Afford Report Successful Year

Afford’s financial result for the year ended 30 June 2016 was spectacular. We delivered an operating surplus of $5.5M, and a total surplus of $7M including once-off capital grants. This was $1.5M ahead of budget. By comparison, total surplus for the previous financial year was only $200k. In delivering surpluses, we can pay off loans and invest in properties & programs. In the past year we were able to pay back loans of $10M. All properties where we provide services & factories are free of mortgages and we retrieved the title deeds this week – we have paid off the mortgage! The only properties that are currently mortgaged are our investment properties, and they continue to generate positive returns. This means we can guarantee services from these sites into the future and means job security for our employees. The only rental properties are Canley Vale & Belmore. The outlook for the current financial year is also very good, with a budgeted surplus of $5M. We are currently investing in new properties in order to grow our Client Services business in the North West and South West. In the last month we have purchased properties in Oran Park, Eschol Park and Rouse Hill for Day Program Services and another three are being considered. This will allow us to grow our footprint, increase our services and invest in new staff. Further we are launching exciting programs for our clients that are not funded by the Government including Club Afford, Carers’ Programs and the redevelopment of Cherrywood as a super site. We are also recruiting a Psychologist and Occupational Therapist to further improve the services we can provide to our clients with plans for other heath care specialists to join the team in the future. We find ourselves well positioned as we enter the NDIS operating environment!

Upon arrival, Roseanna, found both Andrew and his mum Anne in the street huddled up together. Worried for their health and safety Roseanna with the help from other staff, provided support to the family offering support services and immediate accommodation in hotels. After hearing the news CEO, Steven Herald, offered up one of our empty group homes for the family to stay in if needed. After a full assessment of the building was done, Anne and Andrew, returned to their home once it was deemed safe as it avoided direct impact from the blaze.

Customer Service Awards We would like to congratulate the following staff members who have gone above and beyond for their clients and won this month’s customer service awards. 1st Place: Roseanna Barletta - Team Leader: Roseanna has given great support over the last few months. On top of her day-today duties, she has put in extra time to assist with transition for new staff in their new role. Roseanna has been an excellent mentor and her staff believe she deserves this recognition. Roseanna shows excellent customer service skills. This is evident in her day-to-day interactions with clients, colleagues and famiy/carers. One of many nominations for the month. Equal 2nd Place: Rahul Chand - LSA (Casual): Rahul is just new to the organisation and has been appointed to work with two of Campbelltown’s clients who require 1:1 support. One of these clients has a diagnosis of Autism however also a diagnosed severe social phobia and rarely leaves his bedroom at all (only to go to the bathroom). This required 1:1 support in his own home. In a very short time Rahul has managed to encourage this young man out of his bedroom, to go for a walk in the park at the rear of his home, not once but twice now. This client’s mother said she is amazed that they have made such a fast connection and to see her son walking around in the sunshine brought a tear to her eye. This level of Customer Service is what gets Afford’s name out there amongst the carers as a service that delivers exceptional outcomes. Equal 2nd Place: Anthony Fitzgerald - Lifestyle Assistant: Anthony designed and built a fantastic BBQ area in our back yard at Campbelltown Lifestyle Centre. He spent many afternoons at work after hours to finish the job. Anthony encouraged many of our clients to participate in the building of the BBQ area which took quite a few weeks to finish. The clients seem to really enjoy the BBQ area. One of many nominations for the month.
