Page 3 With the introduction of the NDIS on the horizon AFFORD has completed a review of current IT systems. It was discovered during the review that both the current information system (ACED) and JIWA are not compatible under the NDIS model and it would be too expensive to adjust the systems to meet the new requirements. A tender process was then undertaken for a new system with more than 15 applicants, some from overseas, which were then narrowed down to 2 finalists. From the final two the clear winner was Liveware CIMsability as it was able to do almost everything on the AFFORD wishlist. It is easy to use, offers good financial control and is accessible from portable devices. It also offers an all in one solution covering finance, ADE and client services as part of the package. It achieves this by using Microsoft Dynamics NAV as its backbone, with real time rostering and award interpretation using Nav’s processing power. Their head office is in NSW with staff in the greater Western Sydney area which makes support so much easier. The Board has approved the new system and it is anticipated that it will be implemented by 1st November 2015 which will make life easier under the NDIS.

Renee’s Prestigious TAFE Award Renee Mclaren recently moved to Sydney and contacted AFFORD Employment to help her overcome some barriers she was struggling with. Amar Saboun, Renee’s employment consultant, worked intensively with Renee helping her work on building her motivation and also with practice phone interviews, resume writing and answering selection criteria. Amar also provided support and encouragement for Renee, while she completed a course at TAFE. AFFORD is proud to announce that Renee has won the coveted Institute Medal and the Business and Finance Faculty Student of the Year Award at TAFE. She was among 22 award winners honoured at an awards dinner last week at Bankstown Sports Club. Renee didn’t finish high school and said she has never completed a course before. Completing a diploma in Banking Services Management and winning this award has meant her career pathways have really opened up with the help of Amar. Anti Bullying at Condell Park Some of the customers from the AFFORD Condell Park Day Program recently completed the Transition To Work Anti Bullying Program which was funded by a youth grant received from Bankstown City Council. Run by TTW trainer, Di Lechner, the program consisted of 6 sessions completed over a 6 week period and covered topics such as What is bullying, The difference between bullying and instructions, What to do if you are being bullied and How to stand up for yourself and others. Di incorporates painting and craft as part of the learning process which is proving to be a success. Pictured on the right are some of the participants from Condell Park Day Program who are shown proudly displaying their certificates.

TTW Trainees enjoy morning tea Some of our Transition to Work Trainees enjoyed a morning tea at our Riverstone site to raise some much needed funds for the Cancer Council recently. As you can see from the photo they all dressed up in some colourful masquerade masks to celebrate the occasion. All the Transition to Work Trainees thoroughly enjoyed both the morning tea goodies as well as having fun spending some time together.
