SCHOOL BOARD IGNORANCE By: Roy Douglas Malonson
First they wanted to deny us, now they want to blame us. Since the dawn of time, white folks have been trying to oppress Black folks from obtaining any advancement in this country. And as usual, they twist the narrative to fit their agenda, no matter how ignorant it could be. Case and point. A newly-elected
Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District school board member should have shut his mouth when he made the disparaging remarks about Black students and Black educators, particularly in the Houston area. Last week, the CyFair ISD board was reviewing a recentlyreleased report from the district evaluating
equity and diversity among teachers and administrators when board trustee Scott Henry made extremely and unmistakably racist allegations against Black educators, in essence, blaming them for low performance or drop-out rates among students. “Do you know what the statewide average for Black teachers is?
Ten percent. I looked it up. Houston ISD, which y’all used as a shining example, you know what their average number of percentages for Black teachers is? Thirtysix percent. I looked that up. You know what their drop-out rate is? Four percent. I don’t want to be

Overcoming Blues Hell Hounds Fighting for the people is a BLUES job. Martin and Coretta were pursued by “blues hellhounds” nipping at their heels. On the night of their wedding, they had to spend the night at a Black-owned mortuary because of segregation in public accommodations. The Bill Claire Mortuary on Sophomore Street in the re-emerging Silk Stocking of Third Ward H-Town showcases the wedding dress and a facsimile of the honeymoon room. Fighting for the people is a BLUES job. John Bell Williams in the book, “The King That God Didn’t Save,” explains that the sinister FBI commissioner J. Edgar Hoover targeted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. when he received the NOBEL prize in Sweden. Hoover planted a scantilyclothed Anglo honey
in his descending elevator and then this temptress made a crooked allegation to the front desk regarding Dr. King. Fortunately, the Nobel committed knew of Hoover’s twisted game plan. Fighting for the people is a BLUES job. When Dr. King went into Riverside Methodist Church in New York to make the case that the Vietnam War was immoral and illegal, many of the clergy, Black and white, jumped ship on the basis that foreign policy was not the business of the American civil rights community although their constituencies were receiving their sons in body bags. Never mind that B-52 bombers were dropping 500-pound bombs and lacing children with napalm. Dr. King gave the quintessential NOT IN MY NAME antiwar BLUES paean. Dr. King strode into H-Town and faced the BOURGEOIS BLUES. Key Black ministers decided to boycott Dr. King and dissuade their members from attending his speech at the Sam Houston Coliseum. Skipper Lee failed to get the memo and

took his mountain of soul to a near empty coliseum. Songbird Aretha Franklin blew the Blues away with a ‘I wish I knew how it felt to be free’ Precious Lord. Dr. King was a BLUES man. He knew the BLUES walk and march. For a change to come, persecution had to be your 24-hour companion. His master has pronounced the BLUES mission when he said, “Foxes have holes, but the son of man has nowhere to lay his head.” He and Coretta could have been the guests of honor with heads of states and rulers, but he preferred to hang out with garbage collectors in Memphis that ate kidney stew with R C Cola while the titans of government and industry ate caviar with champagne. This blues man and woman planted a tree to provide shade for future generations. Martin and Coretta helped to teach us how to live and leave a BLUES LEGACY.

A Revival of God

God’s System: World’s System God’s system is established upon the universal dimension in humanity. The world’s system is based upon the principle of cultural tribalism. This is why individuals who operate solely based upon God’s system can overcome evil with good, because: “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” Individuals, who operate solely based upon the world’s system of greed, invariably believe in the principle of pay back or tit for tat. Question: can America live in the light of God and by the tenets of the Preamble and the U. S. constitution? The answer is obviously an absolute NO, because too many generations of White Privilege oriented individuals have a desire to exclude some Americans based upon skin-color.
Ask Native American Indians. Can America move forward in the light of democracy rather than autocracy? Unfortunately, America is experiencing an internal conflict based upon the old south versus the new south. This is why Southern Democrats were able to hi-jack the GOP, and Former President Trump was able to hi-jack the GOP for TRUMPISM, and exposed the immoral non-intellectual corrupt character of the Grand Ole Party. Shamefully, some White Democrats have been straddling the fence concerning right and wrong: case in point Senators Manchin and Sinema. No doubt about it, it is come to JESUS TIME in America, because the very soul of the nation is at stake. White children have been receiving too many mixed-messages from their family and church environments concerning good and evil. Consequently, mass confusion and evil is running rampant in American society.

four percent,” Henry said. “I don’t want to be HISD. I want to be a shining example, I want to be the district standard. I want to be the premium place where people go to be.” And like most people with “privilege,” he said these words bold, outright and in a roomful of attendees, knowing the entire board session was being recorded for record. After that recording was released to the public via Youtube, the backlash was severe and swift. Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo sounded off immediately, calling for Henry to resign. “As a product of Cy-Fair ISD, I’m appalled by Board Member Scott Henry’s insinuation that more Black teachers lead to more dropouts,” Hidalgo posted on Twitter. “Divisiveness and racism are what’s hurting our students. Not diversity. Resign.” Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner echoed her sentiments. “I was deeply saddened and offended to hear the comments made by @CyFairISD School District Board Member Scott Henry. His comments are unac-
ceptable, and I recommend that he resign immediately,” Turner tweeted. “Suggesting that having more Black teachers in a school district can create an increase in the dropout rate or a decline in classroom achievement is despicable. The rich diversity that resides in our city and region unites us more than ever. We should not tolerate those who seek to divide, but rather work with everyone to ensure equal opportunities of educational access for all.” With such a hateful statement, NAACP Houston held a press conference, calling for immediate

action to be taken against Henry. “The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School Board must vote to condemn his views. Voters and parents should unite to call for his resignation,” NAACP Houston President Dr. James Dixon said. the negative claims, and he was trying to prove they were wrong. He also attempted to pull the sympathy card saying his family had become the target of threats. “Any suggestion that I said more Black teachers leads to worse student outcomes is a lie, and those spreading it should be ashamed of themselves,” Henry said. Nikki Cowart, president of the Cy-Fair American Federation of Teachers, said there was no mixup and his words were out of line. “Scott Henry’s statements at Monday’s School Board meeting are ignorant and appalling, and he should resign immediately. Henry falsely equated lower student performance with Black teachers—something unfounded and vile, but not unexpected since he ran his campaign for trustee on the notion that we shouldn’t ever be talking about racism in schools. And yet, he’s happy to exemplify racist opinions from the dais of a school board meeting,” Cowart said in a released statement.
