DUMB, DUMBER, DUMBEST

By: Roy Douglas Malonson

Now, I have heard some racist junk in my time and, unfortunately, it just doesn’t get any better – or easier – to listen to politicians say the damndest things against our Black people. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is blaming unvaccinated Black people for the COVID-19 surge in Texas and across the nation. His sourc-

es for this claim? An incorrect Facebook post. Patrick made the remarks recently on a Fox News segment when questioned about the latest COVID-19 surge. “The Covid is spreading particularly, most of the numbers are with the unvaccinated and the Democrats like to blame Republi-

cans on that. Well, the biggest group in most states are African Americans who have not been vaccinated.” Say what? Patrick really went there on national television, blatantly stating that Black people are spreading the virus, when the Republican party members have been the most vocal in anti-mask, anti-

vaccination rallies and political meetings. Numerous statistics and analyses disprove Patrick’s statement. Let’s look at the facts. Black people make up almost 13% of the United States population and are not the “biggest group” of unvaccinated people

Our beloved brother Craig Sebastian Adams, aka “BUD,” was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday August 11, 2021 at 5:01 a.m., at the age of 63. He succumbed with a little over a two-week battle with COVID-19 and sadly, had not been vaccinated. Craig was the healthiest one of us all, but the Delta variant overwhelmed him, and God saw fit to make him the voice for this pandemic that has

ravaged our nation for well over a year or so now. Craig was born at St. Elizabeth Hospital on November 9,1957 to Earl Felix and Mary Electa (Skipper) Adams, who preceded him in death, as well as his brothers, Louis Everett (2012), Michael Elliott (1980), Christopher Robert (2010) and Kenneth Bernard (1974), as well as our dear sister-in-law Alice

EDITORIAL Reader Feedback

This letter was sent to African-American News&Issues, forwarded from a person who took issue with one of our articles. Dear Rev. Willie Wright Jr., Bishop Johnny A. Tates, Rev. Dayle Perry, Rev. Curley Randle, Sr., Rev. Dr. Edwin A. Davis and Church Leadership

Hello, I am Rev. William Crabtree, Minister of the Gospel from Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where Rev. Otis McConico is the Senior Pastor. As a Preacher of the Gospel, I am concerned that many are not standing for Jesus Christ, as they should. One way you and your church are not standing for Christ as you should is that you are buying ad space in the periodical, African-American News & Issues. On one hand, the periodical typically gives a liberal democrat-centric political viewpoint (not a biblical viewpoint) on whatever subject it is addressing. Mixed in with that political

point of view is their idea of Afro-Centricity (again, not a biblical viewpoint.) But most importantly, they give blatantly unbiblical viewpoints with their subject matter. Case in point, African-American News & Issue, Dated July 4, 2021, Vol. 26, Issue 23. Their front page cover story entitled, “Pride” gives blatant support for unbiblical and immoral homosexuality and the homosexual lifestyle. Which, in the article, is called gay, Gay Pride, queer, gay affections and LGBTQ+. Not only does the article wholeheartedly support this unbiblical lifestyle and behavior, the author of this article is planting seeds

in the minds of the readers, that if embraced and accepted, will grow and result in the readers also supporting the Gay Pride Lifestyle. This periodical is inside of churches and it’s inside your church, since you are buying ad space in it. Also, no other churches should be displaying this periodical because of its unbiblical stance It doesn’t make sense to call yourself a Bible-Believing Church but at the same time display and support this unbiblical lifestyle. The Bible is clear, all sin is an offense to God. The Bible is also clear that the homosexual, queer, Gay Pride and LGBTQ+ lifestyle is a sinful lifestyle! (See Romans 1:18-32) Churches must not agree with, nor support this sinful lifestyle and they must not support periodicals that support the Gay Lifestyle! Plainly said, since you are advertising in a periodical that supports the Gay Homosexual Lifestyle, then You and Your Church are supporting the sinful Gay Homosexual Lifestyle.

A Revival of God

Consciousness Bobby E. Mills, PhD

A Response to a Response: Gay Pride The Afro-American News/Issues dated July 4, 2021 featured two headline stories regarding Gay Pride Month. Reverend William Crabtree, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, chose to singularly reference one headline story and not the other. In fact, he goes to the extreme of chastising the Senior Pastor of a church that regularly advertises in the Newspaper. Ironically, the editorial Reverend Crabtree did not reference was entitled: “There Is No Pride In Sin,” written by Bobby E. Mills. Which in turn, was a balanced approach to dealing with news issues? Generally speaking individuals only agree with those issues that they agree with. However, God hates sin, and “God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.” God asked US not to judge one another for ye shall be judged

also. God also has said that vengeance is mine, and I will repay says the Lord. God hates sin, and He desires that we call out sin for what it is, because sin is sin. There are no little sins or big sins. However, when you have been warned concerning sin and you continue sinning, and compound sinning God will turn you over to a reprobate mind. Therefore, homosexuality is a sin, adultery is a sin, fornication is a sin, lying is sin, and so on. Again, sin is not about human personalities. The Afro-American News is in the news reporting business. Thus, everything that is newsworthy is not necessarily reflective of the moral and spiritual value orientations of the managing owners, but only reflects the opinions of the editorial writers. The managing owners of the AfroAmerican News are not necessarily in absolute agreement with editorials or editorial writers. Hence, Voltaire said: “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” Reverend Crabtree this is what democracy and freedom of speech is all about!

