Anglican Care Booragul, 2017 A new flagship building that consists of 126-bed Aged Care Facility. The project also consists of a purpose-built Day Therapy Centre, a cafe and multipurpose areas that opens up to a landscaped garden. Spatially the floor plan revolves around a common area ‘hub’ with generous balconies where the residential wings plug into . This hub becomes the ‘heart’ of the facility where all residents will socialise. There are 2 architectural language utilised in the building, one being ‘commercial’ and another ‘residential’. Common areas within the facility utilises a larger scale and volume with full height windows and contemporary materials such as aluminium cladding. The residential wings on the other hand are scaled down with smaller windows and the facade is broken up by using fins to break up the volume of the wings. The materials used on the residential wings are also more conventional. Responsible in preparing documentations from Concept Stage to Tender Documentation. Monthly client and stakeholder workshops and as the project progresses, monthly consultant workshops. Managed RFI’s during the Tendering process.
Housing Development, 2016 557 unit superlink houses for one of the biggest developer in Malaysia Lead the development of project from concept to developed design of 3 superlink types. Responsible for preparing weekly presentation that run for months as part of the design development process that leads up to Product Development Committee review. Status: Developed design
Development Layout Reassesment, 2015 Firm has been appointed to reassess planner’s layout and engineer’s proposed levels to reduce earthwork costs and increase green areas in a 891 housing unit development Lead in the reassessment of planner’s layout and succeeded in increasing the overall green area by 20% and additional 15 housing units This particular phase exemplifies the most successful reassessment by reclaiming part of the slope area, rearrangement of units for better layout as well as maximising units to face green areas
Maari Ma Health Facility, 2014 Magoffin and Deakin The project is an expansion and redevelopment to an existing health facility in outback Australia. Design is focused on staff and client circulation, segregation between different clinical facilities and providing a centralized communal outdoor space. The project constraint is to comply with Council’s regulation on ‘Heritage’ streetscape, hence the facade design is a simplification of surrounding buildings in terms of scale and repetition. The Project
The Concept Pilgrimage is a journey an individual took towards a Sacred purpose, whether physical or for psychological enlightenment. The act of domestic violence goes beyond the physical realm. It is the displacement of the victim’s essence of Self from the world. Hence the recovery involves the process of reaffirmation of one’s place within the society, the world; a pilgrimage to make oneself whole again. Relating the sequence of the ‘pilgrimage journey’ to the project, Sacred is the body and Self. This project focuses on the sequence of spaces within the architecture of Pilgrimage and how it affects human psychology. Precedents of sacred architecture which demonstrates hierachy of spaces, the path sequence from less sacred to the most sacred of the inner sanctum
The Refuge is an investigation into the social dilemmas surrounding domestic violence, particularly support for victims after domestic violence, specifically women and children. The main theme is to provide a development that is conducive to victim’s psychological healing through architecture and holistic programs. The Refuge will act as a transition home for victims who have left their abusive relationship and looking for a new start in life.

Fifth year final project 2012
Through studying various Sacred architecture, these places of pilgrimage have specific sequence of spaces that leads from the outer realm, the world, into the most sacred place within the complex. The path gradually moves from huge and light spaces and moves into smaller and more intimate space that reflects the pilgrim’s inner Self. This project aims at creating spaces which reflects the journey of emotional recovery for women and children affected by domestic violence.

Developing a transitional accommodation between refuge and exit houses for women and children recovering from domestic violence The aim is to eliminate isolation during the victim’s critical emotional healing phase. The project encourage self-sufficiency while still being within an environment that is conducive to emotional and psychological recovery.

Raw materials such as wood, exposed concrete and steel are used throughout the project. These minimalist palette of materials aims to create a simplicity and rawness within the complex. The cold and hard surfaces of exposed concrete are humanised by the warmth of wood. Precedents are taken from Glenn Murcutt’s ‘Thinking drawing/working drawing’ book.

Final presentation Final stage of the design process brings this project to a more practical outcome. The complex consists of a Women’s Centre, short and medium-term housing and a bath house. The spaces are arranged according to the concept both macro and micro level. Thresholds of privacy begins with the larger community spaces into a more intimate space like the mother’s garden. The users will have a choice to connect or disconnect with the other users. Throughout the year, this project has been on the design board numerous time and has received numerous constructive criticism until it has reached to the final stage. I believe that this project still has room for further study and could one day be ‘perfected’. The Concept The site is sandwiched between new Honeysuckle developments and the older Newcastle city where both developments are total opposites of each other. Therefore, the site acts as a mediation between the old and the new. The project respects the urban grain and scale of Newcastle City as well as being a contemporary development. The project take into account surrounding urban features and incorporated it with the planning.
