do it (don’t deny) but we twatch people on Twitter, and when Facebook was popular, we Facebook stalked also! You couldn’t resist spying on your crush, and sometimes you ened up just like that, crushed. You scroll down and see “your crush is now in a relationship”, and you drop that thun thun, but actually your heart drops, and you feel like it’s the end of the world.

Relationship Envy

Maybe the most annoyiest thing on Instagram is when couples post endless, puke worthy pictures that make you want to log off for probably the rest of the year, on the outside they seem so in love, but people love to keep up appearance, and show off. Every relationship has problems. You see the nice happy couple and sliently wish you had a relationship like that, but be carful what you wish for because you truly don’t know what’s going on, you could be wishing for a Rihanna and Chris Brown type relationship and you wouldn’t even know.

Good Idea Bad Idea

Twitter is one hundred times worse. You stalk your crush and you see him say, “I love #oomf”, your heart skips a beat and weirdly you feel like it could be you, although you have never spoke a word to him.So you stalk his old tweets, and see him tweet another girl. He says, “Can’t wait to see you tonight”, and your eyes pop out your head and zoom in. You click on the girl’s page, and you realize she is so pretty and feel compeltely like the ugliest troll in the world.

It’s true, social networks make you feel like dirt, Mean Girls 2, and Rob Kardashian. We wish for lives that we see on them, and things we see on them, but not all that glitter is gold. Who really shows they are NOT having fun on instagram, It’s all about whose having the most fun, and sometimes I think sitting in my comfy bed and watching Netflix is more fun than being out all night.

Pop Battle for The Love Club: Age Vs Voice By Grace Ghinger

Good Lorde!

The New Zealand native is just sixteen and already has a chart toping EP under the stage-name “Lorde.” The Love Club- EP is mature and Lorde’s voice is soulful and distinctive. In the first single, “Royals” which debuted at number 1 on the New Zealand pop charts, Lorde addresses how luxury has become a staple in popular music with lyrics like “every song's like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin' in the bathroom,” and then challenges this ideal with “we don’t care we aren’t caught up in your love affair.” This dark and honest song comes to a conclusion with the declaration “Im in love with being queen,” a phrase that is sung in a way that seems more fitting for a canticle than a pop piece. The powerful synth drums and harmonies make for an obsessive hit.

Check Lorde out if you like artists such as: - Kimbra - Florence Welch - Charli XCX - Sky Ferreira - Lykke Li

A Star Is Born At age 13, Ella Yelich O’ Connor was signed to Universal Records with a development deal. Now, three short years later, she is touring internationally while still attending regular high school.

Join The Club

Other songs on the EP such as “Biting Down” and “Bravado” highlight her pure, raw talent and commanding air. The Love Club- EP is flawless for a young one fresh on the scene; the lyrics flow and the transitions are effortless. Lorde naturally sings with a mature dark poise and vocal control that seems as though it could only come with experience. But then again experience is something Ella Yelich O’ Connor has very little of; a fact that is sporadically displayed in high school- esque lyrics. Yet, her style is addictive and catchy and her debut album, titled “Pure Heroine,” (expected at the end of September) is being anxiously awaited by fans all over the world including myself.

Music

Corner

Anyone that knows me, knows that I rave about

John Mayer any chance I get. You might have heard of him from his wildly infamous and addicting song “Your Body Is A Wonderland”. I love his music and the emotions he respresents behind them. Sometimes I find myself listening to his songs on repeat all night. Due to all the negative press he has been getting these last couples of years, people are overlooking his talent, and I strongly believe you should always seperate the artist from the music, but to me I love his whole appeal and the personality that is John Mayer. I’m gearing up for the release of his sixth studio album called, “Paradise Valley” in stores now. It is a far transition from his songs such as “Who Says” but a new improved sound. You can’t expect someone to make the same music year after year, as we get older our problems are dfferent, and the thing is with John Mayer’s music, there is a song for every problem you have. Trust me, his music has gotten me through the worse of times and probably the best of times. His latest album “Paradise Valley” boast an array of features that “Born and Raised” did not have. The features include, Katy Perry and Frank Ocean. I live streamed it and heard it before it was released. This is not a bias opioin but I loved the album, but It doesn’t compare to his earlier bodies of work. Look out for songs such as, “Paper Doll” and ”Wildfire”.

If you were as much of a 90210 fan as I, then you would already know who this is, but incase you don’t know. This Is Mack Wilds, formally known as Tristan Wilds. You might know him as Dixon on 90210 or Michael on The Wire. He has traded his script for a microphone and is set to release a new album on September 17 called, “New York: A Love Story”, It’s a ode to his home town of Staten Island,New York. He recently released his new single called, “Own It” that’s been playing in radio stations across the United States. If you are a fan of his acting then you for sure will be a fan of his music!

Majid Jordan

If you’re a hipster who is into The Weeknd or anything Drake co-signed then Majid Jordan is for you! They’re a band straight out of Toronto, they were formally known as Good People. You might have heard them on Drake’s new song, “Hold On We’re Going Home”. Their smooth voice and beats create a sound similar to The Weeknd. I highly recommend going on youtube and listening to their song, “Chill Pad Deluxe”.It will have you replaying all night.