GREATER HOUSTON EDITION Dumb cont’d in Texas or the nation. An analysis by the KFF (Kaiser Family Foundation) found that white people held the largest amount of unvaccinated people across the country. Another analysis by the KFF found that Black people accounted for more than 50% of positive COVID-19 cases in only two out of 35 analyzed states. In Texas, Black people only account for 15% of positive COVID-19 cases compared to 52% of Hispanic people and 32% of whites. Self-reported data from KFF stated that 65% of African American people said they received at least one dose of the vaccine compared to 70% of whites and 61% of Hispanic people. Another analysis found that across 40 states, 40% of Black people are vaccinated compared to 50% of whites. While Black and Hispanic communities are less likely to have received a vaccine, Black people’s vaccination rates are steadily increasing as white people’s rates are declining. While the effectiveness of current vaccines is declining against new COVID-19 variants, the vaccines are still very effective in great-

August 30, 2021 ly reducing hospitalization and severe symptoms. Some of our Texas GOP leaders can attest to that as a few of them have contracted the virus while vaccinated. Governor Greg Abbott tested negative for COVID-19 on Saturday, just four days after a positive diagnosis. He credits his vaccination for the “brief and mild” infection and encourages Texans to take the vaccine. “I am told that my infection was brief and mild because of the vaccination I received,” Abbott said in a video he posted on Twitter last weekend. “So, I encourage others who have not yet received the vaccination to consider getting one.” After testing positive, the Governor received Regeneron’s monoclonal antibody treatment. In the video, Gov. Abbott said he would continue to open more antibody therapy centers across the state. And while Abbott supports the vaccines, he is seem-

ingly denouncing masks as he refuses to order a mask mandate in Texas despite seeing the alarming increase in hospitalizations across the state. Abbott was also refusing to issue mask mandates in schools, even though he knew there are many school children who are too young to receive the vaccines, and are getting sick. What is his rhyme or reason? We believe not even he knows. The “anti-vax” mindset around the nation won’t back down, and even the creator of this ideology that the science is a lie, Donald Trump, can’t control his own creation. In a speech in Alabama last weekend, Trump found

AFRAMNEWS.COM 3 himself booed by his own cult for admitting that he took the vaccine and encouraging others to do the same. “I believe totally in your freedoms, I do. But you got to do what you have to do, but I recommend, take the vaccines. I did it. It’s good. Take the vaccines, but you got ... [BOOING] ... No, that’s okay. That’s all right. You got your freedoms,” he said to the crowd. “But I happened to take the vaccine. If it doesn’t work, you’ll be the first to know, OK. I’ll call up Alabama and say, ‘Hey, you know what?’ But it is working. But you do have your freedoms. You have to keep, you have to maintain that. You have to maintain that.” Trump has spent his entire presidency labeling facts as “fake news,” claiming the election was stolen, and publicly speaking against science during the pandemic.

It seems many of his impressionable followers took those messages to heart and are willing to put the health of the nation at risk, just so they can fight against this imaginary threat to their freedoms. Had our state leaders taken action at the beginning of this surge and enforced mask mandates, Texas would not be at this level of infection. Instead, our leaders are so incompetent, they would rather find scapegoats, such as the Black community, and put us in danger of violent hate crimes to cover up their inability to lead. What’s next? Wait, don’t answer that. We will just wait to see what foolishness comes out of our elected leaders’ mouths next. In the meantime, FOLLOW THE SCIENCE, GET VACCINATED and WEAR YOUR MASKS! -- AANI

Craig ‘s life of education began when he attended A.B. Anderson Elementary, until he was placed in 5th grade at St. Rose of Lima in an “Empty Seat Program,” along with six of his other siblings, with the younger ones to follow. He then attended Northwest Jr. High (aka Seton/Assumption) and went on to graduate at St. Pius X High School “Class of 76” with Honors, alongside his brother Clifford. Craig was humble, kind, knowledgeable and full of talent. As a teenager, he worked at McDonalds aka “Mickey D’s,” alongside at least one of the many siblings that followed him and brought home his paycheck to the “Bank of MESA (Mary Electa Skipper Adams), the same as the rest of us. He devoted 10 years of his life to the then “SWBT” as an installation technician and vested from there to begin his journey in life. Craig worked for the Houston Astros Youth Academy as a coach and trainer. He was an Associate Coach at Aldine Middle for 3 years. Craig is an Honorary member of the Paul Quinn College Baseball Alumni.

