Staff Matters FARM, FRIENDSHIPS AND FUTURE PLANS FOR CHERRYWOOD

As an industry leading disability service provider it is part of our mission to provide innovative and life changing supports for our clients to enjoy. The Cherrywood Friendship Farm is one of our most unique services and a real point of difference for us within our industry. Cherrywood’s Friendship Farm offers an amazing animal therapy program that has been a popular feature at Cherrywood since being introduced 3 years ago and has attracted national publicity through coverage on Channels 9 and 10. The program is run by Dave Hollier from Bushbred Horse Assisted Learning Programs, who has done an amazing job at establishing a program that not only offers unique and memorable sensory experiences for clients, but helps to rescue mistreated animals. We are the only service provider in the industry that owns a camel, the famous Rocky – who featured on Sunrise and Studio 10 morning shows last year – and he is by far one of the most popular animals at the farm. Other animals on site at Cherrywood include a cow, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, roosters, guinea pigs, dogs, and more! The future plans for Cherrywood Hub are looking bright, with plans for an educational road safety track with cars and bikes to be built in the near future. “One of the biggest concerns for the safety of clients is road safety skills. Crossing the road safely and understanding road rules is extremely important to keep clients safe and something we value greatly,” reminded our CEO, Steve Herald. Watch this space to see the great things happening out at Cherrywood and don’t forget to book your site in to attend this exceptional program by contacting Wendy Stanley on 0466 015 711.

THE AFFORD LIFESTYLE SHINES AT HAWKSBURY GROUP HOMES On the 6th of May at the Neptune Crescent Group Home, we officially opened three Group Homes in the Hawkesbury region – 36 Stewart St, Windsor, 13 Neptune Crescent, Bligh Park, and 8 Mary Place, Bligh Park. It was a really important day where we officially welcomed 15 new residents into the Afford Lifestyle. Afford Group Homes are the best in the sector and drew the attention of the Hon. Paul Fletcher, Federal Member for Bradfield, Minister for Families and Social Services who was present to officially open the new Homes. "Living in an Afford home is about more than having a roof over your head, it’s about enjoying a Lifestyle – the Afford Lifestyle. Our homes are places that residents can call their own, develop friendships to last a lifetime, enjoy the freedom of living independently in a safe environment and also receive support to get out and about in the community and achieve their goals." - Afford CEO, Steve Herald. We look forward to hearing of the successes of the residents in these three new homes, as they enjoy all that the Afford Lifestyle has to offer.
