Over 10 clients began their new adventure with Afford last week and what a start it has been, participating in a wide range of fun activities including arts and crafts, bowling and cooking as well as trips to the Powerhouse Museum and the Bradbury Club. On top of celebrating the opening of the new centre, on the first day Oran Park were blessed to celebrate the birthday of client, Jareer which was greeted with excited clients and staff in attendance and of course a delicious birthday cake. We would like to congratulate all staff at Oran Park for making it such a wonderful start to the centre and we look forward to the opening of two more Lifestyle Centre’s in Rouse Hill and Eschol Park later this year.

Keeping Up With The Constructions
In the pictures above: Current development of the group homes on Empire Circuit.
In the pictures above: Current development of the group home on Warwick Street.
The remaining new group homes in Penrith are back underway for the new year and are well on track to being completed before the mid way point of the year. With majority of the outside done on all sites including Warwick street and Empire Circuit, the builders will start applying the finishing touches to the inside while completing the beautiful outside landscape which our other new group homes flawlessly show with the finishing touches from the residents. Residents have been eagerly shopping for furniture and house hold essentials, taking advantage of the new years discounts. For the residents who have transitioned into the new group homes the move from Cherrywood has proved to be a huge success, giving them a chance to get more actively involved within their local community and a opportunity to live more independently and learn more household chores such as washing clothes, cooking meals and gardening. Stay tuned for more updates on these homes as they develop over the next few months!

Abuse And Neglect Afford Says ‘No’. Afford takes Abuse and Neglect very seriously and we do everything we can to stop any cases of Abuse and Neglect from happening. With this in mind, Afford has created our very own Abuse and Neglect video starring our wonderful staff and supported employees. The video was launched to Afford staff at the Frontline Staff Conference on the 5th January. We will be launching the videos to our supported employees next week, with clients and families to follow. Search for “Afford Abuse and Neglect” on Youtube to see our Afford stars explain what Abuse and Neglect are, how to get help if you suspect something might be wrong and how to contact our Whistle-blower Protection Officer.
