Last week, a new tradition continued with the second Afford Employment Conference a great success. The conference was the first time that the Team met since DES, ADEs and TTW joined under the one brand, Afford Employment. Afford Employment provides a holistic approach to employment supports - the increased interface between the employment arms of our organisation means we are able to offer participants exactly the right support for them to Find and Keep a Job. The Team came together to discuss the fantastic future ahead for their business units under the revised Afford Employment brand. The conference was held at the Fairfield RSL and the atmosphere was a buzz with ideas and excitement on how Afford Employment will continue to grow and succeed with great leadership, partnerships and changes afoot. Being a proactive organisation was high on the agenda, with a focus on innovative ideas and growth under the NDIS. Paul Thomas led the charge, organising an informative and team building conference, with guest speakers Rex Eagle and John Fitzgerald from Given Australia, driving home some great tips on being a proactive organisation.

A big thank you to the two Rooty Hill High School volunteers, Taine Campbell Orbell and Memphis Carroll, who did a wonderful job helping out on the day.
‘The Crew’ Equipped to Ride On The Crew are very excited about the new arrival of their brand new TORO ride-on lawnmower. The new equipment will be a real time-saver and improve their efficiency on the job. It will be especially useful for the large areas of vacant land being maintained by The Crew as part of their Department of Housing contract in the Macarthur.

Strategy Under the Coconut Trees in Brisbane Last week, a group of Afford Employment managers attended the Disability at Work conference held in Brisbane. Afford was well-represented at the event where organisations from across the nation gather to share and learn. The theme of the conference was 'Unleashing Employment Opportunities' for both people with disability and organisations, and was incredibly informative around recent DES reforms and the continual development of Finding and Keeping a Job funding under the NDIS. Speakers ranged from other notable ADE providers such as Bedfords and social enterprises like Yarra View, as well as government bodies and innovators. The broad discussions provided perspective on where Afford Employment sits compared to interstate competitors and gave the Team an idea of how different organisations have approached opportunity under the NDIS. Efficiency, synergy and meaningful opportunity were key contributors to the success of other organisations, and gave the Team plenty of things to think about under that infamous coconut tree that our CEO, Steve, loves to talk about. Exciting times are ahead for Afford Employment!
