Recently AFFORD received a total of $6,100 from Bankstown City Council in the Community Grants Program for 2015-2016. The cheque was presented to Paul Mitchell from Condell Park Day Program by the Mayor of Bankstown, Linda Downey. These funds will be utilized for many community activities such as social outings and sporting activities for many people with disabilities. Bankstown City Council are great supporters of AFFORD and over the years they have enabled AFFORD to provide many great social activities and community participation opportunities to our customers, greatly enhancing the quality of life for these participants and their families.

One of our ICBM clients, Nathan recently had the opportunity to enjoy a horse and cart experience. Narelle O’Kell, the staff member who works with him, is the president of RDA (Riding for the Disabled) Nepean and is able to provide exclusive access for Nathan to enjoy this experience. Nathan does not cope well in crowds so having this exclusive opportunity has given him time to familiarise himself with the property. Nathan has now chosen to volunteer for RDA on weekends and is also willing to experience crowded situations because of the love he has now developed for riding and caring for the RDA horses as a result of this great opportunity.

Mater Dei Dinner AFFORD staff recently got all glammed up to enjoy a night out last week at the Mater Dei School Foundation Dinner at The Cube, Campbelltown Catholic Club. AFFORD were Bronze sponsors at the event which was attended by over 900 people and raised $248,000. The fabulous Daryl Braithwaite and his band provided the entertainment which included popular hits such as ‘Howzat’, ‘The Horses’, and ‘As the days go by’. A big thank you to all the staff who attended to support AFFORD on the night - everyone looked fabulous. Pictured above: Some of the staff who attended the dinner looking very glamorous

Cherrywood Create Art Masterpieces Over the last few months a group of customers at Cherrywood have worked on a very important art project. Customers worked on an art project to create an individual art piece that they will be able to proudly display in their new group homes at Thornton Estate. A ceremony was held on the 27th August to celebrate the completion of their art masterpieces with their families invited to join in the celebrations. Steve Herald also attended to present customers with their certificates. Some of the artworks were really fantastic and there are definitely some budding artists amongst the customers at Cherrywood. Customers who participated in the art project included Daryl Buckley, Ken Richards, Andrew Bryson, Jodie Stitt, Toby Roberts, Mark Tassaker, Lynette Murray, Kim Wright, Wesley Groves, Laurie Camilleri, Steven Sardelic, Stanley Quarmby, Colleen Wall and Michael Tierney. Pictured above top: the artworks on display and bottom: the customers proudly display their certificates
