On the flip side, many Republicans say Biden

isn’t doing enough to deal with what they call a “crisis” at the border.

So, who is right and what’s really going on?

To us, it looks like it is just another way to “white-wash” America, as the Haitians are just more Black people trying to live out their dreams.

White Privilege Religion Christian Right Evangelicals know this: “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and keep himself unspotted from the world.”

Thus, when individuals give to the hopeless, they demonstrate spiritually and religiously what it really means to serve others. In order to keep ourselves unspotted from the world, we need to spiritually commit ourselves to the ethical moral system of Jesus Christ; not the world’s monetary system, which in turn, is based upon money, power and sex (pleasure): PMS. True Christian faith means absolutely nothing if individuals are contaminated with the external value system of PMS. Racism is not a religion and should never be. America, know this: God is

keeping a record, and He is checking it twice, and in the end, He knows who has been faithful, naughty or nice, because great is thy faithfulness O’Lord unto US. Jesus was faithful to the will of God unto death.

Something very, very sinfully sick is occurring in American society, and penicillin is not the cure. White Privilege Vigilantism has taken root in American society.

Too many individuals are attempting to become their own law enforcement agency, and at the same time his/her own worst enemy seeking to create an autocracy for White Privilege. Russia has an all-White autocratic governmental system, and Whites are fighting Whites.

Question: what makes White Privilege oriented Americans think that an all-White autocratic system in America would not produce the same results; whereby Whites would be fighting each other for power, privilege, pleasure, and money?

Russians are fighting each other and no permanent-tan minorities are involved!

Moreover, the democratic tenets of the constitution are under

attack and, tyranny is religiously celebrated and advocated; even

by Christian Right Evangelicals. In fact, Christian Right Evangelicals have been referred to by many names: the moral majority, the Tea Party, and the party of family values. This question must be asked, because of the hypocrisy of Christian Right Evangelicals: what’s in a name? They have never lived-up to the spiritual-moral tenets of their so-called many names, because we know that: “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.” (Proverbs 22: 1).

Symbols motivate behavior and the sacred symbols of American democracy are under White Privilege Religious attack. Institutional Racism is a cultural religion. It has its mythology (white supremacy), its ideology the exploitation and dehumanization of non-whites, and its socio-economic institutional structures.

America, exclusion invariably costs more than inclusion; especially when societal conflicts ensue.

Redistricting, Outreach and Public Policy As mandated by the U.S. Constitution, America has recently completed the 2020 Census which has to be taken every 10 years. Since 1790, its purpose has been to determine representation in the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Senate. The reason being that the number of seats in the U.S. Congress is fixed at 435 and the seats in the Senate allocate two senators for each state, regardless of population.

Redistricting means that electoral districts in each state should have equal numbers, so that representation is proportional to the number of people in the state.

Clearly, such a process as mandated by the U.S. Constitution is meant to involve all the people covered by the Census count and people living in the areas being counted.

These elements then require outreach to

ensure the inclusion of all people. This legal obligation then becomes a matter of “Public Policy”, not one of selective inclusion of portions of the population. This is why the Census uses the language of “communities of inclusion” or “COI”.

This inclusion of the people carries with it “public comment” which is the opportunity for the people to comment on that which is being proposed by elements or agencies of the government that have been given “delegated authority”. Those who carry out delegated duties are limited to actions under their delegated authority.

This is because they are not elected themselves by the people who elect the legislators.

Following the logic and the California Constitution, as well as Federal Statutes, “outreach” in redefining the electoral districts at the State, County and local levels has not been inclusive of the people of California, but rather a hand-picked few purporting to be “representatives of the people”.

GREATER HOUSTON EDITION America cont’d Green created a resolution condemning the inhumane treatment of those fleeing the crises in Haiti.

He made a passionate statement while speaking to Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.

“As a full-time Freedom Fighter, I rise today Madam Speaker because Black lives still matter, and they matter wherever they happen to be,” Green said. “They matter in Haiti. I’ve been to Haiti, I’ve seen the conditions there. We need to do something about our friends in this hemisphere. And if they matter in Haiti to me, surely, they matter at the Southern Border. Changes in the power structure don’t change the circumstances.”

Attorneys and advocates say they have been denied access to thousands of migrants camped underneath the Del Rio International Bridge and have been given very little information by officials on what is happening.

Many say the Biden administration policies led Haitians to believe they would get asylum, but then they shipped many of them right back to Haiti without telling them where they were going. It’s been horrifying watching the

Haitians go through this. On Tuesday, dozens of migrants deported from the U.S. from the U.S. tried to rush back into a plane that landed in Portau-Prince. A security guard closed the plane door in time as some deportees began throwing rocks and shoes at the plane.

