Fry’sFootie Corner
Well, here we are again. Lockdown part three, but at least, despite huge challenges, elite football can continue, and we hope and pray that we can finish the campaign without the need for PPG – we were burned before that route and we feel we are once again in a decent position for the challenging schedule that remains.
As you may have seen, we had numerous games called off over the festive period due to Covid-19 cases within our camp and also within the Doncaster camp. In all my time in the game, that is the first time I have not been involved in fixtures on
Boxing Day and over the New Year period and it was immensely frustrating for all.
I know first hand that this pandemic is incredibly tough to deal with. I tested positive back in November and it floored me. I was side-lined for quite a while and it was a tough fight, but given my medical history, that would come as no surprise to many. I am back and fighting fit and although I wouldn’t put myself up front this weekend, I feel I could do a job from the bench (!).
Of course, living through a pandemic in football provides financial challenges and no player at any club is not available for transfer and despite those challenges, the January transfer window was still an active one both within the EFL and the Premier League.
Speaking of the Premier League, it is nice to see a really open league this year. I guess most would not be surprised by that given the amount of games, Covid-19 challenges and of course injuries, but it is refreshing to see nobody running away with it.
At the top, Manchester United have provided a really interesting story because I don’t think anyone would have tipped them for the title, but consistency has proved key for them in the last couple of months whilst others around them have struggled to put a run of results together,
Liverpool and Chelsea included.

Chelsea spent a lot of money in the summer and with that outlay comes expectation. I am sure Frank
Lampard would have expected that. When you make as many changes as they have in personnel, it does take time to find a formula, but he is at a club where patience is not ever a virtue.
They, for me, have the best squad in the
Premier League with plenty of youth and experience to call upon from the substitutes bench. I am sure given time, Frank will get it right and if this isn’t there year, I am sure next term will be a better effort. Stay safe during this period.
