Page 3 • Police Check Coming Up • Turning It Up at Green Valley On Saturday 10th October AFFORD attended Western Sydney’s Walk of Hope day; showcasing the wonderful activities our customers take part in our programs. With a display of paintings, candle packs, bath salts and woodworks AFFORD were a big hit, showing how innovative we are as an organisation. Members at AFFORD who attended a function with Parramatta City Council and NFP groups yesterday were very proud to be sporting an AFFORD logo on their chest after been given great feedback from the day. Councils GM stated in front of large crowd that “these are the guys to watch - they are leading the disability market and offering programs and initiatives that others have been talking about for years”. A big thank you goes to Helen, Tori, Laura, Mirela & Wayne who were involved in making it a special day for AFFORD and to the Windsor site who received a bonus $119 selling the great products made by the customers in our day programs.

Police Check Coming Up As you all may know working in the disability sector, we have an added responsibility towards people with disability and protection of their rights. It is an important part of processes to ensure every staff member undergoes a police check renewal every 3 years. This is a standard process and this year we will be conducting a bulk police check for all staff hired prior to October 2012 to ensure our records are up to date. This initiative will take a few weeks to complete and will require staff cooperation and assistance. A detailed process of how this will work will be emailed. Staff requiring these checks will be emailed a link to complete the details for the check. 100 points ID will be required to complete the process. All the checks will be reviewed to ensure they are acceptable and there will be low tolerance for any unsatisfactory checks. For any further assistance please ring Nicole in HR.
Turning it up at Green Valley Green Valley Day Program recently received $4000 from Liverpool City Council for their dance and culture therapy program and as a result of this grant; our customers were able to purchase a new disco machine. The new lighting and sound allows our customers to have more fun at great in-house disco and cultural dance events. Clients at the Green Valley Day Program love using the new equipment which really improves the atmosphere at these events and encourages everyone to sing along to the music as well. Liverpool City Council are great supporters of AFFORD and have enabled us to improve great social activities and community participation opportunities such as these for our customers, greatly enhancing the quality of life for these participants and their families.
