Page 4 Since the beginning of our new brand launch in December Afford’s bright colours and design have started to pop up all through our sites and even on the roads. New signage at our Canley Vale sight has received a great response and clients love seeing the bright colours all the way from the road as they approach the Day Program. Parents love the excitement it brings to their child when dropping them off also stating how clear and easy it now is to recognize this site as you drive on near-by roads. With more rebranded vans currently going in and out of the shop our new logo seems to be everywhere all over NSW roads, creating a lot of interest from passersby of our company and the services we provide. We look forward to more positive feedback in the near future, as our new signs and vans start rolling out to all our sites.

Campbelltown Crew Open For Maintenance
Campbelltown clients have been able to purchase environmentally friendly battery operated lawn mower & whipper snipper and are now doing their own lawns in a new program ‘MAINTENANCE CREW’. This program develops the clients independent living skills as well as team work, comradery and boosting their self-esteem, also learning about time management and planning. Our clients have gained a real sense of ownership and pride. As a part of the ‘Maintenance Crew’ program the clients do Car-Detailing (washing the site vans) as well any other odd jobs that need doing around the centre. They have had many requests from other day program sites to come and mow their lawns in such short time!
Guildford Masterpieces First Choice
If you had the power what would you change about the world: Greed What is the nicest thing someone has ever done for you: My nan is a fulltime baby sitter for my children so I can work. She is the most amazing person ever and just her being my Grandma is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. If you had to teach something what would you teach: How to make money on the stock market, but fist I would have to learn it. Something no one knows about me: I grew up with horses and participated in ponyclub from age 6-18 even winning contests in show jumping and cross country at yearly Jamboree.
Recently Our Guildford Day Program attended the Holroyd City Council Art Competition at Holroyd Exhibition Centre, winning the Staff Choice award. With over 60 people in attendance at the presentation including Holroyd Mayor Gregory Cummings, Disability Service Officer for Holroyd City Council Paul Spiteri Guildford accepted the award receiving a warm round of applause showing off the 5 masterpiece paintings made by our clients at Guildford, using all different techniques to create their artwork. Guildford manager, Allan Sio, was smitten with the great job shown by all our clients, in particular Don and Yvonne for the fantastic effort they put into this competition. They all later celebrated their achievements over a nice spread of food and drinks at the event, provided by the Holroyd City Council.

Lynette, Afford’s TTR Superstar
Afford TTR program provides our clients with the opportunity to participate in a number of activities they have a passion in while meeting new friends who share similar interests, as they ease out of work and into retirement. Lynette Campbell-Cowie is one of these clients, after working for 16 years as a dedicated supported employee at the Afford Preston’s factory. Lynette’s social network, outings and daily purpose for many years had centered on her role in the factory and she had not considered what she may do when the time came for her to finish work all together. In 2013, Lynette was introduced to the Afford Transition to Retirement Program. Her Transition to Retirement Coordinator helped her join community groups and activities, connecting her with the people that share her interests. Since then Lynette has become very active in her local community from being involved in a weekly art and craft class where she also helps out with morning tea to volunteering once a month to clean and take care of the Fairfield Indigenous Flora Park. The flora park is one of the few remaining examples of Cumberland Plain bushland, which is now listed as highly endangered. Her love for helping the environment has earned this Afford superstar a spot in the recent Fairfield advance newspaper, where she talks about her role in keeping the precious land in Prairiewood healthy. When asked where her love for the environment came from she stated “I got my green thumb from my parents because they loved being in the garden. I don’t mind getting my hands dirty. I’ve got my own little area to clean up and working in the garden brings me closer to paradise. I realise you’ve got to get out there and play your part”. This is one of many great examples of how our Afford TTR program provide many activities to get our clients out of the house and experience new things, not only bettering our clients life after work but also, in this case, the local community and the environment.
