CARING ABOUT OUR STAFF AFFORD REWARDS YOU THIS CHRISTMAS

As an Employer of Choice, Afford is always looking for ways to reward staff achievements, recognise exceptional staff efforts and celebrate success. One of our most rewarding Employer of Choice initiatives launched last year is the Afford Rewards program. With such great promotions and benefits available for staff to save money on everyday purchases, we also decided to extend the program to carers earlier this year. So, Affordians with Christmas right around the corner now is a great opportunity to log into your Afford Rewards account and do some Christmas shopping for your loved ones! Afford Rewards gives you direct access to discounts and deals across a range of products and services from a variety of businesses and retailers, which can potentially save you hundreds of dollars this silly season. You can even use your Afford Rewards for Christmas food shopping, save money on your Christmas turkey or ham by shopping at Coles or Woolworths and using your app to purchase a voucher with the discount applied.

ALLIED HEALTH HYDROTHERAPY IN THE HUNTER

Afford’s Allied Health team is always growing, and so is the industry demand and requests for a range of therapy options. So at our 1st ever Afford Allied Health Conference, the team decided to jump in the pool to learn practical hydrotherapy skills. Nicole, one of Afford’s Occupational Therapists, took the lead as she has completed training in hydrotherapy and is also an ex-competitive swimmer. She has a passion for swimming and proposed that they hold a training session in the hotel pool. The team were on board and dived right into the training before the conference! The group met in the early hours of the morning at 6am on the last Friday of the conference, in the hotel pool at Voco, in the Hunter Valley. The idea was to share the knowledge between Afford’s Allied Health teams and develop a hydrotherapy program that can be run by Afford. Nicole is currently building a hydrotherapy program in Queensland, so it was a fantastic opportunity for her to skill sharing between our multidisciplinary Allied Health team. The team covered a huge overview of topics and water confidence building games such as: Pool safety Pool rescue Practical hydrotherapy techniques, including: How to support people with a disability in the pool Relaxation – “seaweeding” Building core strength How to stand someone in the pool, who cannot stand on land Balance Banana boat games Whirlpool Currently, Hydrotherapy is being run by Nicole, Occupational Therapist in QLD by appointment, where she can conduct swimming assessments for clients wishing to attend swimming during Day Programs. She also provides upskilling opportunities to Lifestyle Support Assistants with specifically tailored water programs. It is great to see in the Afford Way, our staff sharing their skills and knowledge which each other to continue to be the best provider in the industry!

Staff Matters CLIENT CHRISTMAS CHEER IN NSW

Our wonderful Sydney clients from day programs in the Far West, Central West, South West and Central East got to join in on the Christmas spirit last week as they attended the Annual Afford Christmas party! Held at the CUBE at Campbelltown’s Catholic Club, over 600 attendees came and celebrated the festive spirit. The highlight of the event included a DJ, dancing, photos with Santa and a delicious Christmas feast. The celebration featured festive decorations, with large blow-up inflatable decorations, balloon makers, face painters, music from the DJ, karaoke with Santa and presentations of client of the year. It is important as we have grown so large in Sydney that we split our client parties over a number of days to ensure everyone can be invited and it is a safe and fun event for all. Christmas parties are so important for several reasons, for our clients they offer a great opportunity for them to connect and make friendships with people from our other Day Programs and services. They allow opportunities for expression through dance and are overall a fun and inclusive environment for all. Merry Christmas all!
