Page 2 AFFORD prides itself on the training it provides staff and this will continue to be an important part of the future. Moving into NDIS, there is a need to transition from good to great and provide a range of training courses that would be easily accessible 24/7 to all staff. We are therefore proud to announce the commencement of our new project - ELMO Talent Management eLearning platform. ELMO is an interactive e-learning program which assists staff to understand policies and the correct application of procedures, guidelines, tools and templates. It delivers cloud-based Talent Management solutions used by leading organisations and they deliver best practice insights derived from over 13 years of experience working with HR teams from a diverse range of organisations. ELMO services more than 500 customers and 2 million users. They serve organisations of all sizes, across more than 25 industries in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia and are a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). All solutions are hosted by ELMO in Australia and New Zealand. Some of the benefits of using ELMO eLearning include an easy to use course builder, they are multi device compatible and have customised reports. There will be further information sent out about this platform in due course.

AFFORD Fact In 1985, as a result of a review of services for people with disability, the Department of Community Services encouraged a change of attitude to the disability issue and the services provided, and as a result the workshops previously known as Sheltered Employment Enterprises, adopted the less discriminatory name of FODI Industries.

Many AFFORD Day Programs and Transition To Work customers took to the stage on the evening, with performances of songs such as ‘Livin La Vida Loca’, ‘’Dancing Queen’, ‘Say Geronimo’ and ‘We Will Rock You’. AFFORD Mt Druitt and Penrith Day Programs featured group acts ‘Grease Lightning’ and ‘Let’s Get This Party Started’ which were fantastic. The event is designed to offer AFFORD customers along with their parents and carers a fun evening that allows them to celebrate their individuality and express themselves through song and dance among their friends. Many of our customers look forward to this event all year and have a ball getting up on stage and performing to an audience. They really put in a lot of practice in readiness for their performance. Thank you to everyone involved in organising the event and also to those who attended to show their support on the night - we all look forward to next year’s event. There is no doubt AFFORD definitely does have talent!

Spencer Speeds to Work One of our Transition to Work trainees, Spenser Colbran recently received a bike from the Riverstone Men’s Shed in order to help him get to his work experience placement. It was identified that Spenser needed a bike to be independent so he could travel to his work experience placement as a cleaner at the AFFORD Jamisontown Day Program. A phone call to Don at the Riverstone Men’s Shed and Mick and the guys had a bike ready for Spenser, even supplying a spare front tyre. This is not the first bike supplied free of charge to TTW trainees and is a great example of a wonderful partnership and mentoring program. As you can see from the photo, Spenser really loves his bike and is thoroughly enjoying his newfound independence. Pictured Right - Spenser with his new bike