Homeland Security has been busing Haitians from Del Rio to El Paso, Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley along the Texas border, and Arizona.

The criteria for deciding who is flown to Haiti and who is released in the U.S. was unclear, but two U.S. officials said single adults were the priority for expulsion flights.

Of the remaining migrants in Texas, many were seen with tickets that were allegedly handed out by Border Patrol agents.

The tickets were supposedly classified with colors; yellow for groups including pregnant women, blue

September 26, 2021 for families with children, and red and green for single men and women.

“Probably those with children are going to be given a notice to appear [in immigration court], and then the others … I don’t know what they’re going to do,” said Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez.

Wade McMullen, an attorney with Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, a Washington, D.C.- based nonprofit human rights advocacy organization, traveled to Del Rio to assist other advocacy groups helping the migrants at the camp.

“Everybody in this country and around the world should be up in arms about the fact that we have an immigration system that operates as such a black box. Right now, we have no official access to understand what processes are under way, what protections are being provided for the migrants,” Mc-

Mullen said.

The White House has increased deportation flights of migrants to as many as seven a day, and are now talking to Brazil and Chile to possibly repatriate Haitians who previously resided in those countries as they scramble to contain the fallout.

“If you come to the United States illegally, you will be returned, your journey will not succeed, and you will be endangering your life and your family’s life,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said at a news conference on Monday.

Meanwhile, Mexico has stepped in to assist busing and flying Haitian migrants away from the U.S. border.

This is not the first time Mexico has lent support. It intensified patrols to stop unaccompanied Central American children from reaching

AFRAMNEWS.COM 3 the Texas border in 2014, allowed tens of thousands of asylumseekers to wait in Mexico for hearings in U.S. immigration courts in 2019 and, just last month, began deporting Central American migrants to Guatemala after the Biden administration flew them to southern Mexico.

But is that just another way to keep the Blacks out of their country, too?

Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico’s foreign relations secretary, said most of the Haitians already had refugee status in Chile or Brazil and weren’t seeking it in Mexico.

“What they are asking for is to be allowed to pass freely through Mexico to the United States,” Ebrard ex-

plained.

The Haitian migrants who are already in Mexico’s detention centers and have not requested asylum will be the first to be flown directly to Haiti once Mexico begins those flights, according to the official.

Haitians have been going through hell for decades. Many were forced to leave their Caribbean nation after a devastating 2010 earthquake, and most recently, the people of Haiti are struggling from back-to-back blows; the July 7 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse and a 7.2-magnitude earthq u a k e in midAu g u s t .

He was raised in a two-story home on a dairy farm in the then, Bammel Community near 1960/Kuykendall. As an infant Robert was baptized at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lafayette, Louisiana. Robert attended Spring Elementary in Spring, Texas. He lived in Jennings Louisiana for a few years with his great uncle Clifford Norman. During his stay he continued his education at Jennings Elementary. After returning to Houston, he completed his education at Aldine George Washington Carver High School. While attending Aldine George Washington Carver High, which was segregated at the time Robert excelled in football (Jersey number 65) playing guard. Robert who earned the nickname “hatchet man”, became the first student to become an All American in that sport. Robert received eleven scholarships offers across the nation. Robert had a wealth of passions in life that were family based; Bar-b-queuing, dancing, fishing, music, singing, walking, camping, and picnicking. Also, he loved birds (Red Cardinals) the beach, recreation parks and Casinos. Lastly, his favorite football team was the “Dallas Cowboys.”

He retired from Tex-Tube Division of Armco Inc; formerly Cyclops Corporation and an affiliate of the United Steel Workers of America for 32 years. After retiring from Tex-Tube, he completed 10 years in the Commercial/Sales Division of Auto Zone.

Robert was a loving and caring husband and father who believed in family first and setting the standard of putting his family before himself. He will be remembered and missed by the many lives he touched with kindness and generosity.

He will be most remembered for his diligence and

hard work ethics. Robert was always true to his family needs and lending a gentle hand to others in need of assistance.

He leaves to mourn his devoted wife Wilma, three loving sons, Keith, Curley, Kevin and three loving daughters, Yolanda, Malissee, Karen. Also, to cherish his memory daughter in laws Debbie Malonson (wife to Keith Malonson) and Priscilla Green-Malonson.

ern University, Isabella met the man whom would later become her husband, Eugene Edwards. Isabella transferred to and graduated from the University of Texas – Medical Branch in Galveston (“UTMB”) with a Bachelor of Science (“B.S.”) in physical therapy. Isabella was one of the first Black graduates to earn a Bachelor of Science in physical therapy from UTMB. Upon beginning her fifty-year plus journey as a physical therapist, her uncle and Godfather, Louis Dorian (co-owner of C&L Shoe Shop on Lyons Ave.

