Page 4 Minchinbury Head Office reception and meeting room underwent a big makeover recently as we continue to rebrand with our new logo. The new look required a few days of repainting the walls followed by a lovely new interior design including furniture, pictures, a mesmerising wall frame and our brand new 3d wall logo. All staff who have visited our reception and meeting room recently are immediately drawn to the vibrant logo on the wall and love the change of bright colours, cranes and lovely pictures greeting them as they enter. As we move into the final stages of rebranding please contact Luke Jenner on 8805 3726 or via luke.jenner@afford.com.au or Michelle Flynn on 8805 3763 or via michelle.flynn@afford.com.au if you require any changes to signage or promotional material for your site.

Minchinbury ADE Training Room Open For Business!

After many years, the Minchinbury Factory now has a dedicated training room on site. The training room has been set up as a comfortable learning environment for supported employees to undertake their Cert 1 in General Adult Education – a qualification they are completing through Afford’s partnership with Nepean Community College. 10 supported employees are going through the program and absolutely loving it! The new training room means that employees can participate in classes in a quiet environment rather than the busy lunchroom. This will ensure each student maximises the benefits of their learning. The training room will also be used to deliver computer classes and other in house training for supported employees. The Minchinbury factory training room is the beginning of the ADEs transformation towards the NDIS. It will give employees a dedicated venue to partake in Vocational Training. Building on our concept of developing Social Enterprises, ADEs will also have designated sections for Work Experience to broaden the scope of those we can support under the NDIS. Employees can’t wait to begin classes in the new room!

NDIS Mailbox Reminder

For any questions or queries regarding the NDIS please email NDISQuestions@afford.com.au and we will endeavour to answer them the same day.

Penrith Perfect Cooking In Oliver’s Kitchen Recently Penrith Lifestyle Centre took part in a Jamie Oliver 8 week cooking class ran each Wednesday at the Jamie Oliver kitchen Wetherill Park. The class was generously supported by Penrith City Council who subsidised the program at a cost $5 weekly per person while also providing our clients with transport to and from class each week. Clients Drew, Damara, Rachel and Cameron with support of staff member Joseph joined the class which provides our clients with an opportunity to further develop their independent living skills whilst being out and about in their local community. As a result of the class Drew has now taken an interest in cooking at home, trying to now offer assistance to Mum at meals times to learn more. Mum was thrilled with Drew’s development as he has never been one to like to help out in domestic duties and is now taking a keen interest in showing off his MasterChef skills at home. We would like to thank Penrith City Council for graciously supporting our clients throughout the 8 week course, bettering the quality of life for our clients and their families.
