In this Issue Page 1 • Get Ready To Learn In ELMO’s World!
Time flies! It’s been almost 2.5 months since the announcement of Afford’s “Talent Management System –ELMO”. As we move toward our goal of being an Employer of Choice, this is another benefit that we have developed to enhance the skills and knowledge of the Afford staff. We are excited at the endless opportunities the E-Learning modules can give each and every one of you. ELMO is a 2 phase roll out: Phase I: E-Learning and Phase 2: Performance Development Review (PDR).We can proudly announce that after tireless back end configuration, set up and review of 100’s of courses by various subject matter experts (SMEs) within AFFORD, we are in the final stages of Go Live (17 November) and rolling out E-Learning side of ELMO. There are approximately 58 courses that will be available to all staff next week with more being added as they are finalised. There will be some mandatory courses for various employee groups to ensure that the relevant people are equipped with the knowledge they may need to perform their job effectively. Not all courses will be directly relevant to your role however, we would like all staff to have access and the ability to complete courses they wish to and add to their knowledge. They are relatively quick courses with a short assessment to be completed at the end of the module. Upon successful completion by achieving an 80% pass mark you will be issued with a ‘Certificate of completion’ against the course. You are able to keep this for your records. The team is still working on reviewing courses and publishing them on an ongoing basis. Yes there are more amazing courses to come!

AFFORD Fact
In 2001, the Australian Foundation for Disabled modified its name to “Australian Foundation for Disability” (AFFORD) to reflect the intention to provide services and to support significant initiatives in the Disability Sector across All staff can expect to receive emails by Tuesday morning. If for any reason you have not received your login details by COB Tuesday, 17 November please Australia. 2001 also saw the contact Nikita in HR. introduction of a new logo and image . Good luck and happy learning! Important: The team is currently building a highly informative ‘Site Induction’ course that will be completed for every single Afford site. This is a mandatory course for every staff member. As the Site Induction courses are designed for each site they will be rolled out. This will give us confidence that staff can perform shifts at any site once they’ve completed their induction. This will be especially relevant as we move toward the NDIS.

Recently clients from our Condell Park Day Program hosted a stall for Pink Ribbon Day at Bankstown Hospital to raise funds for the cancer council. This year our clients continued their strong support selling a variety of gifts including balls, pens, teddy bears and treats raising over $1200 for the cancer council. As you can see from the photos to the right our clients love volunteering for such an important cause and providing a valuable role in the local community. A huge congratulations goes to clients Olivia, Richard, Hala, Susan, Liliana, Zaid and Jake for their big efforts hosting the stall and to all staff involved for organising the day.
Staff Treated By Afford Masterchefs
What is your dream holiday destination: Hawaii If you had the power what would you change about the world: Everybody would treat one another how they would want to be treated…. Realistically. What is the nicest thing someone has ever done for you: My son spent his own money and brought me a massage voucher for mother’s day last year. I cried my eyes out when he gave it to me. It is something I will always remember….. If you had to teach something what would you teach: Manners Something no one knows about me: I have just bought my dream house.
Every Friday morning, Minchinbury employees prepare food for the Friday debrief meeting in our head office as part of our Healthy Lifestyles initiative. The employees love preparing and cooking delicious food such as fruit platters, cheese platters and as quoted by CEO Steve Herald ‘the best sausage rolls in Australia’, for all our AFFORD employees also giving them the opportunity to meet our friendly staff. For any catering requirements or to place an order please contact Kerry Hutchison or Maureen Learmonth on 8805 3782. Keep the delicious food coming!

Belmore Lifestyle Centre Makes The Big Move! On Monday, 26th October 2015 Belmore Day Program welcomed the beginning of a new chapter with the opening of the Belmore Lifestyle Centre. After almost fifteen years of operating at our Lakemba Day Program and with the increased demand for quality service, the program had outgrown the site. This paved the way for a long and arduous task in search of a new premise. Finally, in July 2015 the Belmore Day Program came across a property and submitted a proposal to Canterbury Council and were successful with the tender process and secured a lease in a highly competitive market. Thus commencing planning for the gradual transition of 45 customers (some of whom had come to know Lakemba DP as their second home), a team of 12 staff, and years of accumulated resources to Belmore within a 3 month timeframe! It is a testament to the Belmore Team who encountered unforseen circumstances and yet worked tirelessly to achieve such a mammoth task. The Team’s commitment, perseverance and focus ‘on the big picture’ is to be commended.
