Page 4 We are pleased to announce the launch of the AFFORD Customer Service Awards. We want to reward those staff who go above and beyond to delight their customers. Nominate someone now for the July award! The idea of the Awards is that staff can nominate a staff member they think has provided outstanding customer service in delighting our customers. This also includes internal customer service provided by HR and Finance. From these nominations, each month a winner and 2 runners up will be chosen. The winner for each month receives $250, second prize is $100 and third prize is $50. The judging for the prizes will be by a panel of 6 senior managers and your nominations need to be sent to HR. The monthly prize winners will also be considered for the amazing end of year grand prizes. These grand prizes will be well worth winning! For first prize the winner receives a trip for 2 to Hawaii, second prize is a trip for 2 to Gold Coast and third prize is a night at a hotel in the city (Sydney). So be on the look out for some great customer service and don’t let it go unnoticed. There are many unsung heroes who work for AFFORD who go above and beyond every day. Get involved and make a difference - next month it could be you that wins!

AFFORD Fact From the beginning of 1988, AFFORD’s Art Unions were replaced by Lotteries, still held four times a year. Fundraising activities continued to revolve around Lotteries, Appeals, the Cherrywood Cup and an annual Cherrywood Fete.

Something no one knows about me: I know three languages fluently and can read, write and somewhat understand a fourth

Kings Park Day Program recently held their very first cake stall fund raiser at Bunnings Prospect and it was a very successful day. AFFORD staff baked lots of goodies and a few parents kindly donated some cakes as well. The awesome Minions cupcakes went quickly and other goodies marched out the door! On the day AFFORD smashed Bunnings profit record for cake stall sales and sold $600 worth of products. What a fantastic effort! Thanks to everyone who donated cakes and all who helped out on the day. The customers at Kings Park Day Program will now get to decide on how the money raised will be used and what resources will be purchased. Kings Park will be holding another cake stall at Bunnings Great Western Highway, Prospect on Saturday 29th August and we urge everyone to come along and support the Kings Park team. Fingers crossed the next stall day will be even more successful!

Opportunity knocks at Belmore Last Thursday AFFORD were advised we had been successful in securing a long lease for a Community Hub in Redman Parade at Belmore. Robert Mauceri and Bruce Colwell have been walking the pavement for quite some time, trying to find an appropriate venue to relocate Lakemba Day Program which was bursting at the seams. From Saturday 1st August the Community Hub will be ours. There will be a few changes prior to the move including the addition of a commercial kitchen and change room. This an exciting opportunity for AFFORD and fantastic for the customers as it is a great site in a good location. Congratulations to all involved now to start packing the boxes! A big thank you to the Board for responding so quickly with approval to proceed with this outstanding opportunity.

LAPS

LAPS stands for Learning Activities Participation. These are the things that delight our customer every day and set us apart from our competitors – the service we provide. The following describes what LAPS is all about. Learning - this can be learning about healthy foods and exercise Activities - attending cooking groups and fitness classes Participation - preparing meals or assisting in Group homes or day programs The S stands for support in these everyday activities AFFORD staff can use their own expertise or receive further training for activities such as music, cooking, woodwork, computers and massage. Staff can then bring these activities into the workplace at the Day Program site and engage our customers in activities without having to organise external providers who may not fully understand the needs and challenges of our customers. This can also make the day more fulfilling for staff as they will have the opportunity to receive training which will allow them to participate in their own interests during work time and also to share their knowledge with other staff and customers during their workday.

Possable Ideas Expo Last Friday and Saturday, AFFORD was a participant at the Possable expo which was held at Penrith Panthers. The idea of the expo was to provide linkages between soon to be NDIS participants (0 to 17yrs), families and carers to services within the Nepean, Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury regions as part of the rollout commencing 1st September 2015.

Thousands of people attended the expo and the AFFORD team had a stand and had the opportunity to speak to many people about the services AFFORD has to offer. This was an important event in the calendar so thanks to Angela Wilkinson, the AFFORD team who helped her in organising it, and all the staff who helped out on the day. Angela, Helen Berridge and Tammy Mills all had a huge day at the Expo.
