Page 4 As we endeavour to be better recognised as a disability service provider in the Macarthur region, Afford pulled together a team of 28 people not including 4 unregistered children to participate in the 2016 Campbelltown City Challenge Walk event which started bright and early on Sunday morning. The 6 kilometre walk aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and in doing so brings the community together. Everyone who attended had a great time participating in the challenge and as you can see from the photos above were very proud to be showcasing Afford wearing designed shirts along with many Afford goodies including drink bottles and hats. A special mention goes out to our two amazing young ladies, Kristelle Lagoutaris (TTW supported employee) and Melissa Huntsman (Campbelltown CP client) for competing in the challenge walk and to all staff who attended.

Taylor Murray, TTW’s Comic Book Queen
As a child graduating from school can be one of the most frightening things to occur, especially if you don’t have much of a plan about what you do when you leave. For our Afford Blacktown TTW client, Taylor Murray, leaving school was the start of her adventure in what looks to be a wonderful career in comics. Taylor has always been a big fan of comics since she was a little girl and one day aspired to develop comics of her own. Taylor decided that she would turn her nervousness for life after school and turn it into her very first comic. As you can see from the picture on the left Taylor’s passion and talent for comics is easy to see with a great deal of detail in her artwork equally matched with her own unique view and experiences in the story line.
Afford Eat NDIS For Lunch
This is one of many great examples of the kind of talent we have here throughout Afford and we encourage everyone to strive towards their passions and to use their great talents. We look forward to showcasing more great work, such as this from Taylor and everyone at Afford in the future!
Blacktown and Kings Park Day Programs held a Carers Support Group lunch to coincide with the NDIS Roadshow held for the parents and carers of the two sites thanks to funding from the Carers Together initiative. The event featured a PowerPoint presentation followed by an informal question and answer session. Participants had a lot of questions especially relating to their circumstances and how best to move forward. A tasty lunch spread followed with everyone eager to catch up and others getting to know each other, parents and carers expressed delight at the support they are receiving from Afford in preparing for the NDIS and the opportunity to partake and network. The participants had a great time discussing matters of common interest and new developments including the NDIS, we look forward to hosting more events such as this for our carers in the future.

Afford Getaways Embark On A Zoofari Adventure This week afford getaways set off on an two day safari adventure at Dubbo zoo. 11 participants made up from internal and external clients set off by train on Monday at 8am returning Wednesday 9pm. Our new Afford Getaways program is proving to be such a success with this trip seeing our first family member, sister of a client book, come along with her brother. This provided the option of a family/sibling getaway but with the option of the two still being able to explore different interests on the trip and the sister knowing her brother was in trusted hands. The group got the full camping experience sleeping in safari tents on site inside the zoo and enjoying camp fire stories and exclusive night access to the zoo. They awoke each morning to the sounds of the animals, and enjoyed delicious bush tucker bbq’s. This is just another example of how our clients are being supported to try new and exciting experiences and live life to the max, also providing flexible and out of box thinking to traditional care models and opening new opportunities of independence not just to clients but also to their families that are provided a respite effect whilst their loved ones are on holidays.
