The clients at Campbelltown Lifestyle Centre have just commenced a new program where they attend the Picton Bowling Club each Wednesday for a game of Lawn Bowls. Clients are honing their skills and they have a lot of natural talent and ability. The Picton Bowling Club have kindly supported Afford Campbelltown by offering this program for free each week. Afford Campbelltown are happy to support the local Picton businesses after the devastating floods recently. We were supposed to start this program the week that the floods occurred. We thought we had better leave it a week or two as the people of Picton have far more important things to worry about than our Lawn Bowls program. But we were surprised to receive a call from the Picton Bowling Club explaining that they were affected by the floods and if we wouldn’t mind commencing our program in 2 weeks. I couldn’t believe that amongst all of the chaos of dealing with flood and storm damage that they thought so highly enough of Afford to call us just 1 day after the flood. Afford Campbelltown look forward to continuing their Lawn Bowls Program at Picton Bowling Club and developing their skills. The clients also get an opportunity to socialise with members of the club and love to have a chat to a few of the regulars as well as the green keeper and his friendly dog.

Afford Reminder- Be A Safe Driver

Afford staff members recently participated in the Drive to Survive Training program with Ian Luff held at Eastern Creek raceway, to teach awareness and valuable lifesaving skills while on the road. All staff who participated had a great time learning different driving tips and statistics, even getting the chance to put their own driving skills to the test. It is important to remember if you drive for work in a branded vehicle to keep safety in mind at all times. Keep the following tips in mind to protect yourself, as well as others. Stay Focused & Alert Anytime you’re behind the wheel, it’s important to keep your attention focused on the road. A lapse in attention, whether to adjust the radio or eat a snack, can cause an accident and injure you and other people on the road. Obey Road Rules & Limits Make sure you keep to the speed limit and obey all road laws. If you think you could benefit from more driver training, as an Employer of Choice Afford supports regular driver safety training courses. Stay Off Your Mobile Phone It’s tempting to multi-task when you’re behind the wheel, but mobile phones can cause accidents. Remember to use a Bluetooth hands free device if you want to stay connected in the car. Remember Road Etiquette – You represent Afford when driving a company car. The way that you drive says everything about you and your company. Make a positive statement by following basic road etiquette and avoiding aggressive driving. • Keep your cool in traffic! • Be patient and courteous to other drivers. • Do not take other drivers’ actions personally. • Reduce your stress by planning your route ahead of time (bring the maps and directions), allowing plenty of travel time, and avoiding crowded roadways and busy driving times. For more information and the full range of driver awareness programs provided at Eastern Creek Raceway visit http://www.drivetosurvive.com.

‘The Crew’ Cutting Edge Film Shoot

Three of our supported employees (Mark, Dion and Brad) from the Campbelltown ADE as well as property Maintenance Supervisor (Mike Hobson) participated in the film shoot for (grant name- check w Rhiannon). Employees and staff spent the day being filmed in their natural environment, out in the Rosemeadow Community working on the department of housing properties. Supported Employees were interviewed about the Mowing Crew and what it means to them, and what improvements it has bought to their lives. The film being made by Australia Post will discuss the benefits Afford and the community have received from the (grant), which has let afford start up the mowing crew and really succeed. Being filmed by a drone camera was a fun new experience for everyone involved as well. The guys thoroughly enjoyed their day even though it was freezing cold!