GREATER HOUSTON EDITION Craig worked as the Offensive Back Field Coach for St. Pius X football team and trainer in 2011. He was an avid golfer taking part in many tournaments throughout the city. Craig was also a mentor/coach with the AAU Basketball program Houston Gold between 1996-2005. Craig was instrumental in helping to send over 250 young men to college on scholarship. Craig continued to serve as a mentor to many of those young men as they developed their careers over the years. Craig also played semipro baseball with two teams, the Royals and the Athletics along with the family softball team called Momma’s Boys. He took on the world. He assisted with raising funds for the St. Monica Food Pantry Annual Golf tournament and handled all his endeavors with modesty. He even gave his last year to attend to the needs of the grounds and other maintenance needs at St. Monica Catholic Church until about two weeks before his passing. ` One of his main interests was raising money for his church, the food pantry, and other organizations, also to assist in helping children with their tuitions. For a few years he went off to Dallas to further his education. He began a company

called “MESA”(which endearingly is our mother’s initials). He started the company and began his true passion and became a “Certified Personal Trainer”, where in his early years he met and became trainer to the artist known as “Queen B” and her mother, which further led him to become a part of their security team in the era of “Destiny Child” traveling with them on tour. Craig was also a true educator in case you weren’t aware and his love for education made him an awesome teacher, tutor, and mentor. For certain there are many others out there that can tell you some stories about their time with him. Craig was a Man of God and a blessing to all those he met whether in the community, on an airplane, at a seminar, or just in passing. A True Saint in his own right. He will be truly missed by his 13 siblings, a host of nieces and nephews that truly looked up to him and cousins. Along with the community of St. Monica Catholic Church, his St. Vincent Paul Family, he will also be missed by the St Pius X High School Community and students, past and present and his Circle of Dear Friends. “Rest well Craig, you deserve it. - AANI

4-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF HURRICANE HARVEY By: Staff

Four years ago, on August 25, Hurricane Harvey landed on the shores of Texas, dumping over 52 inches of rain upon our city and region. Hurricane Harvey was a defining moment for Houston. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner says we are building forward in the right way for a stronger and more resilient city that is prepared to with-

stand the challenges of the future. To do it right takes precision. To do it right takes partnership. To do it right takes thoughtfulness. And as we navigate the challenges that our region continues to face, from hurricanes to winter storms to health crises, we have not stood still. Despite complicated and bureaucratic processes involving

extensive reviews, procurement rules, acquisition delays, and environmental regulations, the City continues to move forward with our partners and own resources. Are we safer today than we were four years ago? Yes. COMPLETED PROJECTS In four years, we have invested $780 Million in infrastructure repairs from local fund-

ing for fully completed projects: • 42 Capital Improvement Projects and an additional nine that are in construction, totaling $501 Million in total investment in drainage. • 124 Local Drainage Projects totaling over $21 Million, by the end of the Fiscal Year, an additional 40 projects will be completed. These are projects are less than $3 Million in

costs and are usually delivered at a faster pace. • 124 SWAT projects have been constructed totaling $34.7 Million; An additional 18 are in construction or in design to be completed by the end of this Fiscal Year, bringing

the total number of projects to over 142. • Six large-scale TIRZ inter-agency projects have been completed, exceeding $33 Million, and three more are in construction, adding over $76 Mil-

GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE SAYS WIFE’S DWI ARREST WAS MEDICAL MIX-UP

By: Nevaeh Richardson

DALLAS, Texas - Republican Texas gubernatorial candidate Allen West is demanding an apology from the Dallas mayor and the Chief of the Dallas Police Department for his wife’s arrest on Friday. Angela West, 61, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated with her 3-month-old grandson. The sobriety test ended with inconclusive breathalyzer results, which Chief of Dallas Police Department Eddie García said was caused by West blowing into the breathalyzer incorrectly. According to a probable cause affidavit by officer Lydia Harris, West’s eyes seemed to be bloodshot, and one of her eyes was jerky. West took too many steps in the heel-to-toe test and used her arms to balance on one leg. Allen West posted a video on Twitter saying that the night his wife was arrested, she had come from dinner at P.F. Chang’s. Witnesses and a receipt show Angela West only had water and lemonade. Todd Shapiro, a lawyer representing West, said a previous brain aneurysm behind her right eye was the cause for some of the

results in the sobriety test. “She told the officer about it and there’s no mention anywhere in the probable cause affidavit that this woman had some health issues that could affect her performance or mask themselves as signs of intoxication,” Shapiro said. The toxicology results from a blood test have yet to be released. - AANI
