Every Friday morning, Minchinbury employees prepare a variety of delicious food for the Friday debrief meeting in our head office as part of our Healthy Lifestyles initiative. The employees love preparing and cooking delicious foods every week such as fruit platters, cheese platters and as quoted by CEO Steve Herald ‘the best sausage rolls in Australia’, for all our Afford staff also giving them the opportunity to meet our friendly staff. On top of these wonderful platters, this week staff were also treated to a scrumptious surprise cake made by our supported employees, to wish Assistant Accountant, Ruchi Desai, the best of luck with the new future edition to her family. Staff were blown away by the bright colour design and delicious taste of the cake, asking if the employees can make this every week as a new edition to the Friday meeting platter. For any catering requirements or to place an order please contact Kerry Hutchison or Maureen Learmonth on 8805 3782. Keep the delicious food coming!

On Thursday April 28, whilst out on a travel training activity, Mount Druitt Lifestyle Centre visited the Blacktown branch of Ray White Real Estate for a picture opportunity which was a request from client, Steven. Steven is so proud of the picture, that he has had it framed and reports from home indicates that he is still smiling long after the picture was taken. We sincerely would like to thank the whole Blacktown Ray White team and Congratulate Steven and all the Afford staff apart of this great initiative!
Afford Grill’d Competition
Recently Afford came 1st place in Grill‘d’s community program at Penrith as part of our project to raise brand awareness within the local community. The community program aims to give back $500 to three community groups every month, each getting their own jar which sits at the entrance of the restaurant. Upon ordering food each customer is handed a token and have the opportunity to choose their favourite charity they would like to donate to. The tokens are then counted at the end of each month and the winner is awarded $300 while the other two groups receive $100 each. A big congratulations to everyone who visited Grill’d in Penrith and supported Afford, we will be entering this program across many of their geographical areas where we run services so stay tuned for the next Grill’d location and month Afford will be up for consideration!

Peter’s First Holiday Earlier this year Chipping Norton client, Peter, attended his first ever holiday at Putty Beach Camp thanks to Afford Getaways. With staff support, Peter, erected his own tent, blew up his own mattress and had the opportunity to socialise with clients with other day programs. As well as participating in fun activities such as fishing, soccer and charades, what made this holiday so special for Peter was that he had never swam in the ocean before as he has been scared to. Whilst at camp Peter faced his fears and spent time at the beach and even went for a dip in the water all the way up to his knees gaining confidence and a sense of belief that with his peers at Afford Peter come overcome any obstacle. When asked how his trip was when he returned to Chipping Norton Lifestyle Centre Peter told staff “I had a really good time and I can’t wait to do it again!” Peter was also very proud of himself, as he achieved many personal milestones on his first ever trip away.
