AFFORD recently entered into an exciting 3 year partnership with HMAS Choules. The partnership means the vessel and crew will fundraise and allow us to work with them promoting the AFFORD brand and activities. Future AFFORD events are likely to include a cocktail party on board the HMAS Choules, client and family tours of the vessel and we will also have navy volunteers who will attend AFFORD events. The HMAS Choules (L100) is a Bay-class landing ship that served with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary from 2006 to 2011, before being transferred to the Royal Australian Navy. The vessel was built as RFA Largs Bay by Swan Hunter in Wallsend. Rhiannon O’ Brien and David Bell are pictured on a recent visit to the ship. AFFORD previously had a partnership with HMAS Kanimbla however the boat was decommissioned in 2012.

AFFORD Conference in July Last week the first AFFORD conference was held at Bankstown Sports Club in Bankstown. The conference was held over two days and the focus was all about the way ahead for AFFORD and its staff. These conferences will be held twice a year with everyone getting together as a team. It was great for many people to be able to put names to faces especially for those who don’t always have the opportunity to get out and about to all the AFFORD sites. Even those staff who had worked for AFFORD for many years got the chance to meet new people.

Then on Thursday morning it was back to the conference room for more activities, followed by pizza at La Piazza and then the final afternoon session. An enjoyable time was had by all who attended and everyone is looking forward to the next conference which will be held in January, 2016.