Isabella attended Carver High School in Houston, Texas, and enjoyed a number of hobbies, including her love for sewing. Her pursuit of academic excellence led to her become the first member of her family to pursue higher education. While at Texas South-

Under her care, patients learned how to walk again and often credited her with “saving” their lives. In addition to the remarkable results she helped her patients achieve, Isabella was just as well-known for her beautiful smile and infectious spirit. Isabella emanated such joy because she walked in her purpose to serve others daily.

What finally convinced Isabella to retire from her passion of physical therapy was the birth of her only grandchild, Dylan Rose.

Isabella relished in spending every waking moment with Dylan and she easily became the light of her life.

SAMUEL MCCULLOCH JR.

As we all know, Blacks have been fighting for their freedom and recognition since being brought to this country. Many, who lived right here in Texas, were on the forefront of those battles. In this week’s “Know Your History,” we salute Samuel McCulloch Jr. McCulloch was a free Negro soldier who became known as the first person wounded in the Texas Revolution.

McCulloch was born on October 11, 1810, in Alabama. His white father, Samuel McCulloch Sr., had

three daughters.

There is no mention of Samuel’s mother in any official record.

His father moved the family to Montgomery, Alabama in 1815, and they relocated to Jackson County, Texas on the Lavaca River in 1835. Five months after their arrival in the Texas territory of Mexico, the Texas Revolution broke out and “Samuel Jr.” took up the cause.

McCulloch joined the Matagorda Volunteer Company under the command of George

M. Collinsworth, and fought in the Battle of Goliad. On October 10, 1835, McCulloch attempted to storm into the officers’ barracks and in the process took a bullet to the shoulder, which made him among the first soldiers wounded in the Texas Revolution.

The shot shattered his shoulder and affected him for the rest of his life.

By April 1836, McCulloch was able to return home, although the family was forced to flee as the advancing Mexican Army drove the Texan revolutionaries north.

On July 8 of that year, McCulloch’s wound would be finally tended to by a doctor, w h o

removed the musket ball from his shoulder.

McCulloch soon found himself living in a country that had just banned all free blacks from living there. With the passing of the Texas Constitution in 1836, all people of African and Native American descent were denied citizenship.

McCulloch petitioned the Congress of the Republic of Texas for an exemption to the law. In April, he was granted the exemption, along with the land grant that he was entitled to for his service in the

Texas army.

In August 1837, he married Mary Vess, a white woman. This marriage violated the Texas ban on interracial unions.

The couple was never prosecuted, however.

They had four sons and lived most of the remainder of their lives near Van Ormy, a town a few miles south of San Antonio.

In 1840, McCulloch and his sisters were exempted from the Ashworth Act. He lived in Texas until his death on November 2, 1893. - AANI

LANDSCAPER KEEPING FAMILY LEGACY ALIVE By: Nevaeh Richardson

When you look around, the most pride in the community comes from the “beauty” in the surroundings, and whether you realize it or not, it speaks volumes of how you represent yourself. Landscapers are often taken for granted, especially Black landscapers, but one proud man has been working hard to keep his father’s legacy alive. African-American News&Issues spoke to Terrence Jelks of “Landscaping by the Jelks.”

AANI: How many years have you been in business and how did you get your start in the landscaping industry?

Jelks: The company’s been in business for 37 years and my dad started it off in… I want to say 1985. He started off pushing two lawnmowers and he built the business up. He worked hard in the business, and two years ago he passed on.

The guys he had working with us… they’ve been with us for 15 years. Now, since my dad passed, I took over the business and then I got a crew and we’re still working his legacy and keeping it going.

AANI: As a Blackowned landscaping service, how do you

stand out above the rest?

Jelks: Well, a lot of guys out here, they do landscaping, but they don’t do what we do.

We are professionals who speak to our customers and pay attention to every detail. We try to make sure we do the job right. My father worked hard to build a solid business and I am following his method. We still have the same customers and practices he left, and I added some more when I took over.

He set us up to be able to keep the business going.

His main goal was keeping his customers happy. That’s what he always told me.

AANI: What is your advice to new Blacko w n e d business

owners who are also looking to be successful and build legacies?

Jelks: You have to be dedicated in what you want to do. Sometimes you might have ups and downs, but you have to get out there.

This is a job, it’s not just a one-time deal… so I kept that in my mind and that’s what we do.

It’s like a regular job. You have to commit to yourself. If you really want to do this, as far as a Black man or anyb o d y,

you’ve got to put in work.

At the end of it all, we all need to be dedicated and support one another. That is the only way we will grow. If you know a business is Blackowned, spend your dollars there. BUY BLACK! -- AANI
