Last Friday marked the official opening of 3 our new group homes in Penrith. The devolution of the Cherrywood Village has been planned for many years now and for the residents who have transitioned into the new group homes, the move has proved to be a huge success, giving them a chance to get more actively involved within their local community and an opportunity to live more independently and learn more household chores such as washing clothes, cooking meals and watering their plants. Afford were privileged to have The Hon. MP, Stuart Ayres and the NSW Government Minister for Disability Services, John Ajaka present in opening the ceremony which started with a lovely tour around the new homes by our residents, a lovely speech and the unveiling of the plaque. Everyone who attended had a great time sharing laughs over a nice spread of delicious treats and drinks.

TTW Have A Blast At Berri

Recently Afford TTW visited NSW sport and recreational camp at Berri as part of their program to help clients gain confidence and self-esteem with independence and team building exercises. The camp was funded by the TTW Trivia night fundraiser, meaning our clients could attend the camp without any huge out of pocket expenses. Our clients enjoyed a wide range of activities including canoeing, archery, rock wall climbing, swimming, basketball, cricket, sitting around campfires with marshmallows and eating fantastic food. The clients all loved the activities and confidence they have gained at the camp and are excited to attend the next annual event. A big thankyou goes to all trainees and staff involved in making it something to remember for our clients and again to all those who donated items for the raffle and giveaways on the Trivia night which funded the event.

TTR Superstar, Lynette, Walks It Out For Charity

Recently TTR client, Lynette Campbell-Cowie, participated in the Bridge to Bridge walk to support and raise awareness for the Cancer Council. The challenging course is a 28km closed loop circuit that travels clockwise around Sydney Harbour, highlighting many of the magnificent views around the inner suburbs. The past ten years has seen a total of 90,000 walkers take part in the Seven Bridges Walk and over $2.7 million raised for charity. The event is a great way to see Sydney, benefit personal health, join in a great community activity and raise money for charity. Lynette courageously completed the 7 bridges and got through 22kms with the support from her TTR walking group organiser, raising some generous funds for the charity in the process. We would like to congratulate Lynette on her achievements, you truly are a TTR superstar!