! d e r i F s t Sho e g n e v e R s ’ k c i r d n e K It was a quiet Tuesday night, and all was good on Hip Hop street, until Big Sean released a new song, an exclusive song that didn’t make the final cut of his album, “Hall Of Fame”. The song was called “Control”. We all listened to Big Sean’s part, and all we heard was blah blah blah, then Kendrick started rapping. He compared himself to Emeniem, Jay-Z, Nas and Andre 3000, and we all thought that’s really bold of him. It’s great that he has so much self confidence until he decided to dig everyone’s grave and spit on it. He said, “But this is hip hop and they should know what time it is ,And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale,Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake,Big Sean, Jay electron’, Tyler, Mac Miller I got love for you all but I’m tryna murder you. Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you. They don’t wanna hear not one more noun or verb from you”.When you heard that you literally felt bad for everyone, you weeped for them. You imagined Big Sean hearing it in the studio and looking at Kendrick Lamar like when you about to ask someone if they want their food. That verse had hip hop in shambles. It had team light skin doing elections to get rid of their President Drake and Vice president J.cole. It had Wale writing a response in his bubble bath and it had A$ap Rocky canceling his hair appointment to go to the studio. Even Meek Mill whispered to himself, “Damn” which was a far change from his screaming like he is talking to someone in traffic. This verse created a new era of hip hop. At first I was mad because everyone knows I am an adament J.cole fan and it was so disrespectful, because lyrically J.cole is better, but this verse had rappers racing to the studio like Usian Bolt.We have so far heard disses from Los and Joell Ortiz . I’m sure more will follow as the coming days. This will give a chance to all irrelevant rappers to redeem themselves, I’m looking at you Chingy.

Teenage Dream Meet Affinity’s September cover girl!

Since you go to private school, what are the big differences between public and private?

What have youdone so far this summer? I just had sinus surgery actually! So nothing really.

Well the big difference is education and the one on one help. At public school because so many people attend them, the teachers don’t have time for one on one help, also the education is somewhat harder.

What is your career goal? I actually want to be a naval nurse! So I actually think I need to go to regular college and then the Navy.

What music do you find yourself listening to alot?

What trend do you really love right now?

I listen to variety, country,, hip hop, and Latino mostly.

Do you speak Spanish? I speak English, French, and a few words of Italian.

Hipster or Preppy look!

! ! g n i t a Humil Burn!

Like most teenage girls, my weight fluctuated in high school, and my senior year it fluctuated upwards (because I had access to a car and had found the most amazing Chinese food place on the far south side, seriously, the menu was like a novel). My friends and I were sitting in the college counseling center, and the topic of prom dresses comes up, and one of the girls says, “I found the perfect dress, except it’s too big. Diana, you’re good at gaining weight quickly — any advice for me?” - Diana

Mom?! One time on facebook I got a message from this lady asking if I was really a witch because I said I went to hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry and so thinking that this was a perfect chance to be funny I I lied to the lady and acted like a satanist and this went on for several hours until she started asking me personal questions and I got freaked out and it turned out it was my biological mother who I had never met trying to make sure I was okay and had been raised right by the people she had adopted me out to. - Jessica

Unexpected Visitor

“So I accidentally hit the 6th floor button instead of the eigth floor button and got out. And when I walked into the lounge I was like “hmmm… this is different maybe Wendy and Megan redecorated while I was at dinner.” So I just kept walking to the room that is in the exact same spot as my room and I just walked right in. It turns out that’s the room of the guy I like and he was sleeping and I turned on the lights and woke him up and he was just like “Hey?” I have never been so embarrassed in my entire life.” - Chelsa

Left Out

So this year mind you I liked this kid and I was basically obsessed with him though we only hung out like twice and he had a house party. So Monday at school I was talking to my friend and I said really loudly “THANKS FOR INVITING ME TO YOUR HOUSE PARTY, MEANIE!” because I thought we were alone in the hall but I turned around and saw him and we made the most awkward eye contact and he gave me the weirdest look before turning away and that’s why I will never have a boyfriend - Vanessa

OMG!

I was absent one day because I got sick and my group was looking for our project. It was in my locker and at the time there were no lock on it since it was elementary school. When they opened it up a bunch of pads fell out! I didn’t even know until the next day.-Stacy

I Talk Too Much!

I was sitting in the cafeteria with my friends when I decided to play a little joke on them. They all knew I was totally in love with this guy Brian, so I decided to tell them I was dating him. They stared at me in shock as I told them how he had called and said he loved me. The tale was really getting good when I heard a voice behind me say, ‘So, when did all this happen?’ I turned around and there was Brian!” - Angela

Oh Booger! It was my first date ever with a boy, and I had a slight cold. We went to a nice restaurant, and while we were eating our meal, I sneezed — and a huge booger bubble came out of my nose! It was awful, and it wouldn’t go away. I jumped up as fast as I could and ran to the bathroom with my hands over my face. After that, the guy never asked to go anywhere with me again. It was so horrible!

Happy Birthday!
