Our Afford Facebook page likes have increased more than 3 x the rate of February in the last week.

Last Saturday Steve Herald, Afford staff members (Allan, Kiralee, Rosie, Enamul, Kari, Laura, Karla and Anastasia) and Marketing ran a successful branding and social media campaign - #ISpyAfford. We spent the day out on the road in the Campbelltown, Penrith and Blacktown area with a convoy of our branded vehicles, making heads turn across Western Sydney. We had an overwhelming positive response from the public, loving the Afford brand and vehicles. This is a campaign we will continue to run, targeting our current and growth service areas. A big thanks to all the staff who dedicated their time to support this campaign. Those that liked and shared our posts on Facebook - you have helped to make this a successful branding event. Our post promoting the #ISpyAfford event was shared 16 times and tripled our post reach to over 1,500 views. The most views on any post we have had!

Afford Staff were up bright and early last Sunday, ready with their walking shoes to take part in the Campbelltown Challenge walk. The Challenge walk is an annual event where participants embark on a 6km walk around Mt Annan Botanical gardens, to promote a healthy lifestyle, bringing the community together for a great cause. Everyone who attended had a great time participating in the challenge and as you can see from the photos, the team were very proud to be showcasing Afford, with their special design shirts, hats and drink bottles. It was extra special to show-off our new branded threads to the local MPs, Greg Warren MP, Dr Freelander MP and Campbelltown Mayor, George Brticevic, who all seemed very impressed with the Afford contingent. A special mention goes out to our 13 brave Staff Members and their families - Casey Hailes, Nick Hailes, Vicki Hailes, Kathy Bullock, David Bullock, Kacee McNally, Lucy Primiano, Amira Salama, Kathy Bruce, Arman Prasad, Laura Peterson, Hannah Provost and Danielle Pullen - for competing in the Challenge Walk.

Afford’s Pride And Joy

Congratulations to Roseanna Barletta and Paul Roberts who received Pride of Workmanship trophies at an awards ceremony held at the Rotary Club of Penrith Valley on 8 March 2017. The Pride of Workmanship Program enables managers to help employees achieve the goal of job satisfaction, and publicly recognise them for their efforts. Afford was pleased to nominate Rosie and Paul and we are so excited that they were recognised publicly for all the hard work that they do. Roseanna Barletta (or Rosie to her peers), is Afford’s Senior NDIS Planning Specialist whose dedication to families and people with disabilities is remarkable. Each day Rosie goes out of her way to assist everyone she crosses paths with and this goes past the scope of her role in many, many ways. Late last year Rosie heard of an apartment building fire. She recognised the address as one of the clients who attended an Afford centre. In the early hours of the morning Rosie got out of bed, leaving her young family, and went in search of the family to ensure everyone was safe. The family was found the next day, after a lot of searching, and Rosie took the family back to an Afford centre and ensured they had clothing, support and love. In January 2017 Rosie met Adrian who had experienced a spinal cord injury 38 years ago. Adrian was in need of support after being dismissed by three other service providers. Rosie arranged staffing as well as a sling, beds and mattresses to be installed at his home. Rosie’s efforts went beyond the call of duty and has helped Adrian continue to live independently. Paul Roberts is a part time support worker at the Afford Minchinbury Australian Disability Enterprise (ADE). Paul has been employed by Afford for 31 years and during this time, Paul has always been willing to work an extra day here or there when needed/requested due to high production needs. Paul is always called upon to run small teams successfully and supports other co-workers on the job with care and respect. Paul shows great leadership skills and is great at assisting his peers to get the job done and keep them motivated. Over the years, Paul has stepped up to do various jobs at Afford, being allocated lead hand in maintaining the grounds and overseeing of the cleaning of administration offices. Paul leads his team by example and always puts in 100% effort. Paul is diligent and is takes his responsibilities seriously. Paul is a great role model at Afford’s ADE and is often seen checking in on others and ensuring his peers are doing well. Paul takes on extra responsibility without hesitation and never lets the team down. Afford is truly fortunate to have both Rosie and Paul as members of the team. They are worthy recipients of these awards and we are pleased that their remarkable efforts and dedication to clients and Afford have been recognised through The Pride of Workmanship awards.

Putt Putt Time Last Monday, Ashfield Lifestyle Centre decided to have some fun in the sun at Putt Putt Golf in Ermington after many days of heavy rain. Staff transported five clients to Putt Putt where they enjoyed 18 rousing obstacle courses and lunch in the shade, with each client supported to play to their own ability and skill level. After lunch, those who were keen to continue, played the other, more difficult courses, while the clients who felt like having a break stayed in the dining area and enjoyed the cool shade. This was a wonderful activity for all that encouraged physical activity and the development of fine motor skills.

Dreams Really Do Come True!

Mélanie Ségard, 21, has always wanted to be a weather girl but always thought it wouldn’t be possible because of her disability. Yet following some help from French charity, she has since been flooded with offers from national TV channels France 2 and BFMTV. The charity for people with learning disabilities in France helped Melanie set up a Facebook campaign called Mélanie peut le faire (Mélanie can do it). So always remember that nothing is impossible the word itself says “I’m Possible”!
