CARING ABOUT OUR STAFF

QUEENSLAND CONFERENCE – A RACING SUCCESS We had an amazing turnout to our Bi-Annual Frontline Staff Conference in QLD last week, held at the Mantra Legends on the Gold Coast. This year a whopping 148 staff attended the conference, which is an astounding number in our new market area. The attendance was more than double the number that attended only 6 months ago in January 2019, showing just how much we have grown in QLD.

There was a great energy at the conference with guest speaker Fiona Given, flying up from Sydney to talk about her lived experiences communicating with Assistive Technology. Staff were also excited by the Hot Laps with Mark Winterbottom voucher as part of the conference’s undercover recognition giveaway. Allan, Angela from Redlands and Maureen Brown chose the winners based on the ‘stand out’ their contribution and commitment. The well-deserving winners were: • Stanislav Fosu-Gyeambourq (LSA, Caboolture) whose wife gave birth to their 4th child but he remained to complete the full week’s training • Cassie Hicks (Senior LSA, Southport) for always being willing to jump in and help out without hesitation • Gail Imber (Senior LSA, Ipswich/Pimpama) for all the assistance she has given to Team Leader, Jenn Butler, during their sites’ massive growth surge • Josh Ziolkowski (LSA, Wellington Point) for showing the true Affordian spirit shown during Redland’s transition to Afford Thank you to all staff who attended, we hope you found the conference informative. We encourage any staff who have any questions following the conference or even ideas for Afford’s future, to contact info@afford.com.au.

Staff Matters EXCITING GROWTH - NEW ADE PARTNERSHIPS

Exciting growth, development and partnerships are being introduced across our ADEs. These changes include linking in with local businesses and organisations, to develop our clients’ social network, skills and employment opportunities. We are excited by our recent partnership with well known, multi-national company – Kimberly Clark Australia. KCA distribute a huge range of products, of which our supported employees pack in excess of 30 product lines for the below Brands: • • • • • • • • •

Kleenex Viva U by K Poise Depend Huggies Dry Nites Little Swimmers Pull-Ups

Last week 7 of our Ingleburn supported employees, Susan Guest and Gordon Griff enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to attend a hosted tour of the Kimberly Clark site at Erskine Park. KCA is now a major partner with Afford and will host 2 site tours per month for as long as it takes for every supported employee who packs a KCA product to get a chance to see where that product ends up at their Erskine Park site. This enables our supported employees to see the end result of their hard work packing Kimberly Clark products. It’s also an opportunity to highlight the size and operational workings behind KCA, with 36,000 pallet spaces, fully automated picks of over 400 pallet/hour and unloads of 25 containers a day. Supported employees are experiencing firsthand how important it is that pallets are packed correctly and squarely, as it can block the system at KCA if pallets are not straight. Seeing Kimberly Clark’s factory is important for our employees to see where the stock goes that we pack – giving them an understanding that they are working towards a bigger picture. KCA is a great fit for the Afford factories as work is ongoing, high volume, as well as light so anyone can pack it. They are a Blue Chip company with sales in Australia exceeding $1Billion AUD, and the products that our supported employees pack can be seen in any Supermarket or Chemist in Australia, which is very exciting for our team. What’s planned next for ADEs? We will have Bunnings visiting our sites in August so watch this space!!
