Volunteers Working in Food Security in FY 2020

The Peace Corps is a key partner in Feed the Future and the U.S. Government’s Global Food Security Strategy to address poverty, hunger, and undernutrition in over 40 countries worldwide. Each year10 since 2012, around 1,200 Peace Corps Volunteers contribute to the initiative by promoting community-led approaches that build local capacity of individuals and groups to address food insecurity and increase resilience at both household and community levels. The Peace Corps trains and equips Volunteers and their counterparts with context-appropriate and evidence-based practices and technologies that sustainably ensure food availability, accessibility, and utilization at all times. Volunteers from all six sectors use a variety of proven methods to implement food security-related activities that increase agricultural productivity, sustain and improve the natural resource base, improve health and nutrition, or increase economic opportunities, particularly for women and youth, in the communities they serve.
